Alien building problems

I've spent hours hunched over my drill without any success building aliens, I absolutely cannot get the right stretch on my decored Clapton to find a groove in the alien, and I'm getting core twisting issues. Can anyone offer some advice? I've watched some videos but I can't replicate it. I'm about to give up and buy a pair at this rate.

Can you post pictures of your current state(s)? It might help to give you the advice you're asking for.

Sorry for the pic, best I could do. As you can see it's pretty bad, its hard to believe I can even wrap claptons from it

It might be just unequal tension applied to the wire, while adding the outer wire. The part that looks good, you applied the proper (harder) tension.

So when wrapping I need alot of tension on the wire? Also other than tape how can I keep my core wire flat, its much harder that fused claptons because when I apply enough tension, it bunches up

I think, you just need more patience and practice.
