Eighty-six years ago today, audiences were first transported “somewhere over the rainbow” when The Wizard of Oz was released in theaters. Starring Judy Garland as Dorothy, the film dazzled Depression-era audiences with its magical blend of fantasy, music, and groundbreaking Technicolor.
Though it wasn’t a massive box office success at first, the movie’s legacy grew with every re-release and especially after its 1956 debut on television, where it became a yearly tradition for families across America. Songs like “Over the Rainbow” became standards, and characters like the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Wicked Witch of the West became part of our cultural fabric.
Today, The Wizard of Oz is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, preserved in the National Film Registry and beloved across generations for its timeless story, unforgettable songs, and enduring message — “There’s no place like home.”

15 Skills That Every Teen Learned in the ’70s But Few Know Today

It makes me so sad to realize how much basic, common knowledge is being lost.

I did find it amusing that the "rotary" phone in the picture was a push-button phone that just looked like a rotary phone. I guess they couldn't find a picture of an actual rotary phone. Which we STILL HAVE, by the way, out in the shop. The phone company came and changed our wiring from copper to fiber-optics, so it won't work anymore, but it DID. And if you ever have to clock somebody over the head, it's a fine tool. ;)

Speaking of old phones, saw this cartoon with the old Nokia cell phone that kind of fits into this thread. You could use them as a weapon also if you threw them at someone.

Wow! An Instamatic with a flash cube! I remember it was so futuristic to have FOUR whole flashes on one cube! LOL!

Yeah, who ditched the strings, anyway? Now I can't get into a Band-aid for love nor money, and especially not if I'm bleeding.

I was 11 years old and I remember ALL of that. The music, the TV shows, the moon landing... I didn't get to go to Woodstock, but when I was 11, I didn't really want to go. Looking back, I wish I'd been old enough to take myself there, just to say I did it.

Worse, remember the brick phones? ROFL! You could run over them with your CAR and they'd be OK. I was working at Motorola when cell phones first came out, so I saw the entire revolution. When I left, they were at the Razr phone (like the Star Trek communicators, remember?).

standing in the rain waiting to use a public telephone was not a fond memory though

I am glad I found this
for months I have been tryin to find model car paint (waterproof) and everywhere we went they looked at us like we were crazy and said those went out a loooong time ago.
Actually these model kits taught young kids roughly how engines and bodies go together, kinda like kindergaurden for future mechanics.
Far better than them playin video games all day ;) ;) ;)
I wanted a flourecent pink to re-paint my bobbers so I can see them when I fish

But anyway I loved puttin these model cars together
