weird samsung 25r issue

First of all this issue could be any battery I suppose but I've never had this happen. I have a set of 25r batteries always used as a pair for my IPV4. I've never had an issue with them. No idea how many charge cycles they've been through, I've had them for about 6 months but rotate them out with a set of LG's and another 25r pair so they are probably charged/cycled every other day.

The other day I got into my van after a job and headed down the road and started vaping like normal. I vaped earlier that day with no issues. It was a bit cold, not below freezing but cold. My mod felt quite cold to the touch but no biggie. I was vaping around 45W on a .25 coil so nothing crazy. After about 20 minutes I got the "check battery". Battery meter was at about half. I've used this mod and different batteries since late April and never had that issue at the battery halfway point.

Since that day this pair keeps doing the same thing. When it gets just about to halfway I get the "check battery". They work fine until then. This pair has never done that before. The mod doesn't do this with the other sets of batteries that I have.

It did it today so I decided to check them with a meter. Both read right at 3.6 almost exactly the same. It was actually 3.6xx (can't remember to the thousands what it was but they were both close) So I put them on the charger and when they were finished they both read 4.2.

Bad cell? Is there a way I can tell if it's just one of the two or should I just chalk it up to one of them is maybe bad and toss them into the single battery mod pile? They work fine until about the halfway point and just quit.

Every other day / six months? So 90 charges. Seems like a low amount. How are you charging them? 1A? or less or more? It's cold now but did you leave them in a hot van during the Summer?

Remember that even though the manufacturer says 500 charge cycles, that's not a sudden cut-off point. Batteries get weaker from each discharge and charge.

I'd check the batteries voltage after taking them out. If they are about equal (0.1V). You know, it's not a single battery causing the early "check battery".
I know, from my other hobby (R/C Helicopter), during Winter time, I keep the LiPo packs warm (close to the body, or such), otherwise they don't provide the expected flight time.
As for charging current, I try to use the lowest current possible, unless in a hurry, due to putting less stress on the battery. Therefore preventing an early "death" of the battery.

Voltage was the same on each discharged and charged. Just seems weird. Today they were completely warm and same issue so it's confusing. I realize batteries will slowly not hold the same charge but this issue just happened overnight. Confusing as to why. I've still got 2 sets of other 25r batteries, one set practically brand new and a good set of HE4 LG's.

My wife uses the Kanger mini which takes only 1 18650 and she uses my retired vtc4s. Only retired them when I got a dual 18650 mod and wanted married batteries for it. Those vtc4 batteries don't seem to ever die. I'll probably just add that to her pile since they work just fine until about halfway. Never hurts to have spares. They've never gotten hot or been abused. I generally vape anywhere between 35-50W depending on the tank/rda I'm using. Not saying I've never pushed higher wattages just for the heck of it, but it's really really rare. I'm not a cloud chaser, but sometimes......just cuz I can lol

If the batteries were used and drained quickly a number of times, they might of developed a "sag" which means they take longer to bounce back to the set volts/watts (built up internal resistance within the cell itself). If you have a dripper, try them at higher watts and see if it happens quicker, if so, they might be on their way to the recycle bin sooner than later.

I did that to a set of VTC4's with a dripper and a mech. built right up to 30 amps max draw. After a few weeks they would take longer to bounce back and charge, a month after that they were not really usable anymore.

As batteries get older one thing that changes is the internal resistance, which is effectively how much the voltage drops while firing the device from the resting voltage. They'll still hold a charge just fine when measuring them at rest. It sounds like yours shouldn't really be at this point yet but you can speed up the aging of a battery by doing things like storing it in hot or cold temperatures, keeping it in a car, running it at really high current (which can happen if you accidentally short it somehow), running it to a very low voltage, overcharging it, etc...so maybe you did one or more of those things. The good thing is 25R's are cheap

This makes the most sense. Already bought another set This pair is still good until they reach the halfway point. They still "work" then but I can't take very long pulls at all and can't chain vape with them. If I wait a couple seconds between puffs and don't take long pulls they are fine but if I hold the button to long they die and I get the "check battery". So based on what you said about the voltage drop this makes sense. I do agree they should have lasted longer. Oh well, not the end of the world.
