Need some opinions on a TC mod

Hello everyone!

Well, I'm in the market for a new mod. Currently I have an Smok Xpro M80 Plus and it works like a champ in wattage mode. I have not messed around with its TC capabilities but its not recommended from what I've heard. Plus, I don't have any TC supplies yet to really deal with that feature.

Anyway, TC is something I'm looking to start doing really soon and obviously I need a new mod. Here are my choices that I've narrowed it down to:

Smok XCube II
IPV4S
Sigeli 150w TC

All of these are available locally but I'm just not sure which one I should buy. I wanted to hear from the community here as you guys are always extremely helpful.

This will be my first "battery" mod meaning, I'll have to buy some batteries and a charger for it but I'm good with that. I'm not sure where I'm really leaning either; so here are my thoughts initially:

Xcube II - Firing bar is cool, LED is cool but not needed. I like the app to help control it. I don't like its size but I can get over that. Does everything I want it to do.

IPV4S - Just saw this today at a local shop! Price is right, looks cool, nice size, but my Atty3 might look weird on it lol. Does everything I want it to do.

Sigeli 150W TC - A little pricey but hey, its a Sigeli. Does everything I want it to do. I'd end up paying for the brand name and the quality associated with it.

So I guess I couldn't go wrong either way, but I as I said, curious what everyones opinion is on this.

Looking forward to the replies!

I'd go ip4s or even if you can find a ipv d2 locally that's a good choice as well. The sigelei is to pricy and doesn't have titanium mode. Plus the S model fixed all the pervious bugs the ipv4 had.

I have both X Cube II and IPV4. They both temp control flawlessly. Aesthetically, I like the X Cube II but the IPV4 is ergonomically more comfortable to hold. You can't go wrong with either one.

I was looking at the ipv4s or the m80.

I've heard the M80's temp control is buggy even post update. Smok fixed it with the Xcube 2; but not having any temp control wire doesn't give me the chance to see if its true. In wattage mode, the device works like a champ! I think I'm going to lean towards the the IPV4S simply because the price point is right for me.

Thanks for the replies guys! I have made my decision and I'm going to go with the IPV4S. However, I still have to pick up all the crap for it (batteries and a charger specifically). I'll be getting the IPV4S on Labor Day weekend so should be a good time! I'll be picking up the required batteries and charger first so I have it them when I grab the mod.

I have been running the IPV4 with the IPV4s firmware as my main device for the past 3 weeks. I haven't used the TC control yet, however this mod is a beast! Great battery life (about three days compared to the Sig 50W which I get a bit over a day with typically), fits in the hand very nicely, and has a nice solid feel. Running 30W on a .5 coil in a Subtank Mini.

I think that you will be very happy with this mod!!

I picked it up today lol. Got 25% off my purchase. Batteries are charging now so I'll mess with it later. Now I need to get some ni200 wire.

25% off? Nice! What are you going to be building on for TC?

I have some Ni wire but have yet to build with it. I also have Ni coils for my Subanks but haven't tried those yet either. Hopefully I can try them this weekend.

Probably just ni wire to begin with. Trying to find a place that has it locally but I think I'm gonna have to hit amazon for it.

I should have said that better....lol. I should have asked - what RDA or RTA deck are you going to building on?

I'm going to be building on my Wotofo Atty3 to begin with, and I also have a Mutation X V4 I'll try as well. As far as an RTA goes..... well that remains to be seen. I have an Orchid V7 which I loved for a week, then bought an RDA and never looked at tanks again lol. However, I do need a tank for long drives, so I might roll with the Smok TFV4 (dual coil RBA piece).

Nice selection there! I have a Plume Veil clone for an RDA but I will be building on the Subtank RTA bases as well as some dedicated RTAs (Lemos, Billow, etc). Since my drive time to get to a job site can be anywhere from 20 minutes to 5 hours one way, I need to stick with tanks for now.

I want to try the Wotofo that you have.....but again.....long drives.....

Yeah I know what you mean on the long drives. I'm shoved into an office now for the most part so I can bring my dripper to work with me and be OK. However, when I do have to drive around, I definitely need a tank lol (Friends, don't let friends drip and drive). I currently use an Orchid V7 for such situations which is a dedicated RTA, but I also have a Kanger SubTank Mini. I just might pick up the TFV4 this Friday as I have a trip coming up and I'll probably need to use a tank for the drive up (that thing has some incredible airflow so it'll feel like my dripper).

