My kbox came back to life along with the battery that was tragically murdered . went and did a quick install of a coil I had previously wrapped fired it a couple times to compress coil a bit then suddenly the battery light started flashing tried one more time . did the same thing. So there I am giving this mod a stupid look as I try to think of what the issue could possibly be ...... And here comes the smoke .... From the display screen not the atty ... And then one second later ... Smoke protrudes from behind the USB port
Luckily I had the battery cover off and my pliers in hand
So I smacked the battery out of the compartment and tossed the mod across the room
At this point I'm thinking of ways to put out an electrical fire considering my available resources
Luckily it didn't explode
Not did it produce a flame
Just thought I'd share that feel free to give me input or even to jus laugh an move on .... Just had to tell someone

pretty sure the mod would stop frying once you got the battery out. what kind of battery you have in there?

Is this what happens when you continue to use a battery that has been damaged?

How did you damage it in the first place, and what did it read at when you went to recharge it?

Don't recall you going into specifics of the murder in your previous thread. Now I'm even more curious how the killing took place, what the damage was, and why you decided to try bringing it back from the dead.

Efest purple

It sounds like it was damaged, and you knew it was damaged and went ahead and tried to continue to use it.

What was the event that led to the damage, and what did it read at when you first put it on the charger?

The battery was dead when I first put it on the charger
After charging I put it in and heated up my coil to anneal the kanthal and it heated up fine for the first two or three fires the when I would go to fire it nothing would happen so then I looked at the screen the battery read full then I hit the fire button then the display blinked empty a few times then went back to normal then I hit the fire button again
Same thing
At that point I was thinking wat could be going wrong and right about then the smoke started coming from the displat

How was it damaged THE FIRST TIME you fried the battery and why did you think it was okay to recharge and continue to use? Did you not know that you fried the battery? What amps did it read at?

The first time it was killed because I tried to use it for my smok tfv4 mini with the sextuple coil and at that time it just stopped working nothing burnt or anything and when I got my efest charger one of the features was that it could take a dead battery and make it hold a charge and that's exactly what it did. At first the battery read 0.0v then a couple hours later it was up to 4.10

Wrapping 10A batteries with 35A labels is my beef with them. Not saying that's what you have but I will not deal with a company that does that.

I've heard good and bad things about efest
What's your beef with them?

They don't manufacture batteries - they buy "seconds," or castoffs from actual manufacturers, then put wrappers with fake specs on them and mark up the price. So you're paying more for a lower-quality battery that may not even be safe for your application than you would for a top-rate cell from a legitimate manufacturer. I feel the same way about any fake battery company that overcharges for questionable cells while posting fake specs that could legitimately put people in danger that trust them.

Yes, there was a thread on them doing exactly that that was active on here earlier today...

Also, if your battery ever got too hot to touch or started smoking, you can't use it any more. Period. No debate on this one - if you attempt to use it again you're not only a danger to yourself but anyone in the same building as you.

Good deal - I read this...
My kbox came back to life along with the battery that was tragically murdered...
...and I figured that maybe you'd continued attempting to use a fried battery. Not trying to be a dick, just want to come across as clearly as I can that battery safety is probably the most important aspect of vaping, which is why I hate the rewrappers like Efest so much...

No when the battery first died it didn't snow is get overly hot but my efest charger claims it could recharge a fully dead battery
Then I tried it and smoked my box

You mentioned this earlier and I forgot to reply...

Of the Big 3 (Efest, Nitecore, Xtar), I thought only Xtar had a recovery function.
I'm fairly sure my Luc4 doesn't and I doubt the Nitecores do either.

If it's not done right... it's a bad day all around.

If you haven't discarded the battery yet, get that thing out of the house and gone.

Once a battery has been over discharged or is damaged in any way, get rid of it. It's not worth possible damage to your house or your person for a $5 battery.

I'm sure your charger is fine but some things just shouldn't be brought back to life. Think of Frankenstein.
If a cell will not hold a charge or if it has been discharged too far (don't run your mod till theres not a drop of juice left in the tank), they are better off being allowed to die in a graceful way.

It bears repeating:
If your battery has been discharged below what a charger can charge it without using some type of recovery function - THROW IT AWAY (recycle it really).

Another thing I've been reading too frequently lately is: I have a 35amp, 3000mah, 18650. That does not exist, if a company is labeling their batteries in such a manner - DO NOT BUY IT!
As constant current goes up (20 amp-30amp), capacity goes down (mah 3000-1850). That I know of, the highest constant current battery available (18650) is 30amps. The thing is, to increase constant current you have to change battery chemistry which will give you less capacity (mah). There is no free ride or magic here. It's a give and take between discharge rate and capacity.
There are some unsavory companies out there that play fast and loose with their specs trying to lure buyers to buy there crap!

I myself use Samsung 25R's. They are rated at 20amp constant current and 2500mah. Do yourself a favor and stick with one of the big 3: Samsung, LG, and Sony. Stay safe!

