Can't remove morning ccig

Howdy everyone,

I have been vaping on and off for year now. Quite happy using MVP 2 with nautilus mini, 1.8 ohm coils, 12 mg juice 50/50, coffee, custards, pastry are my favs, no citrus flavours (gives bad heartburn).
I have a hard time with craving analog when stressed (economy is doing a good job of that) and I live with a smoker. He tried my vape, hacked up a lung () and went "nope will never work".
I tried having 18 mg on hand for the hard times ( found it way to harsh).
I can avoid going outside for smoke at work ( darn cold at the moment), 'cause of the amount of water I drink I use the bathroom a fair bit (and vape - there is no worries of getting caught, they are single bathrooms not stalls, I don't blow clouds and I keep my mouth shut and don't say anything....).

How do you all get passed the highly stressful times and (living with a smoker).....and that one in the morning....

Thanks....

I feel ya on that point. You're not going to be able to force it - from my experience with people that go "nope, never, nu-uh, no way" right off the bat? You're better off just doing it for you and hope they come around at some point.

edited to add: my wife still smokes. I still step outside with her every time she wants one. I don't hound her, I don't badger her with "you should vape!" stuff, I just step outside. It's four minutes, and I'm perfectly happy to stand out there with her and vape. (In fact, I've gotten to the point where I can tell if her second hand is finding its way into my intake holes, it kind of spoils the flavor - funny, I used to be the biggest anti-anti-smoker ever, now here I am moving away from second hand smoke, heh)

I struggled with that morning stinky for a while when I made the switch. (That and smoking while drinking, drinking and vaping took a little while to get used to).

Try going to your usual smoking location in the morning and vaping instead. Did you used to step outside with your coffee and a smoke first thing? The garage? Behind the shed? Go where you went before, just don't smoke - vape. The urge for a smoke will subside, and your body will get that nicotine it wants and it'll be fine. Over time, it'll get more and more switched over to vape instead of that smoke.

I vape at a really low wattage with slightly more potent (think, in my case, 12mg 50-50 instead of 4mg 80-20 throughout the day) juice to get the day started. It's become my new ritual, just like smoking first thing used to be.

Best of luck to you. Don't sweat the stinkies - if you slip and have one, well okay, you just had a cig. Big whoop. Is it being followed up, throughout the day, with 19 more? No? Then you're still doing better than you were before you started vaping. As someone that vowed to die with a cigarette in his hand, I simply don't care for cigarettes anymore - trained myself by going to the same location as I used to, keeping the ritualistic parts of my life relatively the same, and by using different methods of vaping for different parts and aspects of the day.

Thanks Burley -great advise,

I do ALLOW myself to have one if things get (in my mind) out of hand......cigs here ( Alberta) are now $15 a pack that alone is a deterrent....
I use vape when I want chocolate or anything deliciously sweet, I have avoided the must have cig after supper (eat frequently throughout day along with water, not having large supper - combined with a HIGHLY ENERGETIC dog who I swear can tell time...:) and refuses to poop in his own yard.
Allergic to alcohol (ingesting it) so I vape it...:) I have a really good rum/egg nog and coffee/Kalua ....and a nice menthol/chocolate for the times when flavour taste gets dull.....

I GOT THIS!!!!
Vape on everyone...
Great forum.....

Yeah you do! Just remember, it gets easier with time. Sounds like you got this pretty much licked, just not gonna happen overnight you know? Everyone's different - you do you. You'll get through it. See ya in six months, when you haven't had a stick since before you can clearly recall, and I'll toast your congratulations with ya.

I always left my cigs in my car when I was transitioning. The toughest, for me to let go of, were the ones I smoked on the way to work. It got easier as time passed, As far as living with a smoker... I'm at a point where it takes everything in me to actually be around a smoker and not run! I can't take the smell, and I know that used to be me.

I vape a lot, but when I'm stressed, I REALLY vape a lot.

One thing that helped me was asking myself the question "was that smoke any more satisfying than if I would have just had a vape?". The answer may be different for you but for me (especially with the nasty cig taste still lingering in my mouth) the answer would be no, it was no where near as awesome as I had imagined and anticipated it would be

Another thing that helped me (and this method may be even more personally subjective than the last, but hey) was starting to drip with an rda, it added that ritual element that the whole 'hit the button and pull' convenience of tank vaping was lacking. Building coils, re-wicking and dripping brings me back to pulling out my papers and pouch and rolling (or opening a fresh pack) lighting up, and all that ritual that went into smoking which I was quite fond of, I also found that dripping/subohmimg was much more of a satisfying vape, and the flavour became more of an enjoyment to me (I make my own juice) than the nic factor. Also having a set duration of time with an rda (vape till your cottons dry) made vaping feel more like a Conclusive event in and of itself (ei going out for a smoke) than huffing on an everlasting tank which I found I could take for granted after a while.

