Lemme put this out there first, this is not about getting dry mouth from vaping, this is about vaping and getting dry mouth later.

Well, I swim, dive actually, under water, under boats mostly, up to hours per boat, many a boat a day, usually 6 days a week. I scrape barnacles off hulls and running gear, change zincs, pull props, etc.

As many may not know, diving in salt water dehydrates you fast. Dry, micron-polished, filtered compressed air doesn't help keep the mouth wet either. I know some divers use a hard candy between the gum and cheek to stave off dry mouth during long dives, but I don't feel comfortable mixing choking and drowning hazards in one go..

So having dry mouth seems to conflict with the flavors I have and vape with. Don't get me wrong, the flavors I'm listing are flavors I like to vape, but when I vape Morning or Lunch and get back in the water, when dry mouth sets in, things get strange..

King's Crest - Duchess; left a nasty taste in my mouth, like I chewed on a condom.

Cuttwood - Unicorn's Milk; kids bubblegum toothpaste (seriously) and licking the roof of your mouth makes it taste like vanilla extract (even the hint of alcohol)

Suicide Bunny - Mother's Milk; goodys headache powder, chemical/medicinal taste

LJ's E-Smokes (Signature Flavor) - Pillow Fight; ever chew on a pencil eraser?

This is all I have carried with flavor wise out of the house, I do have some other LJ's E-Smokes flavors like Cotton Candy and Cabana, but I prefer these flavors late night before bed.

I don't know if anyone on this forum dives or not, or maybe someone who also deals with excessive dry mouth conditions and noticed some flavors leave weird tastes in your mouth.

I would love to hear a good response on this one. Fluid restrictions are the norm on a busy unit. Two slugs of cool/warm water. One to swish with and one to swallow. In the middle of a shit storm, there is no raising your hand and asking for a potty break.

Note: if any of my coworkers are reading this, I have no first hand knowledge of the taste of a chewed condom. If I ever said I did, I was lying.

If that potty break is a #2, yeah your outta luck,. But the advantages of a wetsuit and long hours in the water means you can pee and it freely flows out of the suit. Gotta drink water, constantly, to pee, constantly. Some may find it weird or disturbing, but it's what divers do.

I did just read on a dive forum though, about drinking not water, but something like pedialyte/gatorade; something to do with salts, elctrolytes, and the body retaining liquid.

Never literally chewed on a condom, but I have opened a few packs with my teeth.. and blah:p that taste.

Im gonna give it a try. The drinks of course, not chewing ...

Hahaha, You are in luck.....Here is my super SECRET trick that has saved me and all the divers on the documentary I filmed a few years ago.....been using it forever.

Caprise suns in your dive pocket, can be taken to any depth, poked and passed about and then folded up n put away. If you are spearfishing the container works as a fish flasher.

Ha! I've actually heard of that one. In a "Diver Dry Throat" thread somewhere. Though I now am thinking about a Camel Pak since you said that. Just wear it under the suit. (I don't use a BC for work, I use a "hooka rig" up on dock with 100ft+ hoses)

Though pleasure diving.. Wonder if I can fashion another nylon pouch to my dive belt.. When I pleasure dive, I carry a "Batman Utility Belt". lol

Thats a good chance. Nice avatar btw. Im halfway up Florida, and one boat I do, next to the swamps, is really brackish, and we have LIONFISH (plural) hanging on the wing keel and prop. I need a new spring sling and stunner tips. Mother f'n invasive species is acclimating to fresher, muddier waters.

Amazingly ballzy little guys, At first I thought the one was a young grouper, till it frayed out it's fins.

You can thank the people over at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas for our lion fish problem...

I'd think some locals may be at fault too. The Chinese StarGazer is like a Pacman frog of the sea, and doesn't really compete with anything.
If I go to the Bahamas, I go to Andros.
Andros is better, always will be. Just don't swim in a freshhole past the sulphur line, it's really thick, thick water.

Ever get tired of people asking if your afraid of sharks? I'm more worried about infections and swollen lymph nodes. lol

It an open ended flow through system with a Lion Fish exhibit on the end...while they were breeding. It was almost like they wanted it happen

Yeah, that's negligence. As much as the Bahamian Gov't charges people for importing stuff, figured they would charge an amount for each fish caught off shore in their waters. Will not blindly stick my hand in a hole looking for slippers no more.

More govt intervention is never my first choice. They barely know whats up or down, let alone try and have em tax fish in the sea....the system is not in place to protect or save anything. once people realize that, then they will understand why things happen the way they do.

