Very true. I admit, I had no idea that batteries were so volatile till I started vaping, but really this is true of ANY batteries -- they hold electric charge, and most everyday metals are conductive to some degree, so if they contact the positive post of a battery, that's an electric circuit. The batteries we use are so very powerful, we do have to take special care with them.

ilumn.com will send you a free battery box if you order a pair of batteries.

For anyone else who hasn't been properly informed DO NOT transport your spare batteries loose!!!

A quick search on exploded e-cigarettes almost every time someone had a lose battery or a foreign object came into contact with the battery!! Much rather see you in the news because you won the lottery. ;)

Either that of a hybrid top cap adapter on a mech with a subohm tank (95% of the time the Atlantis tank)

and maybe the rare 'ego battery on wrong (too much power) charger' thing

A few years ago a friend got into vaping and left a spare battery in his ashtray with change... he found himself chucking the battery out the window a few minutes after he stuck it in the ashtray.

Or, for those ego chargers... they're just so damn cheapie, they're just plain not safe. I have a really pretty ARO Winder that I've completely retired, due to it having to charge with one of those Ego chargers -- when I once searched up battery catastrophes with e-cigs, about 90% of the images showed a melted Ego charger.

I had just finished using a 'green vegetable like substance' in my car with a few friends when i was a teenager and i stuck the metal pipe in the lighter socket.

I was a perfect fit but it instantly blew the fuse that worked the dash lights and lighter.

Since I knew cars and electricity like the back of my hand I learned that I should never drive after smoking that shit.;)

OK-the person is obviously new, and really should know basic safety-but she can't blame Efest on this one.

The rise in vaping popularity has also seen a rise in people who want to vape, without even learning basic safety.

When I got my first mod, I joined here and POTV's in the UK to get advice on what to get-and I asked MANY questions-some of them may of seemed irrational, but I would rather know the answer than take the risk.

All of my batteries have come in a container, either plastic or cardboard.(The cardboard ones get put into plastic containers). Also, it is pretty obvious when you look at one you are not dealing with a AA battery-when I first saw the battery I had lots of questions.

So, another media scare for vaping-caused by someone with no knowledge, carrying batteries loose in a handbag with god knows what else.

I do wish the lady better-but I really hope she takes the time to learn basic safety-although I feel she will blame it on the battery and vaping, and go back to cigarettes, telling all of her friends how dangerous vaping is. Sad, but true.

I have so many people coming into my shop telling me how unsafe it is and how batteries are exploding left and right... perhaps people behind the counter selling these products should give a tutorial! after any electronic cigarette purchase or vape purchase i go step by step through what needs to be done for maintenance, best taste, etc... If anyone is purchasing an electronic device do not be scared to ask the seller many questions.

Saw a guy on the bus start dancing "La Cucaracha" running like my little buddy down there and reached in his pocket.... Threw (2) 18650 cells on the ground and kicked them off the bus........ They vented in his pocket with change and keys ....... Yes they did.......:bliss:

What with the popularity of Orange is the New Black, you'd think people would be more familiar with the concept of a prison lighter (where you create fire by dead shorting a AA battery). Instead, the idiots try to light their pants on fire *shaking head*

He's right about one thing, people need to be warned about Efests, but for different reasons.

Efests are just overpriced low quality rewraps.

and most of the time it's that shit 7a "30 amp" efest that's been going around.

those cheap assess could have at least used a 15amp cell and most of these "mod explosions" would have never happened.

I would say
30Q, HG2, 25R, NSX, HE2, HE4, VTC5 for regulated.
20R, HD2C, HD2, VTC4 for regulated at it's high wattage range.
HB6 for mechs and 200W 2 battery regulated at their high wattage range.

Thank you for being so helpful, now I'm going to go research all these strange symbols =D
Mechs are too advanced for me, I fail physics and chemistry, my brain takes awhile to process that shit.

