Tried my first titanium coil today; something was not right with the metal taste

I tried my first titanium coil today. The ohm was 0.27. The taste was horrible. It was like I was tasting metal. I did two hits, pulled it and put in a kanthal.

I know some people don't like nichrome due to the taste. I never had that issue but did not see enough improvement to switch from kanthal.

Do some people have taste issues with titanium coils?

Thanks

What brand Titanium wire were you using? Did you clean it with alcohol before using it? Also, how hot did you get it dry firing? If you got it red hot, it's toast for vaping.

I got spider wire. I didn't get red hot. I did not see any white ash. I was concerned about that after watching all the videos. I cleaned it with alcohol before using. How important is it to heat it before you start using it? That part worries me. It was really hard for me to tell if I was over doing it. My sig only goes down to 10 watts. That may be too high to heat it. I don't know if my mvp 2.0 would even fire it.

I heat mine briefly at about 18 watts. I did get a particularly funky taste from some 24 gauge for some reason, but as the 26 gauge is fine I suspect there was something wrong with my connections.

Is it spider wire? How brief is briefly. I was trying for it to turn blue. I may have gone too far.

I'm using spider silk for my coils and don't have any issues with metal taste. I fire them at 10w or less to get the coil blue to make sure I don't have any hotspots. I've built contact and spaced coils with no issues. I will say the first few minutes of using a new coil has an odd taste but it goes away very quickly.

I was worried I had messed something up. it was unexpected. Thanks for the info.

I am having the same issues with funny taste but it seems to be only initially with new coils.....ITS REALLY NASTY TASTING THOUGH!!

I'm using 2x26 ga Ti1 core with 34ga Ti1 wrap and doing spaced coils, just because I am still not comfortable dry-heating these things yet, mostly 4-6 wraps depending on atomizer. Even when I hit the button for a quick second the smell that comes off is nauseating almost. Got wire from Temco and it is annealed-- http://www.ebay.com/itm/381525419266?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I have ordered some 28 ga from them as the 26 ga. I currently have is not annealed and it is from Lightning vapes-still Ti1 though

I have heard Unkamen and spidersilk make a difference but I honestly feel like all titanium is probably gonna do this?? To be honest the problem could be in the current 26 ga. I have. Maybe I really need to wash it but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on washing the skinny wire for the wrap? It would be a real pane to unwind, wash, and rewind a 100ft of that stuff!!!

Thought about going to stainless but Ive seen wires break easily when they get hot etc. I loved Nickel Claptons a lot but heard so many things about Ti just tryin it out.......Has anybody switched since this post??