That's my very personal take but I figured I might as well share what helped me out. Just keep on vaping and take it one day at a time, and you'll be fine :)

You obviously have a set desire to eliminate cigs completely so you've jumped the most difficult hurdle already.

Good luck! P.s I'm from Alberta too ;)

It's easy. I am just not a smoker anymore. I do like the smell of cigarettes. I try one a few times a year on holiday and can't finish a cigarette, even though most of my friends are smokers there. A lady friend I hang out with smokes, even in my hotel room- albeit sitting on the window sill with the window open, and I'm just not tempted at all. I vape high nic, high PG and a cigarette just isn't satisfying anymore...

I know what you mean. It doesn't really bother me to be out at break with smokers at work. A burning cig doesn't bother me. The ashtray smell that clings afterwards does. And yes, I used to smell like that. LOL. My husband is maybe 50/50 vapes and cigs and the ashtray smell kind of pukes me out now. I can now tell when someone is smoking in a car in front of me. The smell comes through my vent intakes.

I have to say Burley hit the nail on the head for what worked for me. I was tempted at first but pushing through and making the vape the ritual instead of a cigarette eventually worked. I also had an advantage in that I never smoked in my car so calling while driving is like a bonus for me.

I knew I made it after waking up one morning from a blackout drinking binge and apparently I vaped my tank dry... But I didn't smoke

Luckily, once I went to a subohm tank and device, I was able to give up cigs pretty quickly. I never was prone to light up first thing in the morning. The after meal cig was the hardest for me. Everybody is different. I didn't smoke in my car either (bought one 3 years ago and didn't want to stink it up), so it's a bonus to vape in the car for me too. I hadn't smoked in the house for 20 years, so a first morning smoke entailed getting up and getting dressed to go out. Maybe that's why it wasn't the hardest one for me to give up.

Thanks for all the tips......reading through this forum is great inspiration.
Day one....didn't touch one, they sent hubby to work for a couple days ( oil patch - when work comes we relish it), him not lighting up helped immensely now if they could send him to Nanuvut for awhile...... ;) ;)
My poor pooch doesn't know what hit him, this morning was, where are the smokes.....on with the leash and off for a walk (5 am) ......as I said in first post I swear he can tell time.....off we go again at 7:30.....:) (Regular schedule).
Have a good day all - off to play with some graphic design/newspaper advertising for the day....

Stress is what caused me to go back to smoking full time.

Many forget that cigarettes have thousands of chemicals in them, many of which have a Prozac like effect. Tobacco companies add them to create a stronger addiction by enhancing the "ahhhhh" feeling when you light up

Vaping gives you only nicotine which can help some bUT this is why you notice the cigarette craving more when you stress, your body wants the Prozac effect.

I'm trying now to get back to vaping and will be talking to my doctor about giving me something like Prozac to try and keep me from getting really stressed and craving a cigarette.

I typically don't like the idea of taking stuff like that but if it helps reduce overall anxiety and therfore prevents really bad cravings I'll give it a try

Just keep your head up

In the beginning I had a hard time giving up that morning smoke... And I was the guy who downed a monster and two Marlborough in the first ten minutes of being awake. Then I would really focus on reaching for the vape the rest of the day. Hell TBH I carried a half pack of cigarettes with me every where even after I switched over to vapinf completely, security blanket effect I suppose.

After awhile of vaping through the day that morning cig just satisfied less and less and tasted worse and worse. Then it just clicked and I started vaping completely instead of smoking.

After a month of purely vaping I finally stopped carrying that half pack of smokes

It took me about three months of dual use (with the cigs going down all the time, fewer each week than the week before) to finally quit. When I did, I didn't miss them much, although the occasional craving would hit for the next three months or so (I still occasionally get them, but they're weak, rare, and easy to vape through).

One thing I did discover was how much I was self-medicating. Although diagnosed as clinically depressed years before (and on medication to counter that), as the cigarettes reduced, the symptoms returned and intensified. Fortunately, my doctor was on the ball, knew what was happening, and worked with me to rebalance medication levels as I reduced and quit smoking. So although I had a few absolutely awful weeks, I had plenty of support.

If anything like that is the case with you, giving up those last few cigarettes over the long-term can be very difficult. Don't be afraid to reach out for help.

These days, I'm downright cheerful but still retain my title as King of Snark.

I'm not seeing your problem here....you are moving in the right direction and making huge progress for that you should commend yourself for huge gains instead of focusing on the tiny distance you have to go....The vaping world is as full of asshole as the rest of the world, and we have these pinheaded fucks that vape because they want to be cool or hip, or belong to a cult, and they go around like little vape nazis looking for vape pursists. we have a few on this board....fuck them they are usually little wet behind the ear punks who smoked for like a half a pack a day for a decade smokers.they don't know what it's like to smoke two packs a day for 30 years...for people like you who are trying to quit smoking vaping isn't a hobby it's a lifeline you can't compare your struggles to theirs or anyone elses, we don't know jack shit about the nature of addiction and how to stop it, so cut yourself some slack and stay the course.
