I am a complete newbie to DIY eliquids - I've been reading the forum and it seems to me that many newbie diyers seem to have less than satisfactory results in the beginning due to the learning curve. I wanted to try to find a way to avoid this - I know myself, if I screw it up in the beginning I probably will be way less inclined to mess with mixing stuff myself, also its kind of sucky to waste money and fail at something.

I went looking around and I found a kit. I am less than thrilled that I cannot get it in 100% VG as that is what I usually vape due to the fact that I get migraine headaches and PG is just really no bueno for me. I decided to chance it though and bought the kit anyway... Has anybody else tried one of these kits or a kit from another vendor? Can you share your experience(s)?

Kits are a good way to start, unless you're picky about how you want to make you e-liquid. I made my own "kit" from a few websites. Waiting for it all to come together was not fun, but I got everything I wanted.
To have 100% VG mix, you will need your nicotine and all flavors to be VG based too. Most flavors are PG based.

I don't shop at that site. You may want to pickup some 100% VG based nicotine at NudeNicotine.com. I think their sale is still on. Then you can still use your flavorings even though they are PG based, which will be a tiny amount of PG in your mix.
I hope this helps.

To be honest. Prior to my first purchased I thought about the kits, but I saw a lot posts saying there will always be stuff in there that you may not use.

Then at the last second I decided to go the mixing by weight. An acceptable scale with cost 20-30 dollars US. But you can mix straight into the bottles. No real needs for beakers and pipets and so on. So the cost is about the same (I was going to buy a big kit$ for mixing so it was actually cheaper).

I must say that I did have some bad first mixes. But it was a me thing and experience thing. Get past those first few stumbles and when you have you first adv you'll be happy. After that you'll have your next yay moment when you share you juice with friends and they like it to.

Yeah kits are not the way to go IMHO. And loranns is not the way to go in anyone's opinion. You'll be very much so let down. And TFA won't be much better (although better than loranns or fw)

Most people here are fans of Flavour Art (FA), though I believe Capella's (CAP) and TFA also have some useful flavors. There are a handful of others like Medicine Flower that I haven't experimented with yet, though Lorann and Flavor West are pretty poorly received - I got a handful of FW flavors on my first order and only found a couple of them useful in any way.

Flavor West has some pretty good flavors like Yellow Cake, Dulce De Leche, Natural Butterscotch and the whipped cream is pretty good. Lorran has a great watermelon if you like the jolly rancher type.

All the brands have flavors that beat the others, sticking with only one brand really limits your choices.

What brands do you recommend?
I admit, I'm a FA fan. Don't consider myself a FA elitist as some have have referred to FA users, I do use some FW, TFA, Caps, Han, and INW. FA flavors have been true to the name on the bottle. The others do have essentials but overall FA is going to give you best results. For example FA Banana tastes like Banana, TFA Ripe Banana tastes like banana runts. I started with TFA and FW and had initial failures (this will happen, don't be discouraged). I'm not saying don't use other flavoring (except loranns, wouldn't even bother) just FA will give you on point flavor to the name on the bottle.

I seem to remember my mom using Lorann's products in her cooking sometimes.

Yup and that's where they belong! Loranns openly states their flavors are not for vaping, but cooking and candy making
