Question about steeping from a beginer.

Hi!

I just stared in the DIY world. I've been doing some simple recipes that didn't really required steeping. Im at my first "complex" recipe. The author of the recipe says it needs 10 days of steeping.

The way I understant steeping is air + shaking. So here's how I do it.

1. I've acces to a paint shaker ( working in an hardware store ) So I put my bottle in it for like 5 minutes.
2. Let in some fresh air and letting old air out.
3. Let the bottle stand in a dark cool spot.

repeat the next day.

Is that a good way of steeping ?
and Im not looking for fast method Im not in a hurry :)

Also... If I see a recipe that says to mix 30/70 and I mix it at 20/80 will it keep the same taste?

Thanks!

If you're not in a big hurry just put in a dark spot [cabinet or in a drawer out of the light] leave it sealed and just wait the 10 days. You might want to sample it every couple days, temptation you know. 20/80 should taste the same, not much different. Hope this helps you and welcome to V/U:cool:

I don't bother venting air unless it has alcohol taste.
(It can let some of the flavor escape too, not a good thing)

Use the same percents for any PG/VG ratio.
Certain flavors need more time than others, like custards, strawberries, certain creams & vanillas.
And many tobacco types + many of the CAP & FW flavors.

Oh ya, welcome to VU.

IMO, opening to vent, is only necessary when your flavor(s) contain alcohol. Otherwise, just let it sit for the amount of days, shaking the bottle once, or twice a day.

Regarding the different VG/PG, I never noticed any major difference in the flavor of the juice. The only difference might be that it takes longer to distribute through the juice evenly, due to the viscosity or lack of, in the juice.

If you're trying to one-up humanity by using the most aggressive shaking method possible, I guess you win.

Even for paint, what's the average... three minutes?

Thank you all for your fast reply! guess I'll follow all your advice! and forget about the venting and keeping shaking it once in a while :D

depends of the color some dark colors requires 5 mins or even more.

First you have to remember that almost every DIY maker has a different definition for the term to STEEP and just about as many methods to steep or AGE the juice........

Don't use the paint shaker. Unless you want to oxidize the juice.

Me... I vape mostly tobacco based juices. NET and manufactured, flavorings. I AGE Most of my juices from 10days to months. I only shake or stir it enough to mix the ingredients. When I mix juice I like to fill bottle with minimal head space, then roll the bottles to mix them. Steel ball in the bottle is helpful. Magnetic stirrer would be great for large batches. Unless I am trying to reduce alcohol content, I avoid exposure to air or heat as much as possible. At least until the juice hits the coil. I always avoid exposing the juice to sunlight. I mix the juice, then set it on a dark shelf to age. I will go though and re shake/roll the bottles on the shelf every couple days. Pretty much the same process as used with aging fine wine and liquors.

Changing the PG/VG/Nic ratios can affect flavor. Sometimes, you even have to adjust recipe flavoring ratios when you change batch sizes. Not all flavorings and ingredients scale up or down at the same rates. Sometime you have to adjust recipes because of the device or atomizer you are using to vape the juice.

Sounds like mostly a fruity flavor so 24hrs is usually enough.
You can put your finished juice into a hot water bath a few times to help it mix better, (just hot tap water).
More useful for high VG mixes, but works for PG too.

If you are in a hurray and impatient like me sometimes, you can fill an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner with kinda hot water and put the bottle in it for like 10 mins, then let it sit to cool off to room temp for 10 mins or so and it seems to work pretty dam good
