This is my first post so id like to say hi to all on the forum.

Recently started DIY mixing, and while I've had success using TPA and cappella flavours, FA is giving me grief.

I have been trying some of HICs and others recipes found here at VU. My problem is, no matter what % concentrates I am using, the flavour is poor. I've already been through multiple threads reading advice and tried all of them. From 1% to 20% on most of the FA flavours I have, the taste is muted. There's no bad taste, just no taste. I got a hint of bilberry at about 20% but nothing to write home about. I've tried shake and vape, natural steeping for a week and a few hrs in a crock pot at 60°C(140°F). Nothing seems to be working for me.
I bought my flavours from flavourart uk and I have made sure to give them a good shake before using. My PG VG and Nic are all from vapable.com and I have tried these on there own with no bad tastes. Im mixing at 70VG/30PG.

I'm using a subtank, lemo 2 and velocity RDA.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction cause I'd really like to experience some of the recipes from HIC, wllmc smokey etc.

Cheers.

Hey Sailor ;)

Well... I'm one of those that really loves FA. Are you mixing HIC's recipes as written? If you're not getting much flavor from them as written, I wonder if it's your PG, VG or nic base. Have you tried your PG and Vg on their own?

Welcome to the forum!

EDIT.... never mind. I see you've tried them on their own. Hmmm.

Yeow!
Try Bilberry at about 1.5-2%. (Where did you read 20%?)

I suspect you are simply 'over flavoring'. Post an example of a recipe you made with muted flavor.
Wanna see all the percentages... Plus whether you're using flavors that require steep times.

In general, FA flavors are MUUCH stronger than other brands.
I've tried bilberry and strawberry (not together but standalone) to name two from 1% up to 20%. It was only at about 20% I started to taste something. I wasn't a heavy smoker and I wouldn't say my taste buds are shot either

That's why I asked for the recipe.
If you're over flavoring one flavor, mebbe you're doing the same with the other flavors.
SOME flavors, if used in excessive concentrations, can and will mute some/all of the other flavors.
Flavors react with each other... and over time. We needa' see the whole picture.

I will say most FA flavors I've used of should be used at a total combined flavor percentage of
between 5 - 10 percent.
Yeah but I should be able to taste them standalone about 3-6% I would have thought. Going on what everyone says

I've tried following recipes:

HICs Purple Cow
3% FA Vienna Cream
2% FA Grape Concord
1% FA Vanilla Classic

Strawberry Milk (recipe from FA uk site)
Strawberry 70%
Cream Fresh 15%
Catalan Cream 5%
Vanilla Bourbon 10%
Made to 6% total of 15ml vg/pg/nic @ 70/30/3mg

Cornish Cream Tea (recipe from FA uk site)
CREAM 35%
STRAWBERRY 35%
COOKIE 30%
Made to 6% total of 15ml vg/pg/nic @ 70/30/3mg

All of these taste bland. No prominent flavour at all. HICs has a slight taste but when I increase it I get nothing and when I reduce it the flavour stays much the same. They all smell great however

Just a thought, how long ago did you give up smoking (if you did)?

I love FA flavors - to me they are on the whole the most realistic. But you may need to adjust the overall percentage of a recipe: for instance, you might take that last recipe, make a flavor base, and then use that at 8 or even 10% instead of 6%.

Hi AmandaD

Not smoked at all in 4 months. Even before then I was only 10 - 20 a day for the past couple years. I have had no bother with other flavour manufacturers as far as sense of taste goes.

Could it be possible I need the flavours below 1%. That seems crazy tho!

Your problem is probably the high nic concentration combined with waaaayyy too much PG for a Lemo.
I don't even understand the bottom 2 recipes but the HIC recipe sounds fantastic. That should be delicious.

Try mixing at 30/70 with around 6-8 mg nicotine. That will be a new world I'm sure.

Luck

Made to 6% total of 15ml vg/pg/nic @ 70/30/3mg:
VG - 70
PG - 30
Nic - 3mg/ml
Flavours concentrate: 6% of total mix

70vg/30pg is perfect for the lemo. My RAW nicotine strength is 72mg/ml which I dilute down to 3mg/ml. I used to vape at 6mg but since I use a dripper a lot I stick with 3mg

70vg sounds find . I'd take a known, popular HIC recipe, make a base (I think you know how to do that given the FA recipes you posted?) and increase the percentage to, say, 10%. 10% is pretty strong for Flavor Art (as a total percentage, not a single flavor), but you can always add some vg to dilute it down if it's too strong.

Incidentally, there are some flavors I have trouble with: FA apricot for one (I love apricot, but I just don't seem to be able to taste it in recipes).

Will try increasing my flavour base. Got some made up for Bilberry Gelato and also a Cherry Pie attempt.
Thanks

Yes it is. Please to forgive my misunderstanding. Here on this side of the pond, we normally list PG percentage first.
I thought your 70/30 meant 70% PG.

Like I said, I'm a lil' unclear on your wording.
But no matter, @AmandaD is here now. She's a pro and I was more of a placeholder just tryin' to help until the cavalry arrived.

Best
lol, Cheers
