You would think Western cultures would be intelligent enough to realize that the media is nothing more than a tool created by the elite,controled by the elite to sell people shit that is bad for them including selling ideas.

15-year (former) media guy here. There's a bit more to it than elitist ownership. You have herds of employees wanting to create "compelling" content. What you end up with is a very limited set of ideas... all contrived, skewed and devoid of perspective.
Vince's thread title here is a perfect example of what the media would do with a story on Canadian vaping. A question like that draws people in (nice work Vince). But in real life, the answer to a question in the lead is usually "no."
Even the media itself will say liberal/conservative bias is a core problem with the media. It's not. Liberal and conservative slants are just marketing gimmicks. What they both churn out is the same garbage that makes you think the world is an awful place. Their messages are just different.
I've written dozens of custom pages on the media for new employees. Mostly it's so they know what the rules are before they start breaking them. Topics include the numbers the media uses/doesn't use, the focus on worthless crap like celeb gossip, the reason no one adds "the other side" to stories, listicles, social media, etc.
Bleh.
