The Good Old Times

I remember once, I must have been around 8 or 9 years old, my mom had bought me some new summer play clothes (I was the oldest kid, so I got all the new clothes and everyone else got my hand-me-downs). One day, I decided to go out and play in orange shorts and a bright yellow shirt. My mom stopped me at the door and told me to go change, but I argued that I had just put these on and they were CLEAN. She said she didn't care if they were clean or dirty, I looked like a blessed EASTER EGG, and I should go change either my shirt or my shorts NOW. I'll never forget that. An Easter egg... Now when I see clashing colors like that, excluding everything from the 60s (and that's when this incident happened), I think the same thing. That person looks like an Easter egg! My mother just had no sense of style or color! LOL!

Yellow with orange doesn't sound bad to me. Very compatible.

A thing I remember, when I was about 6 or 7, is going outside without a top on. It was summer, it was hot, we spent part of almost every summer day playing with the hose or sprinkler, unless we went to a pool in the neighborhood. My little brothers went outside without shirts or t-shirts, so why couldn't I? You can imagine, I got in trouble, and didn't get to play in the sprinkler that day.

Ours is still up there. It doesn't work anymore since they changed the broadcasting signals so the birds use it to sit and crap all over the roof. ;)

Who remembers the Name of the TV show??????

Kids Say the Darnedest Things

Somehow, I thought it tasted better than Bazooka. :)

My mom had that exact bathrobe! I guess every mom in the country had one at one time or another, right?

And nothing to do with anything, but the heat index up here in the "Frozen North" today was 111 degrees. The heat index in the house, right now, is 103 degrees. I am officially wishing winter would get here. And yes, I said that out loud. ;)

I loved the Little Golden Books! We had such a collection of cool books when I was a kid. The Golden Books, a children's encyclopedia set (I don't recall the name of it) and several hardback large format versions of classic literature, my favorite being Call of the Wild. :) All of it was lost in a nasty divorce from my mom's second husband when she had to run away with only what she could fit in her station wagon. I heard later that the second husband burned all her things, including, presumably, all those classic books. :(

My dad had about a gazillion National Geographic magazines I used to love going through as a kid, too. All of those were lost when there was a flood and the storage unit he had them stored in ended up underwater. So sad.

Up hill both ways... 🤣

The school I went to in 4th grade was up hill both ways. My house was on a hill and the school was on the next hill. So down then up and the same coming home.

I have the same problem when I go out to milk the cow in the mornings. It's downhill from the house to halfway to the barn, then it's uphill the rest of the way. So yeah, hauling all that crap uphill, both ways, in all kinds of weather... but as with school, what other choice would there be? :) At least I have a couple gallons of fresh milk every morning. I can't complain too much. ;)
