Snow Wolf or Hohmwrecker??

So I found both of these mods with about a $7 pride difference and I'm trying to decide which one I should buy.

I will not go over 80W and I plan on using temp control exclusively. Thoughts???

I haven't used the hohmwrecker but have the 1.5 edition snow wolf and personally use that specifically for my nickel Vaping. My Super tank with .1 super tank by Tobecca nickel coils with Rocket man is a wonder.

Might want to also consider the IPV3 Li as well. It's built like a tank, uses a very good Yihi chip, user upgradeable to 200 watts (100j for Ti, 50j for Ni200), and can be found for a reasonable price. Good luck!

Cheers,
Steve

All are good mods, I have all 3, but if you plan on using titanium, I believe only the IPV3 Li does that. If only using nickel then choose any one of them. All perform well and are close in price. One caveat, IPV3 only goes to 50 in nickel mode and the other 2 can crank it higher. Good luck!

I don't have the Snow Wolf or the IPV 3li but I do have the Hohm Wrecker and love it...when it works. :( I got it the 9/18 when ecig had it on sale and it has gone back for warranty repair twice already. VaporCube is the warranty servicer and it is $8 plus shipping each time it went back. They claim mine is the only one that has come back twice and only 7 total but that doesn't help me any. As I said when it works I love it and it is one of my favorite mods. YMMV

The first time about four weeks in the chip went bad I think because the screen looked like a scene from the Matrix and it wouldn't fire. After I got it back, it worked fine for about an hour then I started getting check battery messages. At first I thought my batteries might be shot so I replace them. About 10 minutes later, it started again and continued constantly. It took about 10 days to get it fixed and I just got it back yesterday. So far it is working great so fingers crossed.

Yes and I think it works very well. I also love how quick and easy it is to switch back and forth between power and tc modes.

That's a good price again in the black to go with my orange one. Must...control...shineyitis...:D

That's great to hear. I'll be using Ti, so I'll have to tune it down way low. Probably no chance of using SS 316L on it then.

I really wanted the orange one, but all they have is the black and silver/black special edition. I went with the black because I'm not a fan of the female and male symbols sticking out like that.

Thanks for the reply, at e-cigs price I'm going for the Black and Silver Limited Edition!

I agree but the solid color looks great and provides some good texture for gripping the mod.

So TC mode is only for nickel then? So I could rock my usual Ti builds on it just about 200 degrees less. I was thinking about trying some 316L stainless wire, but that seems like it would be a no go on this mod since it lacks a Ti mode. I know stainless works in regular wattage mode just fine from what I've read. Any thoughts?

TC is nickel only and power mode calls for kanthal or nichrome but I use my crowns in power mode all the time and it works great. My warranty issue with the battery check problem cropped up again but it may be just a certain married pair that are a problem. I'm still in evaluation mode on that.

I've had the Hohm Wrecker now for a while. I got it when ecig first put em on sale, then got a nasty email from the company for pricing it as they did. I got the orange limited edition, it's kinda gaudy, but I like it.

Anyway, I have not used a snow wolf, but I know a guy at a vape shop who liked his, but did have to send it back for repair. It was a V1.

I have an iPV3 Li, a 4, and the Hohm Wrecker for my TC mods. I will say that I've basically ceased using TC on anything but the Hohm Wrecker. I only use Nickel for now so not an issue with me. It fires initially the full 151W to bring you 100 degrees below temp, then you have all 151W to use. It still stops, so watts really just help the ramp up time. I don't know what they use, but I'm almost certain it's not PWM like the YIHI chips. No rattlesnaking, it's just there immediately, and smooth. It's basically become my only TC mod. Just my opinion, but I find the TC is very superior to the YIHI. Both are good chips, IMO, the Hohm Wrecker is better for TC.

You're gonna like it man. I'd never had gotten one if I hadn't been about to purchase an LE80 and saw the sale. For the money, it's a steal. It's built well also. I haven't had a single issue or glitch either. Kinda scared to type that, but I haven't. I consider it a great device. $180-200, fuck no, $80, fuck yeah. I'd say it's worth $100 easy.

Enjoy it, and one thing to remember, it automatically locks resistance, so you need to wake the device when changing attys for it to read the new one properly. Aside from that, which is really just learning a new mods small quirk, it's simple, and works great.

Thanks for your input! My TC experiences this far have been the Evic VT (fucking weak!) and the iPV D2, which has been my main mod lately. I really need more power, as I want to start building claptons as my standard coils, maybe even some fused.

