Mechanical Box Recommendations Please

So I haven't vaped mechs much in the last year or so. I've been swept up in the techno craze, as I'm tend to do. I love my regulated, temp controlled box. And when I want to, I throw it in VW mode and rock a nice Kanthal dripper around the house.

That said, my hybrid tube mech has seen a resurgence in use lately. Been enjoying it a lot, but I've got spoilt by the battery life of a dual 18650 regulated vape, and the available power.

So I'm in the market for a mechanical parallel box. Nothing fancy - it won't be my daily driver. But I would like to vape mech more often without the constant nagging feeling that a fresh battery would make things oh-so-much-better (despite having only taken a few pulls. Yeah, I'm crazy).

For reference, the Castigator, Smowell Explorer, and "American Muscle" all fit my aesthetic tastes (making no statement on quality of either). Nothing wood. I have no issue with clones, and a flexible budget of $100.00. Call $100.00 the goal.

Recommendations? (Photos always appreciated)

Just got this today. About 30 bucks from 88evape. Solid. Little fiddling with the delrin cap. But works great.

I'm glad you posted that. It's been one of the contenders. That's a heck of a price too. Is it fully mechanical or mosfet? Hits nice and strong?

Any more specific features related to this particular mod?

It's pretty straight forward. Switch throw is really short. I have really been enjoying it.

The machining is a bit rough in the grooves and I had to clean up some burrs in the battery slots.
Also had to tighten the contacts at the positive battery bridge.

I learned my lesson yesterday. Mech boxes are not the type of mod to skimp on. Button unscrewed and fell off and the copper ribbon with the pin that held the other end of the switch (and also makes contact with the 510 assembly to fire the mod) settled into place against the 510 and off it went.

Moral of the story. If you're batteries cost more than your mod, say goodbye to both.

I just picked up a Conspiracy Box mod today. It's a series box with mosfet. It's made down here in Alabama. Got it at my local B&M, I had been eyeing it the last month and added it to my collection. As per the warning that came with it, I put a .36ohm 12 wrap 22ga kanthal build in there. This thing hits hard. It's not like my H.O.G., but it hits damn hard.

That sounds awful. I can only think of a couple ways that would happen. Not sure how China would be involved....Wait, is that where your brother was when he put the batteries in series or put the bridge in upside down?

that mod you bought looks like a cherry bomber made in china, comes with a pouch of pure grain black powder, after all china was the first ones to make gun powder, everytime I see this it bothers me ,why buy china there is no contact number to call to complain, and they are filled goops of glue and slapped together, I am surprised nobody has got hurt yet real bad that I know of. look at some I make with quality parts and safe safe safe , is it really worth the risk to spend as little as possible with the chance of burning your face, I don't think so , for a few 20 or 30 more bucks this is the way.

If he'd suggested such I might have bought one. Things have taken a nice turn for me in the past few weeks and I can be more flexible than my original $100.00 goal. That said, this thread has had a good number of posts, but a noticeable lack of *suggestions*... I've always vaped regulated and more recently TC but never mech, hence my request for *suggestions*. I thank the one or two who did offer up options though, and if either of you see this I looked into both earnestly.

That mech bomb I had was a cheapo. But in lieu of instilled knowledge one must go learn on his own. Not having any idea what was good or not good, I read what I could, but wanted to see, and feel. That thing was a disaster. Hit great, but the button fell off causing the firing pin to spring against the 510 and stay there, as that acrylic model as the copper (or whatever) ribbon running from negative up to the switch.

I just picked up an Incubus clone. Someone suggested it... Much better. Still some issues - 510 that adjusts itself down with the atty constantly, chintzy firing mechanism. But all in all nice for 60$

Though that cherry bomber hit like a ham-handed heifer fighting over a double ration of slop. (It hit hard). And I liked it a lot. Such is the nature of short relationships eh? Hot and heavy, fast and intense, and destined to end in flames.

I like the Titan, and the Castigator, though neither can be had it seems.

Lol....nomuff2tuff, how much are your mods? You troll around trashing chinese stuff and suggest a certain ebay seller in another post. In another post you say you sell mods. In another post you brag on a 90% ebay rating. 90% is a pretty poor rating on ebay. I've purchased junk from eBay sellers with 99.5% rating....just saying.

Nomuff2tuff, I have no idea of the quality of your product, it could be top notch. No one is gonna trust someone trolling around, underhandedly trying to sell his product. Not sure if you are trying to trick people into buying or if you are trying to avoid any sponsor/ad fees VU may want, nonetheless, just be up front.

For a full mech box I'd recommend the Dimitri to anyone. I got one on eBay. Good quality and it was $30, never a problem unless it gets dirty, its easy to take a part, clean and be back on your way in 5-10 minutes

Been my daily driver for months. Chinese as fuck, 1:1 clone.
I disassemble and reassemble almost daily, as I did with my tube mechs. Always a good practice when dealing with shit that doesn't have security features, and it also hits harder when you clean that black grime off, this goes with any mech.
Maybe if good practices we re in place we wouldn't be blaming other people for things that happen due to our own negligence.
Best 20 or 30 bucks I ever spent in vaping.

