On mech + Aspire Atlantis - Ohms Law

Noob question here -

Currently have been vaping for roughly a month..
Been a pleasure so far, however I realized recently that I sort of jumped into things without much knowledge about the set up I am running (albeit my first set-up).
So I am trying to wrap my head around wether or not my current set up is safe and would like some insight on this. I love inhaling formaldehyde just as much as the next guy but I've decided to limit my intake from nil to none if possible.
I purchased a caravela clone (H-Cigar) only because I found the mod to be handsome and clean looking.
Next I purchased a mutation v4 and after getting somewhat tired of dripping while driving purchased an aspire atlantis tank.
I like the tank a lot but I (and my girlfriend) have noticed it gets a tad bit hot, while nothing alarming yet - I'd rather play it safe.
From what I know the samsung 18650 I'm running is rated to 3.7v and the coil in the atlantis is .5
Would this be producing a dangerous wattage?
Am I risking a battery short/vent?
Would there be a safer way to run this combo?
and now the biggest noob question of them all - is this even a hybrid? I do connect it via a threaded piece but it has a rubberized part of the threaded knub at the bottom.
I'm not big on box mods.. Is this the only way to a safe vape?

No. At full charge, your 18650 is 4.2V. Depending on the resistance there is a degree of "voltage sag", but that's more a function of battery design and quality.

Am I risking a battery short/vent?
No. Your current discharge is 8.4 amps. Your wattage use is 35. Depending on the (typical) Samsung you're using, they are rated at 15 to 20 amps continuous, and independently test to 20 amps with a caution for heat.
Even if you had a Samsung 30Q, rated at 15A, you still have a safety margin of 6.6 amps... and that's at the rated continuous discharge - you've not even tapped into the "pulse" (momentary use - a higher drain at limited time values) capabilities.
With your 20A battery, 0.5Ω isn't even taxing your battery at one half it's rating. This is not to say you can't do it... but you'd have to cut your resistance to less than half to do so.

Your additional questions are variations of the same thing. Before regulated mods... there were mechs. Mechs are nothing more than battery holders/switches. They have differing performance because some have better designs and quality... so conductance (voltage drop) varies.

Running a mech requires you to have a good understanding of how Ohm's law effects your build.

Some things to consider - if learning more is of interest to you...

The calculated wattage doesn't care about your wire gauge or coils in parallel count... just the net resistance and battery voltage.
If your build is not "optimized" for the available Ohm's law fixed rate of discharge, the atomizers performance can suffer. Issues like heat flux, heat capacity and coil leg power loss can vary greatly.

Heat flux is the coil(s) radiant heat, expressed in milliwatts per millimeter of coil surface area... squared. For our purposes... it's simply how warm you perceive your vape to be.
Heat capacity is how long it takes your coil to reach operating temperatures - AKA "time-to-temp".
Coil leg power is loss is just what is sound like... power wasted to the individual coil legs.

Heat flux, heat capacity and coil leg power loss do care about the wire gauge (AKA wire surface area & mass), coils in parallel count and net resistance, and is directly affected by them, both together and independently.

You dont really have anything to worry about with the tank. It should be safe to run even if it gets a lil hot although I'd check ur batts although if ur chain vaping they will get hot. For your mutation x tho, id recommend getting an ohm reader. State O' Flux has posted some good links u should check out for ohms law to make sure ur not gonna blow ur face off.