Had a nice one in my Velocity and the Evic just didn't have enough power to ramp it up quickly enough for me. Hohm Wrecker should solve that problem!

I believe it was Ecig.com that got the email telling them they can't sell/advertise the mod that low. The price went up but iirc they put out a code at the same time bringing the price back down to what is was before they raised it lol.

This. I suppose I was a bit unclear on who received the email lol. There's a reddit thread about it, they raised the price to 1,000,000 I'm pretty sure in response, and provided a coupon code to bring it back down. Pretty funny, they had no pricing agreements with the company, so they did right by the customer. They've always done right by me. Ecig.com, that is.

Oh okay. Gotcha. I saw on Hohm Tech's website that they have an "approved" vendors list. Will they honor the warranty if you bought their mod from Ecig.com? I know Hcigar said they wouldn't with the VT200.

VaporCube.com handles the warranty claims for Hohm Tech. With my warranty issues I had to include a receipt for the mod, which was from ecig, and I had no comment or issues with them about it.

Just a tip if your considering a snow wolf. Asmodus does not honor there warranties. I know 6 people who have sent there snow wolf in for repair and snow wolf refused to repair them even when asking to pay for the repairs. My snow wolf stopped working after 3 weeks never dropped . i just went to turn it on when i woke up and it wouldn't. It took 9 weeks to get it back from them and I received nothing but attitude when calling. My Sigelli 150 on the other hand has taken a extreme beating and works great!

Okay so this mod is awesome!!! The chip is amazing, the construction is bomb proof, the buttons are clicky with no rattle, display is awesome, and the spring loaded battery contacts are excellent. Only downside I can think of is ergonomics. This thing is humongous! If they put this chip in a smaller enclosure with the same build quality , I'd buy it (for around $100 or less) in a heartbeat!

Have to agree on the ergonomics as the downside but the rest is great. Have you tried TC yet? Mine seems to be running weak after the check battery fix, probably 60-70 degrees cooler than the same tank on my sig 150 tc. Power mode is fine. I don't remember this issue before that fix.

I've actually only vapes TC on it so far. I'm also using titanium. I find that around 100 degrees less than my iPV D2 in Ti mode is what I like. I don't use nickel anymore so that may not be an accurate comparison. But weak? Not in any capacity.

I'm glad you're liking it @jmoney426 the TC and build quality are what stand out over others for sure. I basically can't vape TC with YIHI chips now. It's fine, it works, but this thing outshines it.

Long story short, due to an approaching birthday, and an incredibly generous mother, I now own a Tugboat DNA 200. Was stopping at a vape shop for some juice, was out helping my mom do shopping and house chores since she has a broken ankle, had to peruse the nice new gear for a moment. She straight up bought me a DNA 200 Tugboat. I was looking at some other nice boxes, less expensive, and she talked me into just getting it. It's a present, but I was floored.

What I'm getting at is, having the DNA since Saturday, and messing with escribe, the chip is incredible. The Hohm Wrecker isn't quite as good, and no firmware updates etc... But "plug and play" the TC feels very similar to the DNA. I think it's partially due to the preheat of the Hohm Wrecker to bring you to temp. The DNA is a bit better, and you can change everything, but it really holds it's own against the DNA respectably.

It's kinda Mac vs. PC in my opinion. That's the analogy that pops in my head. Comparing chips only. The Hohm Wrecker is easy, ready to go, and set up well similar to a Mac. However, it can't be changed (Mac's obviously can but less than a PC.) the DNA is like a brand new top of the line PC, and you can get deep into the thing, I've been doing a lot of learning.

I love em both.

Cliff notes: OP, I'm glad you like the Wrecker... It's a real nice device, and now owning a DNA 200, I can say I will still use the Wrecker. Not quite as nice, but close. They did a great job with the chip. Essay over... Lol.

yes you can use SS in power mode just fine.. SS is just different wire it has similar abilities to Kanthal the major plus of SS is being able to use almost twice the wraps at a similar Ohm readind in theory giving faster ramp up time as well as more area for heating

Its super nice, looks like a fat daddy 510 pad. Very well made. I was worried about LiPo's and escribe, which is why ive been waiting and watching on the DNA 200. I gotta head out, but ill say its close to on par with 2 LGHE2's. I can detail later. Been doing experimenting, am today as well. Ill report back.

Oh, and its about 3-3.5 hours from fully drained to charge. Pass through works, though.

