Buying Wire

Hey all, got a question for y'all.

I have about 3mi of wire, but no matter where I buy from, the wires are all heavily oiled. Is this the norm? If so, is there an easy way to clean 1000ft+ spools of wire?

Heavily oiled? What kind of wire? Where from?
Never heard of vape shops/sites selling wire that is oily.

Bleach breaks down oil. Could give it a soak in diluted bleach.
Might damage the wire though, and you would need to make sure it is well rinsed before trying to use it.

@zaroba Got from kidneypunch, builders city, and local vape. Got from kanthal, nichrome, and stainless steel.

The pre made clapton wiire from youde comes with a decent amount of oil on it too. My suggestion is vapor tech wire, haven't had any problems with it.

@VapeVillian my best suggestion is to look online for it, a bunch of shops in my area carry it but I'm not too sure about anything outside of my city. Take a look and see what websites offer it because you cant order it directly from the manufacturer. If you happen to be canadian i can give you some sites

I can see Canada from across lake Erie LoLz, but no I'm in the States. Cheapest I can find is 30ft for $6. Is that around the goin price?

@AnthonyLouis Yeah man, I definitely wasn't expecting that. When I opened the box from kidneypunch, it was like walkin into a mechanics shop. Lightning vapes is a bit more expensive, but if I don't have to worry about cleaning and soaking the wire, I don't mind paying a bit more. Ordered some kanthal a nichrome80. Preciate the tip. Will post back when I get them next week.

Throw them in a UltraSonic Cleaner with Dawn Dish Soap, that should do it....

Yeah, did that, but now my cleaner stinks of oil. I've tried throwing vinegar, dish soap, and baking soda, but nothing is cleaning my cleaner lol. I should have done like I do with my liquid and put the wire in a glass beaker. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hydrogen Peroxide then soap it again and then bleach it...all clear

91% Isopropyl alcohol removes machining oil. I agree Lightning Vapes wire is very clean. Same goes with Temco.

My UD Clapton spools do have a small amount of oil on them. I just give it some good dry burns before wicking which I do anyhow when tuning them. Everything else I run through an alcohol soaked cotton ball before I wrap or twist it. Most probably don't even really need it, it's just a cheap habit I have gotten into that only takes a few extra seconds.

try giving it a cleaning with some 99% ISO alcohol (also a great solvent for dirty wire)

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. I'll straighten the wire, cream it w/ alcohol, and then rinse and dry. I'm just wishing I could find pre cleaned sire. I go through at least 20-30ft of wire a day as I've become almost obsessed with making new coils LoLz.

It's just annoying that a foot of wire has more oil on it then a new pair of needle nose pliers.

It's a local shop that only sells building supplies (wires, wicks, tools, etc). I have since found out they buy from lightning vape and rebrand. Not sure why as they sell anarchist, gplat, and other branded wire, but it's w/e

I have yet to find a non "special" wire supplier that has cleaned wire. What I've been doing, is making coils, throwing the coils in a beaker with water and vinegar, and throwing that in my sonic cleaner. I'm still having to do about 20min to actually get them clean.
