Our bearded dragon got a visit to the vet after losing the ability to use both back legs. We found out Tiny was a he instead of a she. The poor thing was diagnosed with scoliosis, which meant treatment would likely not do any good. He was suffering, which was evident by the black beard. Only my touch would calm him down.

We decided to have him euthanized, so he would not have to suffer any longer than necessary.

I showed the vet a picture of the habitat, and told her about the daily care, temperatures, etc. I was doing everything right. Tiny was in the best of care. Some things are just beyond our control.

An Old Veterinarian's Perspective

Blog Post and Video With Dr. Patrick Jones

I've been a critter doctor for over 30 years. I've treated hogs and horses, goats and geese, cows, cats, cockatoos and canines. I've out maneuvered angry ostriches and can dodge llama spit with the best of them. Heck, I worked my way through vet school raising tropical fish.
Early on in my career, I started getting really interested in medicinal plants and have lectured and written a lot about the amazing benefits of herbs.
So, people often ask me; "Doc, can I use herbs in my dog or my chickens?"
The answer is...

Well then I guess my dogs executed 3 squirrels in this past week alone. Little furry bastards need to run faster than my 2 gsd's.

REAL FARMS NOT FAKE FOOD

Pets Are Being Sold Lab-Grown Meat

Hannah Twiggs writes for The Independent:

ā€œLast year, the UK government made headlines by granting Ā£1.6m to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to investigate something straight out of science fiction: lab-grown meat.

The notion of beef that never chewed its cud or chicken that clucked feels like the fever dream of a Black Mirror writer.

Yet here we are, Pets at Home has now launched what it claims are the world’s first treats that combine plant-based ingredients with lab-grown chicken, eliminating the need for raising and slaughtering animals.

And experts say, it is only a matter of time that humans are sold meat produced in vats, not fields. But, before you start imagining petri-dish poultry and test-tube T-bones in Tesco, let’s tackle the big questions: is it safe? Is it healthy? And will it save the planet or is it just another ultra-processed foodstuff?ā€

Read why the real question is whether this high-tech meat offers meaningful improvements compared to the conventional stuff

I love these animal rescue videos. They show what a privilege it is to be with, touch and hold a wild thing when it knows your scent and your voice, isn't threatened by you, and so is not a threat to you, and it loves you.

It looks like the baby bear was found on a roadside, probably long separated from his mama as evidenced by his distress and his great hunger. But later it looks like maybe he's been transferred to a wildlife rescue center. I really don't know any more than I see in the vid, but it sets me wondering... When released back into the wild, how does an animal find its own kind?

Mama wolf comes for her missing pup.

I've seen this venue before, in other animal rescue vids, so I suspect this is a wildlife rescue operation or shelter.

Look at the beginning, for some odd reason the rug changes. He opens the door, then video cuts out or something and a different rug is there when he let goes of the pup.

I think it's two different entrances. The one has the narrow porch (at about 0:31), the other one has the wide deck. As for changing the rugs, if they got wet or had to be cleaned... They have that big dog in the house, and the door pushes the rugs away when they open it.

I dunno. I think it's real, but I have seen where these videographers do things for better effect. People say ugly things about faking it. In the comments underneath the YT video of the fawn rescue I posted, someone said:

"the only wholesome stories being told are just clips of different animals that look similar spliced together with a fake story over it..."

Yet in that video, right before the rescue is completed, you can see the person filming with her phone as the sun is casting her shadow on the ground, phone and all.

I feel like I can recognize the AI vids in the first five seconds, and this isn't one of those.

Why would they go to a different entrance when the mother and pups are right there at that door? The whole porch changes and goes back to the original deck when the pack leaves.
Plus, it shows 4 pups with mother at first, than pup goes out which makes 5, than when they leave there are only 4 pups again.
Wasn't saying it was AI, but something isn't right.

I really don't know. If the pup was sheltered for a few days, fed, loved on, kept warm, he may have bonded with his hooman protectors. He looks a little hesitant to go with mama the first time. Maybe she and the other pups started to walk away, and the people kept him a little longer, explained to him where his true home is.

Or maybe they're showing two different releases.

Dunno, just theories. Should I take it down?

@2WhiteWolves

Now I'm thinking about you every time I see an animal video. The AI ones are sometimes cute, but so obviously are stories created using AI. There is always a camera where it needs to be, even in high speed traffic. You see the same actors in many of them.

Gawd, the man who stomps the kitten in this one needs to have it done to him:

But both AI.

One like this, though, is obviously real, a compilation of short clips from people's doorbell or porch cams (but I'm quite sure some of these YouTubers steal other peoples' vids to make the compilations):

Overpopulation by humans, or is it a lack of respect and care for our fellow creatures? It seems to me there is plenty of space left on the planet, for both humans and animals, but the animals are in danger wherever humans are around. It's pretty heartbreaking.

This guy just wanted to be left alone.