And when you get a chance... grab a Wotofo Atty3, its a really nice RDA =)

Ok,

So I've spent some time last night and this morning with my IPV4S. This is my first mod that requires removable batteries. Everything I've had to this point has had an internal battery (MVP 2.0, MVP 3.0, and Xpro M80 Plus) so, there was a minor investment in the batteries and chargers. After the smoke cleared I ended up with the mod, an Nitecore D2 charger and a pair of Samsung 25R (I think thats what they're called)batteries.

Compared to my regulated box mods of the past, this thing takes the cake and I'm not regretting the decision to go IPV4S over the Sigelei 150w TC. While I would absolutely LOVE a Sigelei, the thing was just out of my price range. I love the IPV4S's form factor as it fits snugly in my hand. I wish the 510 was placed on the same side as the buttons but thats no big deal. Doing that would make the mod feel more like my M80 but thats really just a nit pick. I wanted a magnetic battery door, but the ball bearing lock for the cover feels rock solid. The overall construction feels great! Nothing feels cheap or hidden by metal.

I think the part I love the most so far is in power mode, I feel like I'm getting the full voltage of the batteries. In my m80 the voltage would fluctuate during the vape. I'm sure that happens in the IPV4S, but if it does, I sure can't tell its happening. I don't have any TC wire yet and I'm on the hunt for some titanium wire today so I can try out the TC function of the device. Pretty excited about that as I've heard a lot of great things about TC.

Bottom line, if you get one... its money well spent. Thanks again to everyone in this thread who gave me their thoughts! I'm a much happier vaper now.

And to anyone who wants to get an M80 Pro over this; flow out the extra cash for the IPV4S.

I have the iPV 4 (upgraded) and the iPV 3 Li (upgraded). Love them both!!! I build with 30 ga Ni200 twisted with annealed 34 ga Kanthal for TC. Makes for easier building and vape great.

iPV4S is an awesome box ! I use it. There's a reason why they were smart enough to put the 510 on the other side of the button. There were a few boxes that did that and if you had a leaky tank or RDA it would run down into the button and short things out. Pretty sure I Stick was one of them. Enjoy the box !

Haha some times I STILL do that with 510 on opposite sides! Also, that shit is HOT, I have a scar on the webbing of my thumb/index finger

After several weeks of use, the IPV4 (upgraded) is my go to mod. Finally had the chance to use the TC on it today and I'm really enjoying it! A lot of options to really dial in a vape. It takes time to figure out but it has been worth it! Of all the mods that I have bought, traded, and sold since I started vaping this is the mod that has lasted longest in my hand and as my go to.

From an ergonomic standpoint, the way it feels in the web of my hand is the best out of everything that I own. The plastic "vape taco" battery cover comes across as a bit flimsy at first, but the texture is perfect and it just feels good. I'm sure that the taco will last just fine. This mod just feels like "home" in my hand right now.....well, at least until I "move".....

BTW, @ren.dnb , buy at least another set of batteries! Label them and use/charge them in pairs.

Lol funny you bring up the batteries. I went to the vape shop I frequent today to get another pair and they were sold out until tomorrow. But yes, definitely getting another pair.

And you'll like that Atty3. Just picked one up last week and been loving it.

I've had this IPV4S for almost a week now. It's really grown on me and I'm loving it the more I try it. I can actually see how inaccurate my m80 Plus was in power mode. 60w on the M80 is 55 on my IPV4S; but that shows how good the chipset is in the IPV4S. I have some titanium coming in this week and I'm going to try to run some dual Ti coils and see if I warm up to temp control (pun intended lol).

But so far, power mode rocks, Ni200 mode works like a champ but not my cup of tea, and we'll see how Ti mode works...

I'm probably passing judgement on ni200 too soon. But the vapor was a lot cooler, I had to take long draws and I wasn't getting any satisfaction. I was at 50j and 500 degrees F. Dual coils coming in at .06 26g 11 wraps 3.0 ID.

I think the coils needed to read higher. But I'll still tinker with it. Any tips @cage?

