Left the white ring off the positive post when I rewrapped. Is it necessary

I rewrapped a battery today. On the second I noticed the white ring on the positive side. I found the white ring from the first one on the counter. Can I use the battery without the ring on the positive post or do I need to rewrap it again? They are married but I could move them to a single battery mod.
