I'll be staying home tomorrow as well. I'll probably be woken up at midnight due to the fireworks that will be set off.

Of all the holidays it just seems like New Years Eve is considered a license to drink, drive drunk, and be a dangerous menace.

One year I was on my way home from a NYE party when, on the last major thoroughfare before I would turn into my neighborhood, someone came heading at me at high speed, head on, driving in the wrong lane. I had to climb a curb to avoid being killed, but still the rear passenger side quadrant of my car was smashed.

I'd kind of forgotten about that trauma. I wasn't injured, but seeing headlights coming at you at high speed will make you want to stay home on NYE for the rest of your life.

Before that, when I lived in Dallas, mom would call on New Years Eve, and wouldn't hang up until I promised I wouldn't drink. So I became always the designated non-drinking driver with friends going out. Those were the nightclub days, when small venue concerts were the favored thing, not so much the NYE party, but clubs did their own celebration things, the silly hats, confetti, noise makers, etc.