Ren.dnb have you been using the ni200 coils for long. I only ask because I'm at same point u are. At first I was getting nice warm vapes if I wanted to. Messing with settings. This morning. I'm in same boat as you, every vape is cool. Can't get a warm vape at all unless I'm inhaling for a long time no matter what settings I use. And it's to point where it's not satisfying me. Not sure if this is an indication of something

I bought it from a store locally here in NC lol. I know I could've bought it for less online but I hate waiting. Its a long story but the short of it is, I had a shitty experience walking into a vape shop one night (I mean really shitty to the point that I wasn't going to shop there). I sent an email through the "contact us" link on the website and I just unloaded. I wrote them off thinking I wasn't going to be contacted but lo and behold, I got an email an hour later from the owner apologizing and wanting me to give them a 2nd chance... And, he offered me 25% off my entire purchase, and offered to wait on me when I came in.

Went in the next week, saw the IPV4S and I bought it, a Nitecore D2 charger and a pair of Samsung 25R's for 120$. Couldn't really beat that. The price for the IPV4S was $74.99 when all was said and done.

Hey @MR. MAYHEM!

I used the Ni200 coil build from this past Friday to Sunday morning off and on. I would use the Ni200 build for a little while, get pissed off and drop my kanthal build back on there. Rinse and repeat. Eventually Sunday morning, I pulled the ni200 coils off of my Atty3 (I prefer that rda over my mutation now lol) and dropped the kanthal back in (kanthal build was in my Mutation and the bottom airholes leaking was pissing me off).

It was interesting but a little hit or miss for me. It all depended on how the voltage fluctuated with the IPV4S in temp mode. If the voltage was higher I would get some warm hits initially then they'd drop off. I would just raise the temp, but suddenly realized I was at 550 degrees F and 50J lol. Even with those settings tho, it would start off warm and then cool off. Dual coils got a bit better but would still drop off. Since Sunday tho I've been on a kanthal build just waiting for the titanium to arrive.

But yeah I had to take these long ass draws too, like I was taking this massive bong hit lol.

If your building your own Ni200 coils, make sure the screws are still screwed down tight. If using replaceable heads, make sure it is screwed down tight. If still not right, let the coil come to room temperature and try to set the resistance again (pay attention if it's greatly different from the beginning). If none of that helps, it sounds like it's time to build a new coil or put in a new head. Good luck.

Cheers,
Steve

Ok...

So I got my titanium in today and I was rather excited. I'll save you all the bullshit and cut to the chase:

26 gauge Spider Silk titanium
dual coil setup in an Atty3
9 wraps (contact coils with my coil master), 2.0 ID, .18 ohms
I use 100% VG because PG makes me feel funky

Started off at 50J and 420 degrees F. Couldn't get vape production that I wanted. Turned up to 450, newp, 475, then 500. I've settled in between 520 - 550 degrees and 60J. It's giving me the same experience almost as kanthal. If its off a bit, I can't really tell. However, I do get all the TC goodies like a wick thats lasting longer (yeah I realize I'm over the singe point but I'm keeping the cotton drenched), longer lasting juice, no dry hits, and tasty tasty vapor.

I need to spend a couple of more days with the build and see how I like it, but so far its satisfying me. Gives me an excuse to buy another dripper and keep a TC build in it so I can swap back and forth for now. But definitely a better experience than ni200 for me, so I'm gonna stick with Ti for my TC builds. I'm still paranoid over all the stigmas surrounding Ti and Ni200, so I'm a bit apprehensive to TC. But thats the internet for you; poisons your mind sometimes haha! Overall though, I'm enjoying it. The coils will stay in the mod for a couple of days and I'll see where I'm at from there. TC definitely has potential and I hope it gets perfected further as time goes on.

Anyway, hopefully someone finds this thread useful and helpful, and once again, thanks everyone for your input! Its been an educational journey going into TC.

Ok,

So I've spent 24 hours with titanium coils and I've really been enjoying the flavor. Its safe to say I'm sold on titanium. I popped on my kanthal rda to finish up the juice in the wicks and..... I could really taste the burnt flavor in it compared to the TC build! So now both RDA's will have titanium coils in them and I'll chill with TC for a bit.

you won't burn the house down lol... start with this build... works great on the kanger subtank (I learned to build on a kanger subtank). 26g , 5 wraps around the blue screw driver they give you with the tank. Trap the wires under the screws, tighten them down, straighten the coil with the screwdriver, then mount her up and check the resistance. Should be about .6 - .7 ohm.
