I saw a YouTube video showing how to make a wickless coil, so I thought I'd try it. Got mixed results...

Here's the wire I made. 2 piece twisted 24g kanthal with 26g wrapped on the outside:

Wrapped around 1mm rod. Came out at 0.32Ω

Here's the coil after pulsing it:

50 watts on my iStick 50W:

Vapor:

It definitely needs more than the 50 watts my iStick can give it. I didn't like the way it only gave a short spurt of vapor - I was hoping for maybe 3 lungfulls before reapplying juice. At least it was fun to build.

So, I'm very interested in receiving some constructive criticism.

Thanks!

Hmmm Not sure, cause I have never used a wickless coil, but I don' see how you would get much more out of it.Cotton is cheap, maybe you could slide a thin layer under it to wick up some juice, it might be easy and fast to change.

I ran the outside wire in the opposite direction of the twisted wire. Maybe if I ran it in the same direction it would help?

By trying to create juice channels within the coil itself so the juice doesn't drip off into the well. Even only two drops would be just fine, but it just keeps rolling off. Twisted Messes did one with multiple twisted wires that were then flattened after he twisted the wires together, making small channels in the coil. I'll try that one next..

Wickless coils work best with a wire that can absorb juice. Something like a fused clapton, alien clapton, staple coil all work really well. There are a few shops that sell em premade by some really awesome builders if you don't have the time or tools. But unless the juice can actually get INto the wire, i would not expect a whole lot of success. https://www.etsy.com/shop/floralwire?no_app_redirect=1
Www.vvvapes.com & www.twistedmesses.com all sell really awesome pre-made coils that would all work well for your purposes. Regardless, good luck with the experimenting!!

Crazy Twists on ebay sells some pretty bitchin coils too. I refer my customers to him when they are interested in them.

Cool, thanks guys! But I'm more of a DIY'er - Heck, I even went out and bought a drill just for coils! :D

Right now I have 22, 24, 26, 28 and 30g round kanthal. one coil jig, a Halcyon coil kit, and I just got a CoilMaster V3. My drill bits don't even go with my other tools - they sit at my vape desk. Yes, I have a vape desk. Crap, this is becoming more of an obsession than a hobby. :D

Gonna need to move soon so I can have a Vape Room! :D :D :D

twisted messes on youtube has a couple version that are good. It is a great coil for tasting juices at a shop (so you dont have to rewick)

Yup, I saw a couple of them. Tried the 4 strand twisted/flattened one. Interesting! But I can't really get the amount of hits that he did. I'll try it again soon. I'm out of 28g right now, so I tried it with 26g. Maybe position the coil further down into the juice well to grab a little extra juice.

No, I haven't really looked in to them yet. Any suggestions for brand(s) and how to use them?

I'll give it a try. Any suggestions for a decent tutorial on YouTube?

So I read that Claptons are useful for wickless taste testing. This is my first usable (2nd attempt) Clapton. The 2nd pic shows it positioned close to the deck so I can tilt it if there's any extra juice and get another hit. Works great! :D
