Just sharing something I learned as a newbie

So, for a while now I have had a problem with coughing my lungs up when I first hit my vape, I still smoke so sometimes it's not till a few hours after I get up that I grab it. I've been using Avail juice because they have 3 locations in my area and I love not one the flavor but the customer service. But I've coughed my head off every time I took the first few hits... started with a Tritontank Halo, coughed like crazy, upgraded to the Kbox Mini at the suggestion of the clerk, love it but still felt like I was dying on the first hit. Well here seems to be the big problem. The clerk wanted me to use the .5 coil since I was a 2 pack a day smoker, he said I wouldn't need the 1.5 coil that came with it because I smoked so much. Well just as an experiment I cleaned out my tank and put the 1.5 in since I have read it gives a better flavor. First hit.... zero coughing, great cloud, and TONS more flavor than I got off the .5. I thought it was Avails blend that had me coughing so hard... nope, all I needed was a 1.5 coil instead of the .5. I'm now pulling on it like a mad man and enjoying every bit of it. If anyone comes across another newb that complains about the throat hit and coughing on a .5, please pass this on to them. Hopefully now I'll finally quit the death sticks for good now that I have learned how great vapeing can be.

Btw I'm a MTL person running at 14 watts. I tried MTL and DL on the .5 and no matter what wattage I was running I still coughed really hard.

I've found that there are "suggested guidelines" for those coming from a heavy smoking habit, for nic strength, ohms, watts, etc. What these suggestions are based on, I really do not know. But honestly, every person is different and what works for one may not work for another. Vaping is mostly based on individual preferences and after that I'd say it's what you can handle.

When I was getting ready to switch from a pen to a mech, I was talking to a guy at a shop who suggested I start with a .25 coil. Without even knowing what battery I would be using.

I find with subohm coils if the wattage/power is too low its harsh. I think it is because the liquid is not fully vaporizing and there might be liquid drops in the vapor as opposed to a more smoothly vaporized vape with a little more power to the coil.

Funny, considering that when I started out rebuilding, and I think I'm one of the lucky ones, the guy at the shop said the lowest he was comfortable teaching me to build was 0.5 ohms.

Yes, as a MTL, it's better to use the high resistance coils. For DL, it's better to sub ohm. In addition, the liquids are different too. Usually, when you switch from smoking, you want to have the same, or similar throat hit, so you use high nicotine and higher PG. For sub ohm, rule of thumb is, you use half the nicotine and usually higher VG.
