Hi all! I'm a complete newb to vaping and have some questions. I apologize in advance if this is really long...and I appreciate any help/advice.

Quick intro - 20ish year smoker, roughly a pack/day, the last 10 years were Marlboro ultra lights. Got really tired of the hubs complaining about it constantly so around the first of November while out for groceries I stopped by a strip-mall type smoke shop (not a vape specialty store) to check it out. Fortunately there was a customer in there who was very knowledgeable and helped me get what I think is a good set up. I haven't had (nor wanted) a cig in over 2 weeks, yay! So...here's where my q's come in...

I have an istick TC 40w with a nautilus mini aspire tank. (If I butchered that it's because yup, newb, and totally clueless.) I got some tobacco flavored juice and the nautilus coil replacements. A few days in without a cig the tobacco juice starts to taste like ass so I go back to him and get some SpaceJam Venus. That stuff is awesome. But I wanted to experiment with flavors since my taste buds are waking up after all these years so I ordered more. Not a fan of one I just got in...so can I cut it with other flavors because I don't want to waste 30ml's? It's too fruity and coyingly sweet...any advice on a good flavor to cut it with?

Next, I think my coil is clogged. Does that happen? I've had one burn out so I know that happens and how it changes the flavor/means it's time for a new one. But I don't know if it's normal for them to clog...I just feel like I'm having to draw much harder than a week ago when the coil was brand new. If it's clogged do I just replace it or can I rinse it and keep using it?

Finally I'm thinking about getting an ego startup kit so I have a second unit for different flavors or if I forget to charge my istick (like last night so this morning I was stuck to the charger for a bit). Is this a good secondary unit? Overall I like my istick (except I can't figure out the TC so I'm just in v/w mode) so I'd like something else easy-to-use like this.

Please talk to me like I have no idea what you're talking about because I get pretty lost with all the advanced stuff! Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum and GOOD JOB FOR QUITTING ANALOGS :)

As too the combining the juice, yes you can nothing is stopping you. When and if you do just let it sit around for a few days and meld (also dont forget to mix it very well). But also be careful some do get some funky flavor combinations. Sometimes you can get some really epic ones. So start in some smaller batches unless you find something that you like.

Coils can become clogged and wont wick properly if the juice you have is heavy on the VG. This makes it much thicker and something like the Nautilus really cant wick that properly. Also most coils dont last much more then a week so it could be that its that coils time. Look in the coil and if you see any black or darkness on the cotton or if your getting a very burnt/dry taste then ditch the coil and get another one. you really cant rinse out cotton. If your not sure post a pic of the inside of it on here.

The mod you have is fin, if you want more then one flavor at a time the easiest thing to do it to pick up a couple more tanks (this is what most people do). Just make sure they have the 5/10 thread so it fits on your mod. I wouldn't get an ego kit, ive had some sketchy experiences with them.

The Temp control is deigned to be used with Ni200 (nickle) or Ti (titanium) coils. There are tanks that you can buy these coils for use with TC mode. The Nautilus tanks dont have these so you are unable to use that function (you'll get some really crappy vape from it with out the Ni or Ti coils). Thats a little more advanced so id keep with the VW mode, still get some great flavor out of it.

What wattage are you hitting the nautilus at? I believe that they only have a coil that supports high wattage? I may be wrong tho. Look at the OHM of the coil and let me know

Thanks so much for your response and all the info. About an hour after posting I started getting the burnt flavor so the coil was shot. Put in a new one and kept getting a "atomizer too short" message so got another coil and that one seems to be working fine. Is it pretty common to have some faulty coils because that's a bummer if 1/5 pack is a dud :-/

When I was replacing the coils I realized it wasn't nickle or titanium so I was annoyed thinking the guy hadn't sold me the right pack for my tank...but if I'm understanding you right the nautilus mini doesn't have a Tc option? So if I want to experience that I need a tank that supports it? Any suggestions?

Getting an extra tank or two is a good idea, but it doesn't help if my mod is dead like this morning. Any suggestions on a good, affordable, similar to what I have and easy-to-use back up mod?

