Hey guys. I'm fairly new to vaping and very new to temperature control. I have a 100w istick with a joyetech cubis, 1.0ohm i have been using for a couple months with great success. I just picked up the kangertech topbox mini kit and I just have a few questions. The juice I am using most is a 35pg/65vg vanilla cinnamon custard mix with the .5 Clapton coil that came with the kit. I am at 40watts and 450 Fahrenheit. If I go any lower on the watts it does the same thing only takes longer. I am getting a ton of flavour but I can't taste the cinnamon and vanilla like I do on my istick. Also I have no clue if that temperature is good or not but it is producing big clouds as well as a very strong flavour without any burning. All that being said I figured I am doing alright for a first timer but now I have noticed that I can kill my Samsung 18650 in no time. I think I used a quarter battery in like 20 minutes today. Also I noticed if I haul on it any longer then 1.5-2 seconds it will stop burning. It's not a huge problem because I am getting so much flavour that I rarely hit it that hard but it's got me thinking I have something set up wrong here. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Underground!

Kanger's implementation of TC with Kanthal and Nichrome is suspect and sketchy at best. For best results with the Clapton coil head, use it in power (VW) mode.

Different flavor notes in vliquid will "pop" at different temps. For instance, fruits tend to like cooler temps, while tobacco & bakery tend to like higher temps. If you're focused on flavor, play with your temp (or power) settings to see how your vliquid responds.

Most of all, have fun staying off the stinkies. Good luck!

The more I try different TC options, the more I stop using TC. The cutoff is probably happening because you're not drawing enough air fast enough (dropping the wattage could help, but I'm with aldenf on that whole "not quite ready for prime time" thing with a lot of TC options out there).

I dropped the wattage to 25 and took the temperature up to 520f and it seems to have solved most issues. Still killing the battery fast though. Thanks for the pointers

Haha. I am used to my istick with 2 batteries at 20 watts lasting 3-4 days. Figured the a single battery would easily last a full day. Oh well, I'll just walk around with a travel charger lol

The Clapton coil is kanthal and should be used in power mode. The regular 0.5 is Nichrome nether one is SS. The SS coil has a pink insulator at the bottom.
The SSOCC refers to the housing not the coil wire. Why Kanger did this I have no idea but it sure adds to the confusion.
Black = Clapton kanthal
Red = Nichrome
Blue = Nickel
Pink = Stainless Steel.
