hi there.

there is a local competition coming together for local builders. there will be three rounds of judging.

1) customer vote on appearances (RDA and coils/no cotton)
2) cloud comp
3) final selection by a panel of judges

what would be thoughts for the best RDA for this comp?

i'll be looking for a large build area, big wiring holes or large screw down areas for wire. it has to be able to hold a large flat style coil (Alien, Staple, Cat Track, etc)
it has to be able to push a big cloud. it would really suck to make it to the second round, for my coils only to fart.
i'll worry about the third round if it ever happens. i'm thinking a rubber nose and balloon animals......

so that is everyone''s thoughts on the best comp RDA?

thnx :)

Velocity RDA or Double Vision, or a Double Vision with Trinity Glass Topcap for even better results. Has more airflow AND it looks awesome, plus you can show your build without removing the cap.

I would build a Cat Track Coil and Stage it with 24g for faster ramp up.
2 x 22N80/26g N80 Fused Clapton then Flatten it, then Stage with the 24g. This will give you great surface area, faster ramp up and with the airflow of the DV or Velocity it would be a great competing setup.

This is my build that got 2nd place in NH a month or 2 ago on a Tube mod...They changed the rules and I didnt know that and only had the tube while others were using DNA200's/Snw Wolfs and other high powered regs....I still came in 2nd on a tube with this build..

The Middle Tube and RDA is what I used in the Comp, a Copper SMPL and TM RDA

i already have a Velocity and am not keen on twisting the legs to screw them down (side lock). i am more in favour of the top down screws for the cleaner finish (i had just told the FHO that a comp RDA would run me $30. that just doubled with the double vision, lol)

making it to the top three truly would make my day. as a kid, my hockey stick was the last to be picked out of the pile, lol

are those the other winners from the comp? do you remember what builds they submitted? the local in-house builder is all about parallels right now.

No those are my other Comp setups lol
They were using Claptons and Dual Parallels, they were also using regulated boxes to push them past the 4.2V -/+ I was pushing....

The juice well maybe, the velocity gives you a bigger overall chamber to work with since your coils are not offset and you can build further out or larger if you wanted with the velocity. I like the Airflow much better on the TM/13H decks...This is why the Stro Mini and the Double Vision are the best of both worlds...

lol, nice builds.

there are so many options for a *pretty* build, but at the end of the day has to push a cloud.

rules for limitations on what power sources will be allowed is something i'll have to look into.

Trust me all three of those pretty builds can push some clouds...they are hotter then most people prefer and can fog a room in 2-3 pulls, if your limited to a mech make sure to use a full copper mod, if your regulated then make sure to bring something thats more powerful then you need and some fully charged batteries to install just before the comp.

Never seen a comp where the mechs arent isolated to their own thing...
Shit ill get some dual parallel 24g 8 or 9 wraps and crank it to 180 and itll kill everything in sight, no skill though.... thats what i dig about mechs, if you suck at building ya wont get the clouds.

Thats what it was before and not many people did more then single wire builds...the people in my area dont build and tend to like regulated setups, theres no real builders or mech users, this is why they decided to change the rules. Im sure I would of been first in every comp if they didnt change the rule book...

comp-rda-builds-jpg.38495

the coils on the left look like a mismatched set of coils. is that what i'm seeing?

if so, hear is my thought..........
a set of quick fire coils that sit in the juice well. the heavier slower fire coils would be wicked.
yes or no?

Nope the Quads are all the same, its just how the camera is and lightning playing with your head...They are all 2 x 26K/38N80
The RDA on the Right has Fused Claptons and then a Parallel Wire for Faster Heating, its called Staged Heating....Removes Ramp Up

Heres a few more pics of Staged Heating:

Velocity RDA or Double Vision, or a Double Vision with Trinity Glass Topcap for even better results.

I just got my Trinity top cap today. It may be user error, but it seems like the airflow is definitely reduced. I put it on my Velocity, and it seems equivalent to running the top holes closed, and the bottom about 3/4 open. I usually run the top open, and the bottom about 1/2. Having said that, I still prefer my Velocity for ease of building. But the build deck on my Double Vision will take some massive coils, and the airflow is way more than adequate. I'll have to mess around with placement of the coils with the Trinity. It is a beautiful cap though, and the craftsmanship is flawless!