I've been playing with the wattage but I think I like it most fairly low...like 9-11w. My coils say 1.8ohm (4.2-5.0v) and my favorite juice so far was the Space Jam Venus 50/50. I went a little crazy and ordered a bunch and so far the other two I've tried - Rainbow Custard 30pg/70vg and Decadence 40pg/60vg are not favorites. They seem smooth and fine, but the flavor is not for me. So I'm afraid to open the other new flavors.

Any more advice or ideas would be awesome, thanks so much!

Hmm thats strange. Ive never had a dead coil. You sure you had the coil tightened all the way and the tank tightened to the mod? If theres a loose connection somewhere thats what those error messages usually mean. Personally ive never had a dud but anything can happen lol.

Yah the tank you have doesnt support any form of TC as far as i know. And id hold off for a little bit before doing the TC, things can get a little confusing. Ive been vaping for 2ish years now and only am starting on TC. But if you really want to try it you could get a Kanger Subtank Mini and get a pack of the Ni200 coils. Or the Uwell crown. Plus with those tanks you have the option to toss in a coil with a lower ohm, called sub-ohm coils. You can get great flavor out of those :)

For an extra mod id get the Subox mini kit (comes with a Subtank mini) or the Evic VTC mini (also has Temp contol). The only thing with those is 1 they are a little better/nicer the the 40wTC so that will become your back up lol and 2 they require an 18650 battery, no built in like with what you have.

For the wattage keep it low with a 1.93 ohm coil. You'll run through them very fast at high wattages. Even 12 wats may be a little high tbh.

That's good news about the coils and a dud not being common...it's very possible (okay, likely ;)) that it was user error. Now...to dig that one out of the trash or not...lol

And thanks for the tip to stick with just v/w for a bit. It's working and not overly complicated so I think I will do that. I'll look into the Subox and Evic for another mod for now. But if after 2 years you just upgraded to the evic I'm thinking I should probably go with the subox at this point. Is the 18650 battery rechargeable?

Is it normal that my coil says 1.8ohm but my mod is saying 1.93? Do I need to adjust something or is that within normal limits?

Decadence is growing on me a little. I just hate to keep wasting money on ones that I don't like. I didn't expect it to be so easy to quit smoking so I got ahead of myself with ordering #alltheflavors oops!

Yah it is probably user error ;) no biggie tho. It happens all the time :)

Thats the nice thing about the Evic and Subox mini. They have a pass through charging so you dont need to go for and spend extra $$ on a charger, so yes they are rechargeable. At this point id say go for the Evic because it has up-gradable firmware and will probably last you a bit longer because of that. Plus it has TC so when you feel ready for that you can jump right in. Unless the subox looks better to you lol.

Coils do have some variance especially with lower end ones like with the natulus mini coils. Sometime i have kanger coils that reat at 0.63 ohms instead of 0.5 ohms which they should be. Sometimes tho they do start to untwist so try re- tightening the coil and see if that helps. So normal limits but try adjusting it.

Trust me i did the same thing when i started... and still do lol. I enjoy this much more then cigarettes. I regularly over spend and buy too much juice. But like with anything you get some winners and sometimes you get flops. For me my go to is suicide bunny and red rock vapor. Very rarly ive had bad juices from them.... actually never from bunny lol. Oh and a pro tip..... avoid chocolate flavored vapes they tend to be more misses then hits for most people (me included).

This is where i got my Evic from btw... Cheap also.

Also sometime the ohm sensor in mods are not the most accurate things in the world. so that can be it also. My subox tends to judge a little on the high side

Wow, those prices are great! How is the shipping to the US (east coast)?

Why did you go for the evic mini rather than the VT? I'm guessing it was for the TC option on the mini but just wanted to check. I'm on review overload trying to choose between the two. I like that the subox comes with the RBA deck (did I butcher that, lol) so maybe I can build my own coils and save some money there. I would of course research that before attempting. It also looks like the replacement occ coils are more affordable with the subox (slightly). The occ coils are NOT for TC vaping, correct? And the subox does not have a TC mode, right? But it comes with the tank that supports TC so I could put it on my istick if I want to go TC?

I am preferring straight lung hits, so I think from the reviews I've seen I may like the subohm option. Do both mods support that?

