So I've decided that I'll be mixing by weight - it's simply so much easier to drop and go this way.

Issue is, I have no idea what general standard most people are making recipes by.

There's a popular e-liquid calculator that gives you the exact gravitational weight you need to go by based on compilations of tests done. There's also the popular method of equating 1ml of flavoring per 1 gram and vice versa.

So how do you know what in the world the person making the recipe went by? The difference could indeed be substantial. The difference between 1g and 1.2g when dealing with VG becomes 5 ml's even when dealing with just a 15ml bottle. In a 60ml bottle, that'd be a loss of 15ml's or so.

And even if you just loose 1ml of total flavoring, that's actually quite a bit especially on background notes.

So what gives? How do we know? I think this standard should start to be included!

I'd bet a huge majority of people who use calculators by weight dont change it from the default settings . Its been awhile since Ive looked at different calculators but if I remember right the difference in calculators was a difference of hundredths and the biggest differences was the PG . I could be totally wrong though. its all really based off % anyways when it comes to recipes like mentioned above. I understand what you are saying but I'll be honest you are making it to hard already lol. mix it up a sample at the recommended % and if you like it and long as you dont change your default settings its going to taste the same if you make 10 mls or 10 gallons

I've found it best to think I'm terms of PG and PG based flavors as .1g per ml and vg is around 1.26g per ml. Works great for me. Once you set your defaults as @wllmc stated don't change them and adjust your percents to your tastes such as 2%, 2.25%, 2.5% etc.....

pg and vg dont change
calculators have them set correctly
if you look up a whole bunch of flavors SG
you will find they are all close to 1

lets look at FA white peach its real SG is 1.04

I use it at 3% in most recipes
so if I use 1
there is a difference of .12g less in a 10ml bottle, .36g less in a 30 ml bottle, and .6ml in a 50ml bottle

mathematically there is a 0.02% difference. if you can taste that difference, my hat's off to you. most people can not taste that difference

I use the default setting in my calculator. If that's what I always use, then adjusting from there will always be consistent for me, which is obviously what matters when you make a recipe multiple times!

Maybe I have a little OCD, but I have a specific weight for each of my ingredients in inventory such as 1.052 Grams per ML for FA Blueberry Extra. When I add another flavor to my inventory I do a little research and about 50% of the time I get the specific weight. If not I use 1.045 as I find that to be around average.
