Where do you guys get your wire from? I like the wire i have but the spools are a pain in the ass and they keep tangling up on me. I mostly use 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 kanthal. Any recomendations?

My fix for that, look at the top of the spool.

i'll be getting my first order of bulk wire from LV this week. 500'-36g/1000'38g

my plan is to re-spool my Vapowire spools. i like the spool/box combo. they are well labeled for wire type and size, manage the loose end well (i feed the wire through a hole in the middle of the 'O', and bend the end of the wire. the end is always ready to go), and are great for those that use fingers to control wire pressure (the box sits out of the way, and feeds wire as needed. this also gives me portability if i ever want to wrap outside of home.

These look like an interesting solution:

Spool Tamer

Hmmm... I've got some Velcro® out in the garage, that can be cut to length for securing extension cords and the like. I wonder... Maybe with a small grommet...?

But spools are how you get wire, unless you want to blow the bank and get 15cm precut strands in a tube.

Just take a little care how you unspool the wire, and do what Huck suggests. I go a step further and tape that end to the spool.

If you haven't already, go to YouTube and learn how to straighten wire. It only requires a drill, and straightened wire is way more manageable. From there, it's only a tiny step to "getting rid of" your unused gauges by twisting strands together, and making coils with that.

Just saw this easy DIY fix. Would work in a pinch. There's a band thing available, too, but haven't run across it yet. Or put a wide rubberband around the spool, poke a hole in it and feed the wire through the hole.

Cheap easy option.

I just replicated the band thing I posted above with some Velcro®. I'll have to post up pictures, later.

the spools from LV fit in the Vapowire boxes. yea!!

i punched a hole in the side of the box to feed the wire thru and i'm good to go. this is really handy for wrapping wire. the prevent the wire from retracting back into the box and spooling, i bend a little hook in the wire. all my wire is ready to go at the drop of a hat.

Got mine from Kidneypuncher

As for taming the spools, I just used 1/2" x 4" hose clamps.

I use a wide rubber band to tame my unruly spools. The UD spools have a bunch of different holes and slots to control the wire.

It kinda is but I've bought kanthal from China and it was totally shitty! I think it was made by a company called gear spec. It's on eBay so don't buy it. Lightning vapes is from China I'm pretty sure but it's reasonably priced and very good quality. I buy from temco because it's made in the USA. It is a little higher in price but worth it!
