Vaping Hygiene?.........New user concern

Being new to Vaping Mods and Diy Eliquids (and slightly ocd:)) I'm a somewhat concerned at the poor level of Hygeine on display in various instructional videos I have viewed on the subject.

I'm surprised that little care is displayed in handling and cleaning the devices and Atties.

My concern I guess is potential health issues and infections in breathing in vapour from unhygienic apparatus.

The various coil builds I have viewed use various tools and hands on work but are not cleaned in advance of being used. Have seen little or no instruction regarding keeping devices clean on a day to day basis.

The state of some end users builds after some time in use leave a lot to be desired......condition of wickes and coils.

Another concern is the unknown level of hygiene from the various vendors of eliquids (who are not subject to any code of practise i.e like the food industry). That said I did see the flavour art factory tour (watch from 19min) and it is evident that some areas of the industry take hygiene very seriously.

Would be interesting on thoughts on this subject....

Oh and any tips would be appreciated on hygiene regime in your own set-ups.

For me it comes down to buying high quality gear and e-liquid. Mystery metals from PRC atties, basement brew e-liquid and cotton made from gin trash are what I would be concerned about most if I had a small vape budget...
I just rinse my tanks and drip tips in warm water 3 times when I re-wick, coil, or change coil heads...

I give all my new tanks a good long rinse in very hot water and the carefully wipe them down before using them.As for mod cleaning I wipe them all down on a monthly basis with a bit of dirt cheap vodka on a micro-fiber towel.I carefully inspect each replacement coil before attaching it to anything. If it looks or feels funky it gets tossed.I clean all my drip-tips daily by rinsing them in hot water.
Never use soap on any vape gear ever and unless you like the taste of vinegar stay away from using it on vape stuff use dirt cheap vodka instead.

Tanks get cleaned weekly, sometimes twice. I take them down completely and soak them in alcohol for about an hour. Wipe them down, allow them to air dry. Tips, get cleaned every day.

Mixing area, is as sterile as my cooking area. Because it is my cooking area. I hate drips and runs. So there is a lot of paper towels being used.

I also don't need a state law telling me to wash my hands after using a public restroom.

But there are people who do. Just sayin

Did you know you most likely have pneumonia germs in your throat? At any time they can slip down into your lungs and guess what you get.
Why do we have no throat cleaning instructions?
How about the crease around your fingernails?
Dental cleanings can stir up bacteria that not only can end in you needing a root canal they can give you systemic blood poisoning.
And your anus, if you fell face first into a dog pile would you rub it with tissue and call it clean?

If the chunks off my lip build up on the drip tip so much they start try to go back on my lip I'll rub them with my shirt or pants.

I'm about to become immune suppressed. My ecigs will be the least of my worries. I have little worry about my germs (except the pneumonia ones which have got me once), I'm used to me. It's what all you germy humans touch when you're out in public that freak me out.
What's your excuse?

If you are worried about your own flora and fauna that lives in your sewer hole and on your body... YOU have serious issues. Like seek professional help kind of issues.

Unfortunately, most of us have to touch things in the real world. And the real world has things that are airborne.

I have no desire to provide anything with a place to grow. Although it's impossible to prevent that, we can be pro-active.

I catch a cold every year (twice this one). But it's rare for me to catch the flu, and I refuse to take flu shots.

Here's my favorite.

Do you wash your hands before or after you pee?

If not before, then maybe there's another dirty issue that needs to be addressed. ;)

Was taught not to pee on my hands, also 1 ply gets you in touch with your inner self and not in the metaphysical way.. Depending on what I was doing before going to talk to a man about a horse, yes I will.

I laugh at the purell zombies... that little bottle of denatured slime is not going to do for you what a decent hand washing will.

I don't mind you not getting flu shots, just stay home when sick. Even though I have to get them odds are I don't get full immunity to withstand direct exposure.

Since you mention DIY, what about poop juice made in stores with their mixing area too close to the bathroom? What about when you voop, are you not pulling poop gasses across your coil? That's probably what the crust build up is :D

They have hand sprayer bidets for about $30-$50. They can be usually be installed without tools. Then by the time you get in touch with your inner self it's nice and clean.

I also need the hand sanitizer, small bottle in my coat pocket, large refill in my duffel. People insist on going in public when sick and touching stuff and I can't open everything with my elbows. And they bring their germ factory kids with them. Here kid, want some lotion? That's right, rub it all over your germ ridden body.

Not what you think it means.
I have a medical background, I am fully aware of disease vectors and pathogens transmission.

Purrell is nothing more than good for filthy people's feels.. I had a Dr. scoff at me confronting him after he peed on his hands and left the bathroom without washing his hands, he told me the antibiotic hand crap was good enough and he did not have to wash his hands.
That did not last long and hospital was less than thrilled with his lack of hygienic practices.

Hand washing and covering your face would prevent transmission of 85% off the cold and flu cases. That and staying home sick instead of infecting everyone around you.

.... Also....can't teach an old dog new tricks is usually a standard. If someone don't care then this won't matter....to each is own. Take precautions for yourself and pray for others I reckon ;)

You do realize, 95% or more Americans don't even know what a bidet is. lol

I'm thinking at least a few here, had to Google it.

I clean my vape gear like my genitals, at least once a day and always after someone has touched it :p
Make sure to clean drip tips every few hours of use, no lip scum please...
Q-tip and Isopropyl Alcohol is what I use to clean everything down with and when needed for contacts, vinegar and a toothbrush. Rise and Dry with Microfiber.

Living in a hygienic bubble of antibiotics and hand sanitizers is why most people have weak immune systems...

What about those with hyperactive immune systems that attack healthy tissue?
That is actually blamed on the hygienic bubble more than weak immune systems. Although not the only cause. Statistics show if you grew up with livestock you're less likely to have IBD. But that didn't work for me.

95% probably think it's perverted after they Googled it :D

No idea. Does the immune system become hyperactive once one is outside the hygienic bubble and is compensating for not having developed a more natural and gradual response to germs?

If exlax is to extreme just disguise harbo sugar free gummy bears as bulk food bought.
Many laughs will be had at the thief's expense.

It's all guess work at this point. It's also probably not one cause. But they are on the rise and affect about 20% of the US.
I do know sometimes mine will ignore a real threat to attack me instead.
And after pneumonia I had tonsillitis on one side for about half a day then about a day later it happened on the other side. I wasn't really sick, just immune systems gone wild.