I wasn't referring to a tax, more like a fine to Atlantis, they could afford a few (more like alot) fines. As an encouragement system for them (or other businesses) not to make mistakes like that again.
100$ usd fine to Atlantis per lion fish? 10$ usd reward to the Bahamian that slayed the lion? Sounds win/win

I bet, like a mix of Organized Crime.

Yeah, us humans are good at messing things up. I just saw the TED video on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch the other night.

Sad.. sad.. soo sad..

So on my way to the shop, where we pump tanks and store our gear, I hit the gas station and Viola! Caprisun: Strawberry Kiwi, single pouch $0.89.

I decided that for first dive (8:40am ish), I'd chug a Gatorade Cucumber flavor, and see if that helps retain water. It did!
Till about 11ish, a few boats later. The dry mouth started in. Cuttwoods Monster Melons left a taste as if I had been sucking on pennies, or some other currency coinage. Blah, not so good. Bust out the pack of Caprisun! I had my arm down inside a BowThruster with a little U-Curve aluminum bar to clean behind the prop blade in the tunnel. Got half the pack down and I can tell this would work. If I was pleasure diving...
Something wedged on the far right corner of my mouth next to the straw.
I should've used two hands to drink.
Couldn't drink the last 1/3 of it because I got a mouth full of bugs. Or Krill-Shrimp. Whatever those damn mud condo building bugs are called.

Pix at lunch (2pm-ish) of them on the leg of my suit, one with a quarter the other with my vape. For size ratio. The second photo, the critters appear the same close up but might actually be two different creatures.

Thanks again for the Caprisun tip kwTony. It def helped till nature intervened. I'm gonna try the camelpak with the straw cap next.

I get dry mouth from the meds Im prescribed but I have noticed I needed to up my water intake to combat dry mouth. Theres another part though, does anyone else experience a weird taste/smell towards the back of your palette? Even after mouthwash and brushing and swishing on the very back of my palette I feel a thick "afterfilm" from some flavors and its difficult to get it sorted. Its not incredibly noticeable but when trying new flavors it can be irritating when you notice it,

Yes, that is very close to what I am referring to, I notice it most on the exhale of normal breathing through the mouth.

I think you are experiencing what Im I am, After you brush and washout your mouth and smells clean when smelling your own breath unless you breathe out very slowly then it becomes more noticeable Also tightening up your throat can lead to tasting the unpleasant smell, which is why Ive pulled away from flavors like coffees/darker vapes as these seem to create it. Also when I notice it I try to clear my throat and sniffle my nose and its apparent that there is a filmy residue back there, the only way I can think of to clean that area is to fish some dental floss and slide it side to side over the surface...its not a thing that I feel comfortable doing but there isnt any way I can easily think to clean that area....snort mouthwash doesnt sound fun or pleasant to rid it either...

I can only imagine the reaction on someones face doing that, kinda like JackAss's Steve-o doing the line of Wasabi.

Currently brainstorming a pinch-valve camlepak hookup INSIDE my regulators mouth piece.. lol.. I have many a spare dive part to mess with, all I own is pre-owned, craigslist or garage sale, I never by new work gear for this job :p

Could rig something up like a nitrous to air-intake kit...Have a aerosol/compressed mouth freshener/flavouring delivered into your air intake line with a twist of a valve ;)

I dunno about breathing in cold spray mouth wash, lol. That might do it but might also get you hobo-drunk. I was thinking of a pedialyte/h20 mix in a camelpak for good ol' rehydration.

Tho they do make mouthwash in those little squeeze bottle ones for travel..... you got me thinking on a different level. Maybe I'll throw some diluted mouthwash in an ol' (RINSED) 10ml dropper bottle siliconed with a pieces of fish tank hose? But how to replace the air in the bottle?..

That might work for freshening the mouth. But never forget the important part of staying hydrated ;)

Saline Nasal Spray. The guys doin' the diving may not need this, but I'm tellin' you, it helps. Helps moisten and kinda clean out the passages. Or get yourself a Neti Pot. Those are GREAT.

Today I did a Caprisun Fruit Punch (It later gave me some bad heartburn, lol) But it did work. You know that hand motion you do when something stinks? I was fanning the water in front of my face to keep the bugs away with one hand, drinking in the other. It worked. :)

I think I still have a bottle of Arm n Hammer Saline Nasal around here from when I was sick in Feb. It WILL clean out the back of your nose and throat like no tomorrow, and it doesn't irritate or give you that weird head feeling most others seem to. Would be worth a try on dry land.
