In search of clouds

I started out with an MVP, now I have a cloupor T8 and I love it don't get me wrong but I want more. I want to be more involved with my mod lol so I'm looking for a mechanical mod, preferably not too exspensive (50-125).

A copper Rig clone would be recommended.

Lots of good mods available in that price range, however I'd stay away from hybrid top caps such as the smple or rig. I personally love my infected mod.

Why? If the positive pin on the atty protrudes there's no problem and voltage drop is less when the atty pin directly contacts the battery. I love my SMPL and would recommend one to anybody that has protruding positive pin atty's.

The op is new to mechs, I just don't think hybrids are good option for new mech users.

I actually think a SMPL is a perfect beginner mech for some people. Make sure the battery wrapper is intact, make sure the pin protrudes, install the atty before the battery and switch and you're good. Less parts, less adjusting, less voltage drop. Elegantly simplistic in form and function. If someone can't visually check the wrapper and pin to ensure safe operation, maybe they should avoid mechs and rebuildable's all together. If they know they're going to use atty's with flush pins, then get something else of course. But automatically telling new mech users to avoid all mods that use hybrid connections isn't advice I agree with. Depending on the topper, something like a smpl could be a perfect first mech. Just my opinion.

I have two SMPLs and I love them. However, from a safety standpoint, I'd recommend a Stingray X. Since it comes with both a regular top cap and a hybrid connector, it comes with more beginner and advanced options. The SXK/ Infinite version has low voltage drop as well

My buddy has a stingray x. It's real nice, but I hate having to screw with the locking ring before setting it down or pocketing it. I've come to prefer a recessed button.

I bought my 26650 sting ray x on sale in the middle of the night for 9.00 & 1.99 S&H. It's a work of art. Hits like a Mule. 26650 battery, IMR Sony will stand with any VVWW Mod. I blow fog Banks with about all my Atomizers.

I hear you as far as convenience, but the magnets in mine are strong enough that I can at least set it down on the table without it firing without locking it. I'd never pocket it that way, though.

I have a Kanger Tech Mega 26650. 5.88 oz. Sting Ray don't even care about the weight. It's the second heaviest Atomizer I own. SvoeMesto All stainless weighs in @ 6.33 oz. Juice weight is nominal. Put it on top of the Sting Ray and you have a weapon. They both hit like a train.

SMPL are a great hybrid mech to start on. Why? Because they're simple! Nothing to fuss around with. As always, be absolutely sure the positive pin on your atty protrudes nicely from the threads, or you'll cause a hard short if it doesn't. You don't want that. ;-)

I've told my buddy he should get stronger magnets so it doesn't fire when he sets it down, but he won't listen. He did get the three pack of insulated hybrid top caps from fasttech. Comes with brass, stainless and copper caps for a couple bucks. Anyway, the copper internal sleeve with a stainless external sleeve is a really cool design. Looks great, hits hard and no stinky hands. The fact that it comes with the two top cap options and the ability to run different battery sizes does make it a really versatile piece. I imagine it'll be a model that continues to sell for some time. The SMPL is definitely my favorite though. The simple design, clean looks and the feel of using it are all just my speed. Being able to get them in brass, copper, stainless or colored is really nice too. The brass and copper versions look like they would be perfect candidates for doing a forced patina job. Ok, ramble over. What were we talking about? :D

I have two SMPLs myself so I know what you mean. Minimalistic design, classic good looks, and easy to use. I loooooove the button on them!