So to elaborate on the LiPo. Hope I'm not thread jacking, since the OP asked. Ive now run the Wrecker and an iPV3 from roughly 8-1:00 or so on HE2's, and the same time frame for the Tugboat. Ive tried my best to use the same attys, and stayed at 60 watts, on Vectors built in the .3-.35 range. A bit of use on a Twisted nickel/kanthal build, and some on a Smok TCT Pro as well. After running each as similar as possible, its pretty on par. Today i pulled my batts at about 12:30 from the Wrecker, they were at 3.79, I dont recall what battery percentage it was. Yesterday, the same time frame for my iPV3, and the batts were around 3.8, so similar. Monday i did the same usage pattern with the DNA's 1200 mah LiPo, and was at about 50%, escribe said 3.85 volts per cell. So, im guessing its a bit less life, but its damn close, and I've not cycled the LiPo too many times. Might improve.

There is a wealth of difference with these batteries, they have an initial drain, but maintain around 3.8 for a while. The battery meter threw me off, and my settings are correct. It just drains after every few pulls. Its deceptive, i usually change batteries around 3.8, so i have to get used to using the LiPo longer. At 10% or so, they are at 3.6 i think. I have it set to cutoff at 3.09, but the meter is stopping me around 3.5. Im pleased, was worried about the percentage going down so fast until i realized what the voltage was. Cells were in perfect resting voltage, and have stayed balanced as well. Id prefer more capacity, but its really plenty, and its a tiny mod by my standards, which is kinda nice. So theres an elaborate answer, hope it helps. Keep enjoying that Wrecker!

Thanks for the detailed response!! No worries about jacking the thread. It was for comparison purposes! Still loving the Wrecker for sure... just have to sell some stuff to get a DNA 200. Narrowed it down to a Tuglyfe or the Hcigar VT200. Choices choices!

Final update...Mine is a total lemon!! Out of warranty now and still getting constant "check battery" messages despite two warranty repair trips at a cost of $28. TC is useless with a cold vape and no flavor even at 580F. Was a total waste of money for me. Sent an email to Hohm Tech and never got a response.:mad: Sure hope others have better luck.

I hear ya. If it weren't a gift, I wouldn't have it. I lucked out. He also gave me one $22 bottle of juice free, so that's kinda a discount. Lol. About 10% if you look at it as such.

The Reuleaux looks pretty nice, though. Was and is definitely on my radar. However, then I'd be buying a few sets of three batteries. That brings it close in price. But replaceable batteries are nice. The pack in this could be replaced, but it's soldered to the board on one of the connections. Someone who could solder could probably replace it easily. I saw a French YouTube review and he took it apart, two screws. Pretty simple and tidy, just would require soldering. Hopefully it lasts long. Not gonna worry.

Man that is really terrible! Not really great PR for Hohm Tech seeing as they're s but of a one trick pony thus far. They really should just send you a new one... or the company that handles their warranty should. The way I see it, your warranty should start fresh once it gets repaired.

@TBCAmor & @jmoney426 I'm glad to hear your Wrecker are working properly because when they do it's a great mod. Mine is a $100 investment headed for the trash bin. After getting the constant "check battery" message again I put in two freshly charged batteries, it showed the startup screen then went dead, no screen, no fire, nothing. I emailed both Hohm Tech a second time and called VaporCube and had to leave a voicemail...got absolutely no response from either one. I will NEVER buy a Hohm Tech product again for any reason and strongly advise against this purchase by anyone else...their customer support is non-existant. I'm so pissed I can't see straight!!!

I certainly would be pissed too. After hearing all this I probably won't be buying another product from Hohm Tech either. My plan is to sell some other things in order to buy a DNA 200 device (if they ever release the escribe software for Mac OS) and keep this one as a back up. That's just some shameful behavior by Hohm Tech and VaporCube. So sorry that happened to you. Makes me wonder if this is happening a lot. You'd think if it was only yours they wouldn't fear losing money since they're only replacing one mod. If they don't answer I can only assume it's because they'd lose a ton of money replacing a lot of mods. Make sense?

Sure makes sense to me, replacing an occasional bad mod is just good business so they are either horrible business people or, as you say fear having to replace a boatload of bad mods. I just ordered a Koopor Plus 200W TC mod to replace this piece of crap. Only $44 with free shipping, does all three wires in TC and I don't have to dink around with an unstable app like my X Cube II. I would like to play around with a DNA 200 device but they are pricey and, like you, need the escribe software for Mac OS.

That sucks man. Hope the new Koopor Plus is nice. I want escribe for Mac, too. I have to use a laptop that lives at my house, that's not mine. Not going to buy windows, I hope they eventually get to the Mac. I say doubtful.
