Im gonna believe that you're referring to the resistance of the coil. 0.5ohm or 1.5ohm nine times out of ten the 1.5ohm coil is going to be higher im resistance and require less power to push it; because, the wire is a thinner gauge. It is also usually more geared towards a mouth to lung vapor. The 0.5 ohm will normally be a thicker gauge wire and need more power. It will also normally have a wider air path(if verticle) and be heard more towards directly lung vapors.

So I guess this is a matter of preference? Really don't understand the difference.

Yes it's a matter of preference and making sure your mod can fire the lower resistance.
Most people that enjoy one do not enjoy the other. Some of us are exceptions. :)
Generally speaking if you like a tight draw, you would prefer the 1.5ohm. If yu like a looser draw the 0.5ohm
