PG/VG Ratios in DIY Juice

@Flavor Alchemist.... I did up my two test bottles this morning. One 50/50 and one 80/20 with 3% forest berry. I tried them both,, oh yeah I taste that! Forest berry must be pretty strong. They tasted very similar but we'll see hoe different they are in a week. I'm guessing I need to shake daily?

I think alot of it has to do with tolerance. i know when i started to DIY at first i was using the 20 drops = 1ml thing which is a known fallacy and was aiming at 10% which was really mostly 5% with my method. now i use 20% flavoring in most of my mixtures and if i went to 5% i would not taste anything. so i really think alot of it has to do with what your tongue is used to. you can train your tongue to be satisfied by 5% flavoring but once you go to 20% youll be unable to sense flavors when they are real low. i could be wrong this is just my experience.

Geez, maybe that's why I don't taste those low percentages. I've been vaping on my own 20-30% juices for over a year now. I'm really amazed I could actually taste that 3% forest berry I mixed this morning.

Coolness.............I got some Forest Fruit steeping right now.......Honing in the flavor Percentages with a few blends at 2%, 3%, 4% and 5%, in a 50/50 PG/VG.......You mentioned you were gonna try both a 80/20 and a 50/50 PG/VG.........which one are you tasting at the moment?.......... By the way, what equipment are you vaping with?

I use an Istick 50w (or a 30w) and just use a little 510 atty to taste stuff. I have new attys coming this week since mine are a few years old. Don't get the best flavor out of them but they give me an idea. What does everyone else use to test mixes? I don't build so that's not an option.

Edit cuz I forgot,,, I tasted both mixes, and they were very similar. I'm still a little amazed I actually could taste something at 3%!!!

70VG for me works best on the Subohm tanks I generally use, Crown, TFV4, OBS VCT-V and Arctic. I use to go 60 or 65vg but would sometimes get a little spitback. 80VG works OK most of the time but with some tanks I can get a dry hit due to the thickness of the juice and not wicking fast enough.

I vape high VG as well, just 'cause I like it and, like you, rarely have any 'spitback' problems. However, wicking hasn't been a problem (knock on OCC) so I haven't had to worry about dry hits since I switched to TC, I vape them suckers dry to reduce transfer when I'm switching flavors. Life is good!

I don't understand your question. If you mean do I adjust my flavors higher because I vape higher VG, then no. Not really. Then again, I've been vaping high VG for a couple of years now which is when I started becoming proficient at DIYing. In the beginning I sucked at it so pretty much every mix wasn't that great. I also use pretty strong flavorings so even with the high VG, they are plenty strong. Is that what you were asking?

after steeping did u notice a significant difference between the 80/20 and the 50/50 i know the basic consensus is that VG mutes flavor. but from my experience and the advice of some very very veteran mixers. the vg muting flavor is a myth. and the flavors should be basically identical no matter what you mix the ratio at. as i am still on the fence about all this im just curious what you ended up thinking about the two difference mixes of varrying ratios.

Hasn't been a week yet so they're still steeping. I checked on them yesterday,,, odd, but the aroma on the 50/50 mix is far stronger than the 80/20 mix. Same on the taste... I'm getting more flavor out of the 50/50 mix. Goes against everything I've thought SHOULD happen!! I set up another experiment... A simple four flavor mix that's 10% in a 50/50 base and one in the 70/30 that I always use. I'll have to let that one sit too but this little experiment could change the way I've been mixing for two years!

I drip mostly, sometimes use an atlantis v1 tank,
streight lung hits for me. I like the feeling of all that vapor going down my throat and filling my lungs.

All my mixes are highest vg possible.
I add no pg, and my nicotine is vg based
any pg in my mixes only comes from the flavoring

I don't purposely steep anything, but I normally have 10 or more 240ml bottles made and constantly change what flavor i'm vaping, so it takes weeks for the bottles to empty.

Not so much muting flavors as do certain additives, but I've found that VG mixes require longer steeping than those with s significant PG component. While a personal preference, I enjoy the 'texture' of high VG vapes and generally prefer the hint of sweetness so it's worth the wait.

That's the area I find myself experimenting with and am starting to increase my flavor percentages bit by bit and am finding that the increased VG allows for this (for me)......and is producing more flavor "blossom" than the higher PG ratios......I have found that even though PG is reported to be flavorless, it still does impart a bitter taste to my juice at higher %s than I like.....As SailCat pointed out: I do have an appreciation for the texture of the increased VG.......Will continue experimenting..................

I'd use that on Aromamizer, no problem wicking with any kind of build, but aromamizer wicks like beast. I've done 40/60 on Lemo2 and Billow with no problems either. Just used 2.5mm diameter coils minimum.

I just got a LemoDrop and Goblin Mini........Excellent Flavor.......Using cotton Bacon and Organic Japanese cotton........I was recommended to check out Rayon.........What are you using for wicking Material?............Just did a mix of FA Forest Fruit 6%.... at 40/60 PG/VG......12 ml each.....1 Bottle at 50/50 at 5%.........gonna steep one for 1 - 2 weeks.....The other one I am gonna wrap in a pair of socks and throw into my laundry dryer when I do a load.......or 2.....

Steam Crave, it is my favorite tank so far. Works similar to a dripper but with a 3 or 6mm tank.

It looks sweet but I still need to figure out how to overcome a couple of minor physical shortcomings (cvision & dexterity) to get my coil-winding game together. OK, I'm still on the bench, actually.

That's cool........What I do is run it through a 70 minute cycle and when it's done, put it back into my steep closet for another day or 2.......It does quicken the steep a bit, so right now I am only doing it for my experimental stuff.....In the early stages of determining my preferences for PG/VG ratios, in addition to flavor %s for standalones.....Currently playing with 50/50 blends.......and stretching some blends to 40/60 PG/VG......I read about the dryer idea somewhere, but not sure where........may even be here.....but I don't use glass for the dryer.....I wrap the plastic bottles in a zip loc bag, then double wrap in tube socks......Most of my other stuff I am Natural steeping for 2-3 weeks.........and will prolly continue it that way when I settle on PG/VG ratios that I want to mix with......Dryer thing is primarily for hastening the tasting process......As you may be aware, there are all kinds of steeping philosophies out there, and who's to know which way is "right".....other than to do what is right for oneself......Plastic bottles may also be an issue for heat based steeping, as it has been suggested that chemicals from LDPE bottles may leach into the juice upon being heated.....Again, another subject for interpretation........

I'll have to to give it a shot. I put my glass bottles in a water-filled "Little Dipper" Crockpot, which gets the juice to 49C according to my thermometer. Of course, this means I have to get up and manually shake each one . It's worked so far, but I'm always willing to try new methods