We had a rash of these stories in the UK press, 'Ecig explodes in pocket' of 'Ecig almost set fire to my house/car' NO ! being an IDIOT done that. Who'd have thought a 25-30a battery wasn't safe to keep in your pocket along with a bunch of keys, or that leaving a battery on charge unattended, (in cold weather) in your car wasn't a good idea. That one was a school teacher !
I view it as natural selection at work. :D

For the ladies don't carry loose batteries in you purse just like you don't carry an open water bottle or lipstick, it's just common sense.
At least you're better off from us guys, carrying them in our front pocket :)

I'm a VERY moderate/conservative vaper myself; I use Samsung 25R's and LG HE2's; they're actually rated identically, but I find the HE2's last a tiny bit longer. Those are also VERY moderately priced batteries; they support up to 20 amps, which is lots more than enough for my very conservative style of vaping (10w, 1.5-2 ohms). Best places to get them are either liionwholesale.com, or illumn.com.

I'm ashamed to admit I used to stick duracell AA's down in the side pocket of my purse, anytime I took my camera out somewhere. There could easily have been metallic objects in that pocket -- hair clasps, or the metal thingie that holds hair-elastics together, or bobby pins, etc. I'm just very lucky that I never managed to set my purse on fire!

Thanks Andria, will check those websites out. I smoke sheesha, not cigarettes so I tend to vape like I'm smoking sheesha though not for as long as one could smoke a sheesha.

Can't say I've ever carried extra batteries anywhere....yet. I have a feeling this is going to change.

Where can I get those battery protectors on the right? I have the usual ones ( on left ) but they crack after a while.

Found them, but only come in 18650 size :(

That's why for any battery out there. It requires special handling when comes to dumping them out for trash.

They should, ideally, be recycled. Most of the big-box stores have a batt recycling bin, and I think Radio Shack does too.

In my county/town, there are disposal sites. I have to bring mine to a hazardous waste sort site and they have to be packaged so as not to be a hazard. Baggies are fine. I just dumped about 2 dozen that were + dented from my wife and her SVD.

mine have a range of things. either just old (i like to retire cells after 5 or 6 months, since i do abuse the shit out of em), arced beyond buffing, torn wrappers (should probably learn to rewrap). ive never dented a cell, maybe one neg side that looks warped, but i think thats a fluke.
also i have a handful of fake vtv3s i got in a care package once.

Rewrapping is an absolute piece of cake; takes like 5 seconds with a blow dryer on high. The wraps are cheap, too. For my 25Rs and HE2s, with the wraps from http://battwrap.com/, I trim off not quite a 1/4 inch, for a perfect fit.

In this day and age if are sporting unprotected batteries in your purse or pocket... Stop, sell or toss your gear and go back to smoking.
IT is clear you do not value your health and safety.

I admit until i can get a decent case, I am carrying my extra battery in my battery charger in the plastic packaging. I make sure there is no other metal in the purse before doing this as well.

All you need is a silicone sleeve. They're usually under $1.

Hang on, do you mean you are carrying them in a plastic packaging/box for batteries? If so, that is fine-I use the dual battery cases myself to carry spares with me. If you mean you are carrying a charger with you, with a battery in it, that isn't good and get some boxes or sleeves :).

Not good!

I will admit I have had one close call with batteries- I had been using my noisy cricket for a while, and went to use my Abbadon , which is a parallel box mod. I accidentally put the batteries in series- immediately I felt heat and knew something was wrong, I managed to get the bottom off and the batteries out of my window in time, but the batteries shrink wrap had melted and burnt from the heat, but they had not vented!

I still threw them out though as I did not feel safe using them after this happened-they are about £10 for a set of good batteries and I would rather lose a tenner than my hand or face.

Christ dude for 9 years on a daily basis I saw all sorts of battery abuse in the cellphone industry.
NiCad were far more stable, but as the demands grew LiIon was the go to. It scared me then and scares me now that people are too god damned stupid to carry a phone would poke swollen bloated batteries let alone try and use them.

Yep. And you know that saying, "a word, to the wise, is sufficient"? That's us -- once we knew the dangers, we responded appropriately. But most people just aren't that "wise" -- their usual attitude, even when hearing very valuable info, is "ehhh, no biggie."

It's clear that most of us here have at least a moderately intelligent brain in our heads -- we got off cigarettes thx to vaping, right? We worked out all the details of HOW to vape and WHAT to vape, how to make it all work just right. Now, just think of all those total fucking morons who really believe that vaping is no better than smoking. Yeah. Those are the brain-trusts who set themselves on fire with batteries.
