Advice with my new kit

Have been vaping for two years strictly as an aid to replace cigs. Started with the small egos and have for the last year been using a Protank 2 supported by Kamry K200+. I started mixing my own liquid about one year ago then found this forum and have now been bitten by the bug. Of late I wanted to find out if I upgraded my kit it would give me a better vaping experience so I have now ordered this setup. IPV4s 120w, Uwell Crown and some Sony VTC5s. I only plan to use the RBA deck as a backup for if I have no coils. I would like to buy a stock of coils preferably the SS type. I am more into flavour than clouds so could someone advice me what coil rating would be good and what setting the IPV4s should be cool at. I have been looking at the 0.25ohm. Thanks D.

My favorite for flavor are the 0.25 ohms, but you have to run them at least 60 watts to get good flavor - which will be fine with the IPV4S. I know that @Hank Spankman prefers the 1.2 ohm coils, and I do use those sometimes for out and about, or on my nightstand mod, because they make a lot less vapor! But to me the flavor is very muted with those coils. I also keep a stash of 0.5 as a happy medium, and to use on mods that only go up to 60 watts. My least favorite funnily enough are the Ni200 coils, which I rarely use.

I forgot to add that your Crown will come with three different coils, so you'll have a chance to see which you prefer. Be absolutely sure to watch this youtube video on priming - it makes a huge difference with these coils:

Thanks Huck and thank you AmandaD for the video link. I would have just filled that baby up and let it rest for 5 minutes before use. Patients makes sense after watching the vid, I knew very little about the Uwell Crown coils as to regards their breaking in, thanks again.

Aspire.JPG

Received my IPV 4s and Uwell Crown yesterday. Followed the instructions on the youtube video above and then gave it a blast. Started it at 40w and moved up through the ranges up to 70w. I was using the 0.25 coil but my expectations were smashed. At 70w I could not inhale on it as it was to hot, in fact even at 40w it was not comfortable. This unit is a big jump from my other unit which was is an Aspire Nautilus which I use with a 1.8 coils. I do not know if the Crown is supposed to make the vape warm or even hot but I know it should not be uncomfortable to use. I have tried using it with air holes half open and fully open but I have now emptied it and placed it back in the box. Even the juices I normally use tasted rough, I have been using recipes made from Hic who posts on hear and in my Aspire they taste great but in the Crown they taste rough. I have ordered some 1.2 ohm coils for the Crown and will give them a try. I have placed my Aspire on the IPV4s and set it to 11w, the Hic juice tastes great again and the clouds are quite big although I am more of a taster than a chaser. If I have to stick with the Aspire I will have no problem with that but it does seem to be a shame that using the crown setup as advised in reviews on the web that it cannot match up to the Aspire for taste production, the crown wins hands down for clouds. One other thing about the Crown it makes one hell of a noise that sounds like a waste disposal unit in full flow. Maybe sub ohmin is not for me.

You're right there, subohming isn't for everybody, just like tootle puffing at 11w isn't for everybody either.. Its great we have the options to do both...

Tootle puffer.png

I would deffo Tootle Puff with her.

The one difference is I use an IPV 4s to Tootle Puff and not a an Ego, Provari, or 10 or 20W istick.
Should have stuck with my Vamo and saved myself £100+.

Lol
I vape for the nicotine hit...Sub ohm vaping delivers that nic hit at 65-70w for me much more efficiently now than that Provari/Protank set-up I started with as a newbie tootle puffer 3yrs ago...lol

The Crown is definitely a tank for direct to lungs hits. In addition, only because others are using a certain wattage for a certain coil, doesn't mean, you have to use it at the same setting. You'll have to find your sweet spot for your juice, coil, and preferences.

Started the same way 2 years back and have not smoked cigs since. I am still vaping at 14mg nic and I was also hoping that sub ohm vaping would allow me to bring the nic level down although the IPV 4s has made a massive difference to how my Aspire Nautilus performs, no doubt I will burn the coils out quicker. Have ordered a dripper as well but if I cannot hack the Crown I doubt I will be able to get my lips around a dripper.

Two things you may need to adjust to enjoy the crown: higher VG and lowering your nicotine level will make the experience smoother. It does take a little practice to subohm, and it may not be for you, but do try changing the juice ratio and nic level before you give up.

14mgs in a Crown would be pretty tough. Just try it with zero nic to see the difference, and adjust up from there (many of us vape 3mg).

IMO, the Crown is a Sub Ohm tank on steroids. If you want to stick with a good Sub Ohm tank, and replaceable coil heads, the Triton (either V1 or V2), would be a good choice.
Using a 0.5 Ohm coil with the same juice, on the Crown I need to run it at 45W (due to being dual coil heads), were as with the Triton, I only run 35W. As mentioned, it depends on your juice, coils, and preferences. Start at a low setting, take few drags, if it is satisfying to, leave the settings. Need more flavor/vapor, increase the power. Repeat, until you find your sweet spot.

I will give the 0.5 coil a go and see how that works out, I will also try 3mg nic and maybe up the VG. The mix was 50/50 and high on nic. Thanks all for the advice.

Rule of thumb is, you use 1/2 the nicotine of what you're using for (in you case) the Protank.

I said I would give an update on how I get on with the crown so here it is. After having little success with the 0.25 sub ohm coil which must be down to my own personal taste I bought a pack of 1.2 ohm coils, of course this is not sub ohm but after following instructions on wicking I started to vape at 10w and moved through the digits until I got to 30w. This was to high but 25w was ok. I changed out the drip tip to a narrow bore and this was better. The juice was much heavier on the vg side at 80 - 20 and the nic down from 12 to 6, I am now a lot more comfortable with the crown at these settings but as neunerball said the crown is a sub ohm tank on steroids and most probably I feel is a bit out of my depth. Jumping from a protank 2 using 2.2 ohm coils straight into a sub ohm tank at 0.25 was to bigger jump. My Aspire Nautilus (full size with black glass) running at 1.8 ohm does look nice on the ipv 4s and vapes lovely at 12.5w but maybe the ipv 4s is a bit overkill for this kind of vaping. I bought a dripper to test my diy liquids but again I could not get on with the pre fitted 0.2 ohm duel coils but changing the coil for a 1.0 single coil and running the ipv 4s at 30w I finally hit my sweet spot and was most probably the best taste I have had. My diy mix was 85vg 15pg with only 3mg nic, I upped the flavour % from 7% to 11% and my juices come to life. If I drop my coil builds by 0.1ohm to 0.9ohm I can then join the sub ohm club. Thank you all for your advice I have learned a lot over the last few weeks since joining this forum.

A great rule of thumb is the lower the coil the higher the VG the lower the nic.
