IPV5

got my IPV5 in the mail today! Been waiting since end of Dec. oh yeah! Gotta learn. Know nothing about temp control. Says I need to download on computer for updates. The instructions seem basic. I do have 723 premium pure nickel 28awg wire a friend gave me. After twisting claptons and such, this wire seems incredibly delicate.
Looking forward to playtime.

Here's a few things you need to know. Mainly you need a wire that is comparable with TC. Those include for most new mods: Ni200 (pure Nickel), Ti01 (Titanium grade 1), and SS (most are set up for 316L, but a lot of new mods have user adjustable TCR).

TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) is a number that lets the mod calculate the temperature of the coil by how much it's resistance changes from it's room temperature resistance as it heats up. The higher the number, the greater the change( theoretically more accurate-easier for the mod to read). Here's a chart giving you some TCR's of TC wire.

That's a quick rundown for you. Hope it helps!

Cheers,
Steve

One important thing I forgot to mention for the IPV5 (basically all Yihi chipped TC mods). You need to set/lock in the resistance of your room temperature TC coil/heads the first time using them. You only need to do it once, you would only repeat it after changing coils, heads, or attys. You do that by pressing the + and - buttons at the same time until the set resistance screen disappears. Don't want to get ahead of you, but that is the most common reason people have trouble in the beginning.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for the help. I did put a Ni 12 wrap dual, hitting 80J at 474* resistance sitting around .07. It hits well. Why do I notice a slight taste with nickel wire? Mod has a tiny buzz in TC mode. Can use SS, Ti, and Ni in TC mode. Upgradeable but couldn't get on to website last night. Has USB plug but can't charge battery with it. Mine was stuck. Going only to 75 watts in power mode. I played around with it till I could get it to 200. Don't think I'll ever use 200 but last year I didn't think I would ever need 100 watts.
Anyways I think the IPV5 is solid build. Little heavier than I would've thought. It has a mode for SX pure which is a tank they are coming out with soon. I saw a video on utube and this coil is crazy looking. Takes 3/4 of a Japanese cotton square! The coil is like a "U" with the wick sitting inside of the "U". Have no idea what it was made of, the video was in French. Like a know French, right?
Gonna play some more, need to get another type of wire though. Not really liking the nickel.

Guess I'm bragging a little but I also got a new atty. The Heir Atty. wanted to try a RDA with air in juice wells. I like flavor, but I like clouds too.

Great mod with a few little flaws, but nothing major. Got new blue one in today, the battery door is def. looser than my others with a little side to side play, and the top magnet was not glued down properly causing it to come loose. Super glued it down and put some electrical tape around inside edge to stop the play. Also this one has the 75w limit issue so going to go do that sequence to fix. As well the button issue with them not responding, but again easy solution.

I guess it's just my luck with blue mods these days and minor issues between this one and my blue hohmwrecker.... But hey, my blue mods aint got me blue...lol

I love my IPV5, it and the Stout are my go to mods now but the performance at low ohms favors the IPV5 so far, it has taken my Crown with the .25 ohm coil to another level.

My silver IPV5 took it's first big tumble the other day, luckily there was no tank on it. Was swapping tanks and accidently hit it and it went flying 4 feet off a 4 foot table, ohhhh the horror. It got 3 small scars on it and the battery door came off but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been with such a crashing fall.

I love both my silver and black Ipv5's. I think its great... very smoth. Powerful as hell. Edges out my ipv3li's. Battery life has also been better than my other powerhouse mods with same builds. Hope after the chinese japanese dirty knees holiday they release some software for us all to play with.... dont tease me with talk about custom logo's and gui such and offer nothing out the gate.

Do any of you guys have some software glitches sometimes? Button seems unresponsive but nothing major, However my mod did fuck up somehow and thought i had a .6ohm when i had a .4ohm. Within a few seconds it did change it back to .4 ohms so nothing too bad. I also have my IPV5 suddenly locking itself in place and unlocking seemed to take about 10 tries before it finally unlocked. Nothing too major but i hope an update is coming soon to fix these problems.

I have had the button issue on my silver one as well. I believe it was also discussed in the "IPV5 200W not mine" thread. Not a show stopper but has been annoying a few times already.

*** I just verified something I thought was a fluke last night. When I changed my batteries rather quickly (under 5 seconds I'd say) then hit the fire button once, it was already turned on, no need to hit power 5x!

Could someone perhaps measure theirs and list the exact dimension of this mod (preferable in mm :) ) ? Different vendors list different dimensions, and not sure which ones are true....I am thinking about getting this mod, but it does seem quite huge.

Dont have measurements but it is far from huge.... its in the almost small but medium size range.

Thanks a bunch! Less wide than I thought, but it's a bit on the tall side.....I do like my mods short.....but I also do like the extra options it brings compared to for example the Kanger 200W (TCR, pure setting, memory functions)......I guess I think about it a bit more :) (or just get both LOL)