Cheers,
Steve

Here's a good article/chart that lists the Constant Discharge and capacity of most of the batteries we would want to use:
Best 18650 Battery
You will notice as constant discharge current goes up, capacity goes down (mah). One other thing worth noting - The highest constant discharge of all the available 18650's is 30amps @ 2000mah

Cheers,
Steve

From that article. (I have to image there's way more than this.)

The following companies rewrap cells:
 • Efest
 • Vamped
 • Keeppower
 • AW
 • Ultrafire
 • Trustfire
 • Orbtronic
 • EH
 • GTL
 • Robiton
 • Imren
 • MXJO
 • Nitecore
 • AWT
 • EagleTac
 • AmpMax
 • Basen
 • BattEnergy
 • EnerPower
 • Fenix
 • Intl-outdoor
 • Redilast
 • Xtar

Mmm... purple.
Efest 35a 3000mAh 3.7v 18650 IMR.jpg

This is one of the reasons I'm leaning toward getting Milwaukee when I have to upgrade cordless power tools. They haven't caved and rebranded their 18v tools/batts as 20v, like Dewalt, etc.

I've seen the 20v claims, wondered about those...I've got too much into my Depot house-branded Milwaukees (Ryobi) to consider switching systems, but I've been downright astounded at their durability...until I finally killed my 3 year-old drill and had one of my helpers break the battery tab on my sawzall in the same week. With plenty of hours into research, if I were to throw out my $2000 set and replace it with a $5000 set, that set would probably be Milwaukee...just wish they made a battery-powered skil saw for grown-ups.

Lol I have a dewalt 20 v set . I know its only 20 when fully charged but I still love it
Only thing is . don't get the 5 or 6 tool set because the recip. Saw and I think the circular saw in that set is junk . the individual tools are a different model number than the ones in the set and are made waaay better ... Sad how many reputable companies are falling for that dumb corporate .mentality of "how cheap and how fast can we pump out x amount of goods/services"

@ademel692 I've used the Dewalt drills... 20v and older 18v. Nice power/quieter than the crap I use. Their marketing thing with the 20v just irritates me, and I've run into design problems with some of their stuff. Getting hard to trust them, and as soon as I plunk down cash for the batteries and charger, it's committing to the cordless brand.

I've seen the 20v claims, wondered about those...
It's disheartening, actually. One did it and they all followed suit. Same stupid batteries, they just use different spec numbers to justify the 20v claim. There was actually a minute there where I thought Milwaukee was behind the times and likely underpowered.

There's something about getting messed with when you're using a product for your livelihood. I honestly don't think it's presumptuous to expect a little more from companies in that respect... Dewalt lying to me about their 20v claims and their reasons for switching to a new type of battery... Ryobi customer service essentially telling me to go to hell... and condescending HD corporate turds treating me like a child. Maybe compare it to an Efest field rep trying to pull one over on a genius-type B&M vape shop owner.

(Funny thing about HD... We've TRIED to stop giving them money. So many of our clients are tied to them, and we end up going back out of necessity. It's insane.)

Yea its definitely a commitment once you have the batteries and charger(s)
I use my set to make a living and I've noticed they're basically forcing everyone into the 20 v max as I see less and less 18v dewalt tools available without having to special order

Is this what happens when you continue to use a battery that has been damaged?
How did you damage it in the first place, and what did it read at when you went to recharge it?

I'm really new to all this, so I don't quite understand what happened and how it completely discharged the battery down to zero. Too high a current asked from the battery?

I think I understand that the battery was damaged, recharged, and when attempted to use again it sounds like it vented. But I don't know nothing.

I can't believe people still buy efest.
There 1,000's upon 1,000's of threads all over on Efest most of the people still buying them are newer to vaping. If you have more than 1 year of vaping experience and still buy them then you're either vaping at lower wattage, or you're just clueless.

I get that there are people that get duped - hell, I've got a handful of Efests powering my flashlights. What I don't understand are experienced users who serve as apologists for re-wrappers and tell others it's okay to overpay for sub-par cells...

I don't know if it's a case of being duped or just lack of knowledge. But yeah once you know better then it's time to get serious.Especially when it comes to batteries.
I'd rather see somebody vape DeKang then using Efest cells.
You can quote me on that too.

Mostly lack of knowledge and what's available at most vape shops. And the majority of vapers really don't require an extremely high draw battery.

For me, it wouldn't matter and I only need a box mod for the replaceable battery thing it has going on. I draw around 1.8 A maximum, so even the worst battery would fit the bill.

Me? I use Samsung 30Q and LG HG2 batteries. They provide an absolutely incredible safety margin and they were actually cheaper than the rewraps.

Bingo on the authentics being cheaper than rewraps. 25r or he2, plain label $7. Rewrap with pretty label $14, and often times as stated the rewraps are of the seconds and lower amp batteries with way over exaggerated specs.
This topic unfortunately comes up quite often because 1-shops only care about $$ and only sell rewraps that look better on paper and 2- some folks assume higher price means better quality.
thankfully nothing crazy happened and it's a lesson learned, shit happens, just glad no one got hurt.
