I knew it was coming. Our economy is tanking because coal companies are closing left and right. Our public employees insurance is slashing benefits and raising fees ( even still, it's cheaper than private insurance I guess ), state employee salaries are some of the lowest in the nation - no raises in years, not even a tiny one. So to bump revenue, our lame duck governor has proposed an extra 45 cent ciggarette tax, a 6 percent cell phone bill tax, and a special tax on e liquids. I've been waiting for that one. No word on the amount. I suppose I'll have to get more into DIY. I suppose I shouldn't bitch too much because it's probably not going to be close to the rate at which they tax cigs, gasoline and alcohol but everything's going up but my paycheck for the last I don't know how many years in a row. Vent over now...
Any states represented here that already tax eliquid above the normal sales tax? If so, how much?

yyou can alwas drive over to cumberland and get juice at maddcatts depending on what part of WV you are in
Unfortunately, I'd spend more in gas than by sucking it up and paying the tax...which I guess I'm going to have to do. Cumberland is hours away.

I checked out Madcatt's website. The Celestial Bodies flavor sounds pretty good.

Cook county IL, Home of Chicago.

At midnight tonight, a $20 30ml bottle of ejuice will cost $92.

That's what I'm reading. But I don't see how in the hell they can be doing that. But then again, it's Chicago.

This was the news from there today. Regarding tobacco.

In Maryland Montgomery county enacted a thirty percent tax on all vape products, the District of Columbia 69%. So I jumped on learning to making my own juice a while ago.

Well, Maryland and DC are close by. I hope WV doesn't look at them as an example. This really is a broke ass state right now, but I really hope that tax doesn't go. And if it does, I hope it's reasonable.

Time to learn some DIY. You'll recover every penny invested, 10 fold and more.

I've vaped less than $15 worth of juice in the past month. I average 10-15ml a day ;)

If I payed retail at my local B&M, that would be about $250+

Yeah, I've dabbled a bit in DIY, but I'm going to have to get more serious with it. I haven't come up with anything mind blowing yet, but I can mix something vapeable. My problem is, I love sweet stuff. I need to figure out how to use stevia.

I've used ethyl maltol at 1 drop per 30ml. Which seems super sweet to me. You might give that a try.

Personally I'm cutting it back to 1 drop per 120ml, if I ever use it again.

At Midnight Friday 1/15/2016, The black market for ejuice starts.

Chicago and Cook county would rather keep people smoking and dying early so the state of Illinois can pay off their Tobacco Settlement bonds. And fund a school system that is near collapse, and pay for all the political activity, police misconduct and brutality, and so much more.

That's why a slice of Pizza and a Coke is about the equivalent of 1 hour of minimum wage work.

The extra tobacco tax here is supposed to go towards Public Employees Insurance Agency. To avoid the cutting of benefits and increasing co pays. I will believe that when I see it. No clue where the vape tax would go. Here, at least, most things are reasonably priced if you're looking at groceries and fast food, etc...compared to some other places. For now.

Groceries and staples like oil, sugar, flour, and meat/veggies are a political 3rd rail. Allow them to go up too much and you have a political mess that can lead to political power changes. Taxes on tobacco rarely go to the area they are intended for. The temptation is too great for politicians to re-jigger the allocation to suit their political agenda's, besides, Tobacco Bonds are still a huge reason the state and city need people to keep smoking. Vape taxes will simply be allocated "for the children" in education and such, but the kids and school system will see very little of that money, if any because the state is playing pork barrel politics and will direct the money where it will make the most political hay for the legislators. Always been that way.

They actually repealed the food tax here in increments. Fast food and whatever is deemed non essential is taxed at the standard amount (6%), but other items are not taxed. I thought they never should have done that. The 6 dollars I paid on a 100 dollars worth of groceries was never a big issue for me. And it was a fair tax that was applied pretty evenly. The food tax repeal was a feel good thing that cost the state a lot of revenue.

According to the actual ordinance (http://www.cityofchicago.org/conten...ionsandReports/LiquidNicotineFloorTaxFAQs.pdf)

"The tax shall be collected by wholesalers who sell liquid nicotine products to retailers located in the City. The retailer shall in turn collect the tax from the retail purchaser."

Evidently the retail stores are supposed to pay the tax 1) when they buy their product and 2) on their current inventory as of Dec. 31st, 2015.

"I am a retailer located in the City. Do I need to pay tax on the inventory I have on hand as of the effective date of the tax?

Yes, inventory should be performed by the end of business on Thursday, December 31, 2015. To be considered timely, the floor tax return, site schedules, and payment made payable to the City of Chicago are to be returned by mail and postmarked on or before Monday, January 25, 2016."

If my store were in Chicago, I would already be out of business.

And, as an added bonus, if I'm a store that doesn't sell eliquid...

"What if I don’t sell liquid nicotine products?

You are still required to file the Floor Tax Return indicating $0.00 tax due."
