I really love my 6 plus, I've had it since last release day.

I really love android as an OS, but I haven't been happy with the experience I've gotten on most of the android phones I've had, except for the Moto X and Nexus 5, and both of them had drawbacks, too.

Nexus 5 glass smudged to hell all the time, and the camera and battery sucked, but I liked the handfeel of the device and android ran fantastically on it. loved it without a case and that might be my perfect device if the camera and battery were good, it really just felt great to hold. my 6+ is too big, really.

Moto X I had the same camera and battery problems with, but I LOVED active notifications and, again, the handfeel. It's almost insultingly thick by 2015's (ridiculous) standards, technologically I see the worth in making devices thinner but it doesn't do much for the consumer. Ergonomics are more important than having a 6.9mm thin device, and I'd much rather hold a Moto X for 2 hours than an iPhone 6.

iOS has some exclusive apps that I can't abandon, and if Android had functionally equal (or superior) replacement apps I'd definitely switch, because why not tinker if you can? There's so many more things you can do with an android.

iOS just consistently nails ease of use and champions user experience, so that's what I'm happy with for now. Excited to see changes, though.

but for you Uncle, if you want to try android there are plenty of inexpensive choices for you to make that give you an honest representation of what android can be, like the excellent Moto G/E phones. stock android, decent hardware, focusing on the user experience. Motorola gets it. There's also the OnePlus phones, powerhouses at cheap price points, but those are hard to get. If you go searching online, there's plenty of android phones with good specs you can get online for less than 300 bucks, some of them 200. There's a lot of options.
He got the Droid Turbo.

As someopne who has a genuinely dumb phone (it's hinged in the middle, f'rinstaqnce) I have felt the need for a while now to become a citizen of the 21st Century and buy a smart phone so this thread is of particular interest.

When @Shark Vape posted, "I could give better info if I knew how you use the phone 'recreationally'," I thought, "people do that?

I fell off my chair laughing when @Huckleberried posted about the message. ""Mail motherfucker! You got mail!" REPEATEDLY til he unlocked his phone."

A buddy of mine (who's in the same business as I) said he liked his Note 5, that he upgraded to a Note 6, then downgraded again as the 6 was "too buggy."

I'm learning, slowly. Soon, I too will have a hand held device which I wan't have to hide. So, anybody looking for a deal on a classic Motorola Razr?

The Note 5 (which just came out. There is no Note 6) marks the flagship's transition into native 64 bit architecture.
Same w/ the Galaxy 6. 64 bit is freaking phenomenal, btw.
The reason I would recommend the Note 4 are cost, and the fact that there is
no removable storage anymoreo_O on the new 64 bit Samsung phones, nor removable battery! (Note 5, Galaxy 6)
The Note 4 has both... and the best display in the industry... by a margin.

Ya, there's an incredible range of use. When you get yours, you won't believe you survived so long without it. :)

You are correct, of course. I suffer from numerical dyslexia. <G> Something young pups like @CurlyxCracker won't need to worry about for a few decades.

Thank you for your experienced insight and, yeah, he has the Note 4. And WTH, I've gotta make up my mind one o' these days (although I researched for six months before I purchased my first PV ... in 2009 ... about the same time I bought the Razr, I'd guess).

What? No votes for the super-well-built HTC one series? That sexy aluminium chassis, the STEREO speakers, the outstanding optics, the limp-wristed 1800mAh non-replaceable battery????

I vote for the HTC M8 well built, great display, very good OS and good (for me) battery life, plenty of storage, excellent sound with dual speakers

I need some help from the Vaping Underground Peanut Gallery this weekend.

Since my old cell phone was on its last legs after 4 years of faithful service, Mrs. Uncle took me to the Verizon Phone Store so I could join the rest of the family in this century and get a smart phone.

I decided on the Apple Iphone 5S as I really liked the smaller size.

It sucks.

Battery life not so good but I can kinda live with that if I needed to.

The one thing you need to know about my cell phone habit, is that I am basically a Luddite.

And when I am at home or in my office, I generally have it on my desk or on a table in my living room.

So if I don't hear the stupid thing ring, the caller goes to Voicemail and leaves a message.

And my phone only makes the sound reminding me that I have a voicemail one time only.

So if I am not in the room when the alert goes off, I miss it only to find it hour(s) later when I look at the damn thing.

So here is what I am looking for.

A smaller sized phone with decent battery life.

Multiple Alerts to nag the hell out of me until I pick up the phone to see what is going on.

Voice Commands

Voice to Text

Email and access to the Interweb.

Easy for a Luddite to use.

Lots of apps available.

The Android OS sounds pretty good to me but what do I know!

HELP!!!!
I know I am late to the party, but the one thing you want to remember is... It is all the same. What one phone does now that the other won't will only last for a few months. Anything that bugs you can be fixed with apps. BTW... To get multiple notifications on the iPhone... Settings > Notifications > Messages > Repeat Alerts > (set to Never, Once, Twice, 3 Times, 5 Times, 10 Times)

Sadly, I tried that and no Joy. I got in touch with both Motorola and Verizon support and they told me the phone would not do that.

But the app I found does it quite nicely and I am content.

For now:D

Motorola because they manufacture the Droid Turbo.

FYI, neither Motorola or Verizon could help me.

However, they both told me there was an App that would do the job for me/

Neither would suggest an APP as they were third party and they wanted to cover their asses if I downloaded an app that screwed up my phone.

Just remember UNC sometimes throwing your phone across the room is not always the best choice, even with an "otter" box on it. We've all had those moments, trust me.

How interesting ..... my Lumia finally died, it dropped off the second floor deck onto the concrete.... funny. My VaporsharkDNA200 has barely a scratch from it.

I came really close to that with the Iturd 5s. I have not even come close to that kind of aggravation with my Droid Turbo.

But just in case................................

And I have already installed an optical glass screen protector on the sucker.

The Moto X is perfect in terms of size (4.7" screen) and basic features, and if you're looking for something cheaper then the Moto G. They're super durable and have a pretty decent battery life.