Is that a v1 or 2? The v1 isn't safe, or at least the first release wasn't because a piece the Dimitri uses was left off. The switch was bypassed on the first release and could auto fire. Granted those were in certain circumstances that I don't think many would be in but its still a bad deal if the planets aligned perfectly and the thing fired without someone's knowledge.

This one has a white piece of plastic that separates atty from device. I've used wider 30mm attys like odeon without it autofiring. In fact it's never autofired. I made my own spring in the switch which gives it a harder throw since the lock mechanism blows, that's my only complaint on the device.

Here's the thing. I could not possibly care less where it's made. Just how well it's made. The cherry bomber mishap I had was as much my fault as it was the product's. The firing pin should not come off with regular use. Period. That said, it's in my hands, in my home - so I should have been more aware of how prevalent that issue is. PM me your eBay store and I'll check out your wares. I don't care how you market your shit. If you've got something I like ill buy it.

I sell on eBay myself. But do try to keep it off the forums. Seems bad form to me. Other than the O-Ring thing which was as much a PSA as anything, I don't think I've ever solicited for myself.

Your not wrong. Just a bit sanctimonious. I'd been using it for less than a day. It got here, I tore it down, polished, reassembled, tightened and used. It was halfway through the day and the firing button worked itself out. I'd read about the issue, but didn't know what to look for, or that it was truly that common. Now I know. I will probably pick another one up, this time not acrylic though. That was more a test run.

Anyway. Good practices can't compensate for a truly bad product. The only good practice for that one would have been not to use it at all.

I'll check in when the new one gets here.

Not sure how it performs, but the incubis is pretyt sweet.

I picked up the SS model. I like it a lot. I can imagine how amazing the authentic would be, but for nearly $250.00 it's not gonna happen. The clone I got needed some tweaking and some adjusting, but it's been great.

I would love to replace the 510 internals though. If anyone has any insight into how I can do that it would be swell.

I've had the switch screw undo itself on more than one occassion, usually you can tell it's happening cause the throw changes, and the switch doesn't go in all the way. Open latch, tighten, reclose. I've even had the one screw under the 510 pin come loose from the battery twisting as I secure it in place, which caused a short. I noticed cause when I screwed it in I heard that shorting noise and cells immediately became hot, real hot, I took them out and set them aside, after 20 or so minutes they came back down and nothing happened. Could have been worse. I got magnet set from bevapehappy which shorted out and magnets now don't push away so I mcguivered a new spring out of some thick wire I had. Also lost the stopper that secures 510 connector to the nut. Had to mcguiver that too.
Device is definitely flawed as fuck, but I worked my way around it and haven't run into anymore issues since. It is what it is.

So you are saying that it does not bother you that your mod shorted because it could have been worse? Not trying to be a dick here but I would have never used that mod after all those issues. Seems like an accident waiting to happen.

Check out moder box. You can customize it to your liking and the price is good for a very nice product. Everything is cleanly done. About to order a triple 18650 parallel from him next week. Just got to find a good pic for the engraving.

if your just here to blow smoke up peoples ass I'm sure you can find a site for that,

I'm blowing smoke? To qoute you
"There is a guy on ebay that builds custom unregulated and regulated , he will custom build you one and your choice in powder coat color, nice guy awesome prices here is his ebay seller name railroadmb88, good luck mate."

Then in another post, you go on to show the boxes you sell. All I am saying is that it is a bit underhanded to recommend a seller that happens to be you. It is possible that you recommend another's product that also is the type of product you sell, but not likely.

In another post you offer up your 90% ebay rating as a reason someone should trust you. As I've said, I've bought crap from sellers with better than 99%, so why should a person with only 90% be trusted? While I don't necessarily trust ebay as you suggest, but I have a tendency to trust dissatisfied customers to report problems. I am more likely to to trust seller who have only upsets 1 in a hundred customers than 1 in 10. I'm not speaking to the quality of your product, they could be some of the finest boxes around, I can only speak to what you have posted here.

You can see where it seems disingenuous to crap all over chinese products (though some very well deserve it), while recommending your own, while pretending to be an objective 3rd party.

Pm me if you want to further discuss this, I consider this over, and don't want to continue to crap all over someone else's thread.

I'm saying the mod requires you to check on it frequently, that everything is tight. It won't come loose overnight, but sometimes, due to the way the lock mechanism works and how you screw the batteries in, things gradually loosen.
Lock mechanism is no longer an issue since I made a thick spring that makes the throw hard, so I no longer need it.
So no, it doesn't bother me. I take the 510 apart almost daily and the rest every few days for cleaning. Still my all day, everyday. Just have to keep vigilant.

Fasttech is reliable, but most importantly they have reviews of items posted by other users. They generally offer multiple models from different manufacturers, wait for reviews to post and you are likely to find out which ones are worth the trouble. Only issue with fasttech is the amount of time it takes to receive product.
