Bellus builds?

Hey everyone, I'm getting tired of doing the same old same old .4 ohm 28g build. Does anyone have any ideas for a build that will fit into the bellus? Currently I only have 26 and 28 gauge kanthal. I'm definitely more of a flavor junky as opposed to a cloud chaser. Thanks for the advice in advanced

Ha! Well as a matter of fact I just did my first Clapton build ever a few moments ago and I did it on my Bellus :) 30 gauge (all I had ATT) claptoned around 24 g, 5 wraps. Man was that a struggle to fit on that deck and in those holes. Now it's time to fire her up with some HIC apple pie :p yum yum

Given the wire you have at your disposal maybe try a vertical build just for fun, I saw a cool picture of one a while back on a Bellus.

I just bought a Bellus this week and put a sick build in it. I didn't think it would fit, but it rocks! 28g N80 claptoned with 36g KA1. 7 wraps on 2.5mm bit. It's a tight fit and damn near snug up to the posts but it doesn't short and fires beautifully at around .5 ohm. At around 60W it sings, flavor and vapor are juicy and dense. As good as a dripper, no joke. I LOVE this tank.

I'm having a hell of a time with wicking the Bellus. Can anyone suggest a working technique that will allow something higher than 30 watts. I have a single coil in there, now, but had dual - still dry hit after roughly 3 seconds at 30 watts. i've tried setting the wick on the deck, dropping the wick down to the shelf in the juice channel and running the wick all the way down the juice channel. I'm sure it's me but f this. I see a lot of complaints about leaking but I've not had a single issue with that or gurgling... I'd take gurgling over a disgusting dry hit, any day.

I run 2.5 mm coils with the wick snuggly in it. I cut the wicks right at the little shelf and fluff it up and trim the sides so when the top is on the cotton isn't compressed.

your probably wicking with too much cotton.. I have in the past a few times had issues only if I wrapped the cotton to tight in the coil..

Have you had any any luck top filling like that? I wick very similar to that and it works better than other ways I've tried but I always have to bottom fill it if I wick it for good performance

Yep, I I take off the base and fill through the channel slots every time, I was top filling before with no problems but it wasn't wicking as well. Seems like it's been a toss up between good wicking and consistent saturated dense hits, and the convenience of top fill.

I just gotta keep experimenting with it I guess

RonaldStark, I've had no issues top filling except once, but I think it was user error - top filled, set it down, looked over, EMPTY. Every bit leaked out of the AF! I think the problem was I didn't have the top cap on tight enough, which would totally explain it. Otherwise I close the AFC, top fill, snug the top cap, turn the tank over, open AFC, turn it right side up, it bubbles (apparently not enough), and good to go. I will bottom fill if I'm adjusting the wick (which hasn't helped my wicking issues).

After thinking about this a bit.. I think your problem is two fold.. .
A. How you are wicking..
B. Secondy .. Every time you pull that top off you are messing up the Juice flow its not really so much a Vacuum as it is a pathway the juice is taking the fibers of the cotton are absorbing then pulling up the ejuice in a similar fashion as the Capillary affect..
C. How far down is the cotton in the juice channel? If you are getting dry hits it is possible if the ends are too think that the juice can never wick..
D. I have in the past had issues with 90% + VG
However when I wicked with a bit less cotton this went away
Can you wick the Bellus take a picture?

I recieved the bellus pre release from UD and my magic build is quad 26 gauge on 2mm 9 wraps. Ohms out at 0.19. Works outstanding on a mech or around 65 watts on a regulated device. Minimal cotton, just enough to cover the juice channels at the top, none down in the channels. I top fill, and everyone who has tried it is amazed by it. There are two coils on each side, one above the other. I taste flavor notes on this build that arent perceptible on any of my other tanks. Will try to get a pic later when I am home.

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind posting photos? Sounds pretty bad ass.

My wicks right on top of the JF channels, sometimes a negligible amount of fibres are laying down in the channels, I never get dry hits and I use max vg, only pg is my flavourings and I dilute 3-4 percent with distilled water.

I should also mention that it only leaks very briefly after I top fill and then once the flooding evaporates it's fine. I've tried all sorts of different ways to top fill including flipping it upside down for the final turn of the top cap, flipping it to open the afc, filling with afc open, but it always floods right after.

I'll wick it and post a pick pic when I get home later.

Thanks for the input everyone :)

Close AFC, fill, tighten top cap, flip, open AFC, turn upright. Try that way and see what happens.

LOL, at this point, I wish mine leaked over dry hits! At least your wick is soaked. Mines dry and shriveled.

Thanks! Ive tried that as well, but I'll give it another go. I think it must have something to do with my wicking, I'll post pictures later.

My girl friend builds and wicks hers differently than mine and she has the exact same problem as well so it will be double awesome if I can determine where the error is

I cut my wicks about 4-5mm wide and peal the outer pieces off on both sides. I cut them just so they barely touch the bottom of the juice channels. It works for me. The sweet spot coil for me is 7 wrap 26g around a 2.4mm screwdriver. I can run it like this up to about 75wat

I wicked it by stuffing my wicks part way over the shelf before, and was able to top fill without issues, but I got dry hits and had wicking problems so for me it was worth it to wick for performance and just deal with the hassle of bottom filling (which isn't that huge of a deal to me)

Would be nice to have the best of both worlds though!

I do not believe that having the wicking at the top of the juice channel is good with the Bellus I let my wick hang halfway down and I never have probs just some thoughs now it could just be Demons.. when all else failes Entities could be at work :)

That was interesting! Kills me how you have 4 coils and it's working and I can't get it to wick on one. I did rewick using more of a pancake method, tapering the tops of the wicks, and cutting the bottoms of the wick just to the inner ledge in the juice channel. I can actually hit it 40 watts, now. It almost went out the car window, the other day while I was trying to actually get it to somewhat flood so it wouldn't be so dry, and it gushed juice out. Since the Bellus I've gotten the Mutank and Aromamizer (which isn't very attractive but it's nice as far as I'm concerned) and have no issues with wicking and high wattage - they are hard to mess up, though.

I finally got my Bellus to wick like a champ. Sorry if I hijacked the OP's original post, but perhaps this will help OP or someone:

I mainly use 26 Ga Kanthal or SS for the Goliath, and so far that seems to be good for the Bellus, too. Both have tight build decks and anything above a 2.5 ID coil is going to be too tight for my liking. currently I have 26 Ga, 2.5 ID, .3 ohm, dual Kanthal coils. The wicking is different than what I'm used to - I cut the wicks short, so as not to fall below the wick shelf, in the juice channel, then I taper the top of the wick (cut at an angle, from the bottom up) and fluff the hell out of it (think pancake wicking) and after priming, let the lower portion of the wick sit in the juice channel, right at that little ledge (I've heard it called a wick shelf). Also my coils are directly behind the air hole - not too high, not too low. It does like a lot of wick but still not so tight in the coil that it chokes wicking, and no need to comb the wick. What I've found is very similar to Tyler.Burrows.5's technique. It also doesn't leak!

When I pull the deck out, the wick looks crazy as hell, messy, sloppy, all over the place, but it works like steam boat. I don't usually go above 45 watts but I can vape easily at 50 watts whereas before, I was lucky to get 30. It's a much better experience and I'm less inclined to throw it out of a window.

Don't worry about it. I mainly created this thread so that anyone looking for coil ideas or wicking ideas for their bellus had a thread for help.