I've probably done so much research and review watching that now I've completely confused myself :)

And thanks for the tip on chocolate. I found several reviews about how it can be bitter - of course after I'd ordered decadence. It definitely has an unpleasant, bitter note, especially on exhale. I mixed it with some of the rainbow custard that is too sweet and this morning (after that sat all night) it's actually not bad at all. The sweet cuts the bitter nicely...just a slight weird aftertaste when I exhale through my nose.

One more question - which battery? Or any specific brands to avoid? Specifics like volt, wattage, and mAh that are ideal?

After more research (I'm an overanalyzer ;) ) I've decided to go with the eVic mini. But I would like to order replacement coils (not for TC) at the same time since it looks like the starter kit only comes with the Ni200 and Ti coils. Where do I find the NOT TC ones for the atomizer that comes with the whole start up kit? Or...should I get a different atomizer for the mod (like you had mentioned the uwell or the subox)? I think I want to just run it in variable wattage mode for a while before taking the leap to TC like you suggested.

Thank you again so much for all your help and input @drackeo !

Great. I ordered the Evic VTC mini form them on a Sunday afternoon, and got it that Friday. So not half bad at all. BTW im located in NY and there US warehouse is in Cally so thats really about average, little faster then average tbh.

Id go with the VTC mini over the VT because of the Temp Control option but also it can fire up to 75watts and has the replaceable battery. None of wich the VT has. Plus the finish on the VTC mini is much better and much more durable. The subtank mini (comes with the subox kit) is really nice tbh. The RBA deck is a great value add also. I personally only use it for my subtank, i dont buy any coils for it. The OCC coils are not for TC vaping unless you get a pack the the ni200 coils (so you do have the option if you use a mod with TC). The subox does not have any TC at all, but it comes with the option to, so the ni200 coils will work with the TC for your istick.

Subohm is great. Love the flavor and clouds. Its great lol. And yes both the mods support subohm. Your istick can do subohm also. The thing is you need to look at the minimum supported ohmage. I know the subox can only fire down it 0.3. And the VTC mini depends on the mode. Read up on the manufacturers websites for the specifics. The Subtank comes with a 0.5 ohm coil and the stock coil for the RBA deck is a 0.5ohm also.

With any coil, especially if its organic cotton (most are), prime the coil.

One more question - which battery? Or any specific brands to avoid? Specifics like volt, wattage, and mAh that are ideal?

As far as batteries go id get a minimum of 2. One in the mod and a spare for just in case. Specific models to get id go with the Samsung 25r (blue), Samsung 25r5 (green), or the LG HE4 (yellow). All of those will work. Personally i have 2 pairs (4 total) of the blue 25r's. I charge them using the pass-through charging built in the Subox and the Evic VTC mini at night. Tho with these batteries defiantly DO NOT charge them overnight, it really weekends them which can be dangerous with Subohm vaping.

If you wana go for subohm i say go for it, just read up about subohm safety first. Really nothing hard or bad and most of it is common sense. As far as battery safety, the ones i listed above will meet the requirements for most regulated mods.

Personally i havent herd great things about the EGO One Mega that comes with the VTC mini so i might just go and snagg the subtank mini or the uwell crown tank. The crown comes with 1 ni200 coil for TC vaping (and 2 non tc, regular stainless steel coils) , but the Subtank comes with an RBA deck.

Oh also a cool thing about the VTC mini is that it has Stainless Steel temp control so you can use the Evic in wattage mode and TC mode with the regular stock coils.

Only thing is if your using Efun.top make sure its US.EFUN.TOP not the www.efun.top. Other wise it will not ship from the US warehouse and youll be TOL with shipping.

When it gives you the option click the US option.

So those coils you linked will work, you will just be waiting FOREVER on the shipping. The global (www.) ships from China.

Thanks. Im still currently making it but all the sites i have listed on it are ones I"ve ordered from and are good and trustworthy. The bottom is mostly my wish list type stuff tho lol.

Thank you! I just ordered the evic mini, a crown tank and the subox mini...and I need to place my order for the bunny juice...I have a problem lol:p

One last question (for now)...I used the link you sent for the evic mini and even double checked that it was us.efun before ordering. I used my PayPal account to pay and it's paid to Chinese characters - please tell me I didn't order it from China and will be waiting months?!?

