Needing a new box mod

Hey everyone, I am in the market for a new box mod. I have been using a 30 watt iStick with Subtank Mini since February and while it has been pretty good to me over that time span, it has recently began taking a dive on me. Every third or so time that I try to fire it, I get a "Protection" message. It does the same thing with both OCC coil and built coils along with other tanks I have tried.

I generally run a 1.2 OHM coil at about 15-18 watts. As of late I have given some thought to trying an RDA or RTA.I am torn between a removable battery and non-removable, but do not currently have any batteries or charger.

So, that brings me to shopping for a new device. Here is my criteria for a new device:
1. All day battery life
2. Pocket sized/discrete
3. At least 30 watts but would prefer to have the option to go higher
4. Reliable
5. Under $50
6. Must be able to charge via USB cable

Thanks!

Also, here are a few that I have looked at:

-Evic-VTC Mini
-Istick 40w TC
-Istick 50w
-MVP Pro 3.0

$10 more will get you a Kanger Subox Mini kit that includes the new Subtank Mini WITH .5 and 1.2 pre-made coils, AND the new RBA plus deck, and several sellers have it at this price WITH free shipping.

The Subox is capable of pushing out 50 watts.

I have given that one some thought, but I have a hard time spending money on another Subtank since I already have one

I would drop the iSticks and the MVP Pro, and add in the Aspire Pegasus, IPV D2 and the Sigelei 75w TC. The iStick and the MVP leave little to no room for future growth, while the Pegasus, eVic-VTC Mini, IPV D2, and Sigelei 75w all offer enough power to grow with you as your vaping style changes. They offer an ability to use them in the same way you use your current setup, while offering additional features and power should you decide you want to try new things.

They can all be charged via USB, with a caveat for the D2. The D2 is a standout in the USB charge option, not because it can't be charged by USB, but because it uses a non standard USB to barrel connector instead of the traditional USB Micro connector. It will charge over USB and can be used in pass through mode, although you will have to purchase a longer cable to do so since the one that comes with it is way too short. There are a lot of other options out there in this category, but these are the most popular mods on the market right now and they all come from companies with solid names in the industry.

There is a LOT more that could be said on this topic, but TBH, it's late here and I need sleep before work in a few hours. HTH!

Ipv d2 mini. Great mod and I bought the kanger sub tank separately. Couldn't be happier...until I went to make my own coil but that's for another thread

ipv d2 or evic vtc mini if you wantto go with replaceable batteries

my d2 has taken a bath, been dropped dozens of time son hard surfaces and keeps going. so i would say its very reliable.

but all day battery life depends of
wattage and how many mils you vape a day
i can get 10-15mls at 20-25watts on a STM on a single battery

Well I usually don't even go through 1 full tank on the Subtank Mini each day, so maybe that will give you an idea of my usage. I stopped by my local vape shop tonight and played around with both the Evic-VTC and the Sig 75w. I must say, I liked the feel of the Evic much better than the Sig 75. The Sig 75 felt heavy and bulky compared to the Evic. I did pick up some I Love Donuts liquid and am enjoying that as I write this.

Yeah, the Sig 75 is a bulky, heavy box compared to almost every other mod in the "mini" class of mods. That is exactly why I don't own one (that and I'm broke, LOL). The VTC on the other hand feels nice, is pretty solidly built, and has a great display. My personal preference though is the D2, it actually feels the best in my hands, and seems to out perform the VTC in almost every way. I get better battery life from the D2, and the same tank with the same settings on the VTC does not perform nearly as well as it does on the D2.

For me personally, I am similar to you in the fact that I enjoy sub ohm tanks and my current mod is failing on me... I am hoping it is not common for Eleafs to die on you because I actually went with the Istick 100 Watt! For $35 it will most likely be your cheapest yet best option for Vaping with a sub ohm tank (I'm assuming that is what your using but mabey not since you said you only really need 30 watts) at any rate though, I'm getting mine next week sometime hopefully so once I get that all set up and running, I will let you know how it goes and if it is worth it for you! The benefits are the battery life should last all day no matter what (considering it has dual 18650s) it has USB charging and passthrough, and of course it can do some major power for a pretty small device... Downside is button rattle (which isn't a big issue for me and I've heard can be fixed with a case) and there is no temp control on it (which I don't believe you are that interested in anyway) but yeah like I said I can't guaruntee that it's as great as I've heard yet, but I will let you know once it comes! Also any of DevAutos suggestions might be good for you as well, he really helped me out with this whole process of getting a new mod! You should direct all of your questions to him and the other helpful people on this site, and watch YouTube reviews of any mod your interested in until you finally come across your perfect fit! Best Of Luck!

Update on my post...still loving the ipv d2 and have tried others that just don't feel as good.

I lost the charging cable which is a pain because of the connection so bought a proper battery charger and another battery so I'm happy now.

I've stopped using the neoprene sleeve for two reasons. 1 it makes it hard to put in your pocket. 2 I'm changing the batteries over. Although the 2nd point is my own fault. A full battery lasts two days!

I've been using my kangertech subtank more than I was and love it.

The IPV D2 and SubTank mini was my first setup, and I still use it frequently. The biggest selling point for me was the size and that the batteries can be swapped out on the fly. It can be charged via USB, but I found it much easier just to carry a backup battery. With the SubTank I can usually go all day on one battery, but I like not having to worry about being tied to a USB charger. A couple batteries and a 2 bay charger is fairly inexpensive. If and when you really get into RDA's, you're going to need both eventually anyhow. The downside to the D2 is that it has a single battery, so RDA's at moderate power will chew through a battery fairly quick versus something that holds 2. You'll probably need to spend more than $50, but if you really want to get into RDA's, you'll want something than can do at least 50 watts IMO. It's rare that I run less than 65 watts unless I am using a tank.

The Sigelei 75w TC can also be found for under $50. It holds a single battery, has a charging port, and can do temp control.

If you don't have any interest in temp control, the iStick 100w could also be another great budget option at well under $50. It's a little bigger than what you may have in mind, but it will give you room to grow and experiment with the extra wattage. It holds 2 batteries, and does offer pass through charging.

If your vaping below 25-30 watts the D2 is not the best option really as it does not include step down, the upcoming D3 does though.

I love my D2, but its just not for supra ohm builds in my eyes.

Maybe a VTC, D3, Kanger Subox/ Nebox, Sigelei 40w Book?
