Vape tales; Those people who don't really know about vaping.

Hi fellow vapers,

So since I have been vaping on the regular, I have gotten some pretty crazy looks. I guess people don't know that much about vaping in general. Some seem to even think I am doing drugs or something else terrible. I don't obnoxiously blow the biggest cloud i can or anything towards others. If its open air and it wont bother anyones sense of smell or fear of something 'smoky' i will blow a massive cloud though. Anyway, the other day a dad of one of my son's classmates comes up to me smoking, and telling me how terrible those ecigs are and how they are way more unsafe. I listened to him go on about it for too long, but just sat and listened. After he finished I just said yeah, well, there are like 5 ingredients in my ejuice and 1000 in your cigarette. My ingredients are listed, yours only has warnings that they will kill you, and list the nicotine/tar per pack. I guess all the misinformation out there is making people see this as just another filthy habit, but if you are like me vaping is a lifesaver. Anyway, i guess I am kind of just venting about peoples giving me the dirty eye when i vape. Anyway what is your story.

I get crazy looks too when I vape. At times I don't know if it's my purple hair, covered in tattoos or my Sig 150w and subtank in my hand. But I usually give the stink eye right back.

I don't get as much of this as I used to when I started. You see lots of people vaping on rta's and boxes around here. There's a vape shop practically every two miles down US-1, so it's fairly normalized. Most people don't bat an eye, though I get confused looks from older people occasionally. Even they tend to be cool about it though. "Everybody has their thing." is the general attitude I'm seeing more of around here these days.

I get curiosity more often than not. I occasionally overhear people walking past me commenting on the smell, mostly trying to guess what it is... ..."Jawbreakers!" "Naw, I think it smells more like blue raspberry."

I do know an older dude who makes it a point to tell me that it's gonna kill me every time he's drunk, always making a fuss about the size of my clouds. He's in his 50's, hacks like he has COPD, and chain smokes. I think by the time he starts ranting about vaping he's just too drunk to hear what I'm saying and just wants to take the piss. He's got problems with running his mouth when he drinks. He has no understanding of it and really just no desire to learn a thing about it.

I also have a buddy who's a trucker and just has no grasp of it. I think where he's going, he just doesn't get any exposure - he doesn't realize there's a huge sub-culture dedicated to this stuff, full of people who haven't smoked in years. He doesn't believe it works for people at all because his knowledge of vaping only goes as far as non-refillable cigalikes. I want to send him a sub-ohm tank setup, but he's not even the slightest bit interested. He swears he'd rather just smoke.

I want a dedicated vape cafe to open up. Hopefully someone will do that. I don't care if people smoke outside, but a well ventilated vape cafe would be heavenly to me.

With so many indoor bans popping up, those are far and few between lately, around here the only place to gather and vape and talk vape seems are the couple of local vapel gear shops, soon the vaping allowed in those will get nick'd (pun intended)

Same here, we usually stick to a certain shop because of the vibe or the employees are cool and helpful, but mostly because the customers have a place to chill and talk vape or about anything really, but its a good ice breaker

I have natural colored hair, no tattoos, and wear "normal" clothes (however such a thing is defined, I guess). Im typically with my wife and daughter and get very few weird looks from the oldsters and tech illiterates I encounter. They glance, but typically dont stare. There are alot of older folks in my area.

People stare at something when its truly out of the ordinary and my sig150 and kennedy's clouds are typically not enough to merit a full on stare.
So what im saying is (in the nicest, least offensive way possible, I hope), its probably not the sig 150 and subtank.

Probably the best way to do it. I am glad there is a shop 5 min away, but it is very limited and they jack up prices. Not my ideal spot, but someone is opening a nicer shop even closer to my place can't wait to sample some new juice.

I've had talks with people, the exact same as many of you have. I usually just tell them they can believe what they want and keep on driving or walking.

My best experience though was when I was crossing the border from Canada into Montana, I was asked if my vape counted as a tobacco product in Montana, the guy just smiled said "No, your good" and pulled out his own vape to show me because there wasn't anyone else in line. On the way back into Canada the next day I was told that it was illegal for me to bring my vape back into BC, but he'd let me off this one time. I ended up talking with him and explaining there wasn't any tobacco product in the Vape, he apologized and let me on my way.

A lot of the bad experiences are flat out ignorance or just misinformation.

Non smokers think I'm smoking and smokers think I am doing something illegal. I have found the most receptive people to be people who want to quit themselves or help other get off the tobacco. I've also yet to hear a negative comment from a health care professional.

I agree. Most smokers who have ever wanted to quit, have an instant interest in vaping. Whats sad is, when Ive explained it to many of them, its too complex and since they dont want to learn anything, they dont even try. Most tend to think that vapor devices are just like cigarettes and it works like cigarettes (anytime except wet).
Nothing is farther from the truth. Vapor devices are finicky sometimes and require alot of patience. Comparing an electronic device to a pack of analogs is like comparing a remote control car to a matchbox car. The outcome looks the same, but the internal functions are vastly different.

Isn't also great that when you bump into a fellow vaper in public you half the time make a new friend. I have found vapers to be my favorite people lately. I guess its a common struggle we go through putting down the analogs. I never felt like part of a club smoking thats for sure.