I'm pretty sure the US box was checked...I didn't uncheck it so fingers crossed. And I wish all vendors took PP - I have a stash of play $$ there so then the hubs wouldn't know how much I'm dumping on this new "gonna save us so much money by not spending $5/pack on cigs" habit...oopsie!

And I knew I would mess something up - I only got the kanger mini tank, not the subox. I got black since I got the black evic. I got the crown and some replacement coils from the link you sent I think. I ordered from several different sites so will double check that and let you know. The coils I got were a great price too. But I'm hoping I can figure out the RBA with the kanger mini so I can save on replacement coils at least.

Ecig.com is where I got the crown. It was $22. I got a 4 pack of non-TC (what is the technical name for this, kanthol?) replacement coils for $7.99 and a 5 pack for my nautilus mini for $9.99 (I paid my smoke shop guy $15 last week so that was a great deal I think).

No joke same lol. He smoke also? Get him to try vaping if he does lol :p :) It will cost a bit in the beginning but when you find something that works it gets much cheaper lol. A month i spend like 1/4 on juice and hardware as much as i would on death sticks (there something like $10 a pack by me xp)

The Subtank mini is only the tank. The Subox mini is the mod. The subox mini kit it the tank + the mod. They do need to get there naming down a little more, not your fault it can get confusing lol. Theres plenty of YouTube vids on different build in the RBA deck of the subtank mini. stick simple tho not a lot of room and can be annoying yourfirst time :) Oh and also the screw thats on the side (youll know when you see it) dont take it all the way out, only loosen it. That things a bitch to loose (ive done it 2 times now oopsies lol)

I got my crown from the same place and in black also lol. The coil packs are back? Ill have to order some also then lol. Usually youd be right with the Kanthal, but the crown uses stainless steel for its coils lol. Also if you see something thats marketed as A1... Thats Kanthal also. But yah AMAZING deal on everything you got :) The crown usually costs like $35ish after shipping most places.

He does not smoke, which is why he has complained about it for years. I don't blame him...I got pneumonia last winter and almost had to be hospitalized, plus now when I smell cigs I totally understand how bad I smelled. He's really happy I'm not stinky anymore, and I already feel like I have more energy which he likes too. Saving money is (or will be) an added bonus once I get settled down on the ordering!

And thanks for the tip on the screw. Knowing me I will watch about eleventy billion instructional videos before jumping into that ;)

The vocabulary makes sense - subBOX is the box/mod, subTANK is the tank. I just got them mixed up in my excitement to share what all I had ordered, lol!

I will probably have a hard time with the kanthol vs ss vs Ni vs Ti and so on. Can you use Ni or Ti coils in variable wattage mode? Or only in the TC with the corresponding setting? ***the more we chat the more questions I will probably come up with, lol***

With the crown coils.... what ohm did you order?

This I just took a guess on. Hopefully I did okay. They had 1.2, 0.5, or 0.25 available and I'm pretty sure I got 0.5 (my order confirmation doesn't say). It seemed like that was what most of the YouTube reviewers were using :-/

0.5 is a safe bet and that lands you solidly in the subohm category :) The most common for people who use tanks and not RDAs (slightly more advanced lol)

Hey better to smell like fruit and sweets and things then ciggs always lol. One plus is that every day you stay away from the cigs the better youll feel. You start to realize how shitty you felt before hand. Also nothing beets walking out side on a fall morning and being able to actually really smell and taste the air again. I do it every morning now personally :)

Most of them dont say that with the screw, thats just something i learned from loosing it so often xD lol

Kanthal/ A1 and SS are good to use in power/wattage mode (what you've been using). Youll get a great vape out of that. But if you try to use Ni200 for Ti in anything but temp control mode you'll probably be disappointed. you can do it but it wont be great (thin clouds weak flavor). Most mods wont even let you use a TC coil in power mode, they kinda flip out lol.

Keep the questions rolling lol, im just glad to help! Didnt have this when i first started and that made the beginning rough lol

Oh also, when vaping, especially at low ohms high watts or chain vaping, make sure to drink more water then you normally would. Contrary to what some people (they are in the minority) believe, it can accelerate the process of dehydration. Remember feeling thirsty is slight to mild dehydration.

Also fun fact ciggs did that too, just never realized it lol
