Ok... My very first build

This is my first ever build. I know I probably didn't pick the easiest medium, Twisted Clapton around a 2 mm screw driver, and it isn't pretty, but... IT WORKS!!!! Yeah Me!!!! It comes in at .4ohms and fires pretty evenly. I made mistakes, I learned some things, but it probably isn't the worst build ever. I have it in a Mutation X v4 on a Reuleaux Rx200 at 60 watts. warm and flavorful.

You chose that for a first build?? Jeez, man! Nice job. I'm the queen of simple single coils and rebuilding Protanks... Well done

Ok... Granted, I'm a noob, but is that even remotely do able or safe?, and wouldn't the Kanthal completely throw out the temperature control characteristics?

hey that's what it is all about just jumping in and building shit...the more challenging the better you learn more from your mistakes than you do your sucsess....as long as you have a good ohm meter good batteries a good mod, and and a good knowledge of battery saftey. try every build that intrigues you....

I am currently using a Greenlee Multimeter, that I have had for a few years, it works pretty well and reads +2 because of internal circuits, I'm using a VV/VW mod, and Sony VTC4s. I plan on getting an ohm meter that will allow me to pulse fire my builds, just because I don't like doing it on my mod. I noticed yesterday that that tends to get a little warm, and I don't want my gear getting damage or blowing up.

Unlike years past most of us learned how to build on much higher builds , but because cloud chasing has become the current fad, there are alot of newbies starting out building very low ohm builds....it is even more important for people building like that to make sure they adhere to saftey,their margin of error is much more demanding....I would never suggest a newbie start out with super low ohm builds.

is this before regulated mods became the norm?

I would suggest not going under .2 Ohms if your just starting out and make sure your batteries are well capable (20a CD+), make sure all your contacts are clean and well maintained. If your using a regualted mod most of the safety is there but its not perfect, check and make sure your batteries are not getting too hot..

I would suggest not going under .2 Ohms if your just starting out and make sure your batteries are well capable (20a CD+), make sure all your contacts are clean and well maintained. If your using a regualted mod most of the safety is there but its not perfect, check and make sure your batteries are not getting too hot..

My mod won't support below .1 ohm in power mode. I love a nice fluffy cloud, but I'm really a flavor guy. At 60 watts in getting a nice mix of both. So I'm pretty happy with it. As far as my gear is concerned, I'm pretty anal about keeping it clean and making sure my batteries stay in good shape. I rotate married sets, and rotate placement with each change.

Thanks, and yeah... I re wicked it the next day, and cut my cotton a little wider and longer, so it would wick better, and it does.
I just got this RDA, last week and sat on it till I could sit down and really play with it. I still have a lot to figure out, but I'll get the hang of it. I was just gonna buy pre builts, but then decided to just dive in head first.

i've wrapped exactly two simple sets of simple coils. the ones in my avatar, and the set i wrapped after that i actually vaped,,,,,,, for about 10 mins. everything after that has been a compound coil of some construction or another.

I have to run all my fused claptons at 70 watts at least to make up for the ramp time, and I'm wondering if using twisted wire as a core will heat faster. I usually make fused claptons with a 28g core and 36g wrap, both kanthal. 70-80 watts gets them going with little to no ramp.

I was playing it safe at 60watts, I've never done this before, so I really didn't know what to expect. I have since cranked it up to 75 watts, down from 80, because the cool down cooked my cotton a little. But to answer your question it's a twisted 28 gauge core with 32 gauge wrap. I'm thinking the next time I'm gonna do 5 wraps and space the coil and see how it works. From what I've read, it should expedite the ramp time and the cool down time.

Congrats on your first successful claptons btw, took me about 5-10 tries before I finally made a pair that was vapable. Check out some stuff on staged heating. Before I bought 36g, I was wrapping with 32g also, and I found that if I run a single wire parallel to the Claptons it made a huge difference. It will drop the resistance into the .2 range though.
