Ti Clapton on Griffin issues

I don't know if it is me but I did a 24g core and a 30g wrap of Ti and I just don't feel like I'm getting good flavor. I'm not sure if I just need to re-wick the coils or if there is something that I did incorrect. I just always have this kinda metal after taste doesn't matter what temp I'm on. Also I'm using a koopor plus with the ramp up on Max and my Griffin has the air flow wide open. Don't know if anyone has some words of wisdom or what just thought I'd post and see if anyone can help me with the metal taste...or whatever it is.

Hey man I have the same problems with Ti. People said more flavor in it but I get less and it takes longer to get hot for me. I found out with Ti to make sure the wire was clean first and run a flame across it or torch to heat it up before I made coils and the taste goes away after a few drags. I still am not getting the same performance out of Ti as I did with Ni but I have some SS otw and I am gonna do a comparison with all three. I hear SS also has a starting funky flavor on fresh coils as well but you can dry burn it at least to help break it in. Im curious did you ever try nickel? Just wondering if you ever got a metallic taste on fresh coils if you have tried it....
EDIT: if you do torch it dont get it too hot....if the wire turns really light gray or white than its oxidizing(no bueno) but you really have to use a real torch to get it that hot I believe

Aaaah fair enough at least it isn't me. Yah I think I also had it wicked to tight or something because parts of the coil were blackish, so I took it all apart soaked it in vodka...lol...yep. Did that for like 20mins ish then took them out and scrubbed everything down with dish soap and used a toothbrush to clean off the coils as best I could, then re-wicked it. Now sadly I must of wicked if wrong because I lost half my fricken tank out the air hole at the bottom and had to take it all apart again and wash it and fluff out the wick a bit more at the bottom but once I did that it didn't leak. Now I'm not sure if I have as much of a taste but I am also vaping a different flavor so I need to load it up with some decode bigfoot again and see. Hopefully it works out and I get a lot of flavor otherwise I am almost temped to just go to fricken kanthal and run in watt mode since the Aspire Cleito tank I have has amazing flavor.

Well just guess it's all a learning process.

I hear good things about stainless steel and have put my order in. I will be making my own claptons as well so I will let you know how it goes!!!

Yes please do then I'll maybe go pick some up at my local vape shop since my Koopor Plus can do SS.

What kind of tank are you using? TFV4?
Also if you run a lighter over your wire before you coil it, it should help the taste a bit, it did for me......just dont get the wire red hot, it will turn all rainbow color and thats fine just dont want white or light gray like ash on it and should be fine.....you can wash it and soak in vodka or whatever after that too if you want
EDIT: I was honestly gonna toss the wire or give it away before I tried that and it saved the wire for me

Ya I'm running the Griffin tank. I re-wicked and the tastes gone but the flavor hit just isn't there, maybe i just need to wick better but I'm getting a lot of vapor so I wouldn't think that's an issue.

you spacing coils a lot or as little as possible? try and keep the coils tight and with Ti I always wick it kinda tight about like I would kanthal they are very stiff so they wont move as much especially claptons. What temp you running it at? I had to crank up to around 500 to get what I wanted taste wise....I have an rx and right around 480 is usually not bad on smaller builds but def 510 or so on bigger builds for me anyway....Im using TCR feature as well
Edit: i know its simple but double check leads too mine sometimes are tough to get real snug with Ti

Posted a pic of the build. I had it wicked too tight I think because the tops of the coils were blackish, so that's why I cleaned it with vodka and scrubbed the coils as best I could. Then I re-wicked it with less but I am unsure if it is enough now, I am running it at 400F at a max ramp up on the Koopor Plus. I will try to throw it up to 510 and see what it's like, I adjusted the TCR to the Ti 1 number I saw which wasn't much different from the original setting.

You have to change thr tcr number in your menu it should be set to about 350-360. Mine came preset around 100 and they go from like 0-1000 or something.

Oh yah mine came programmed at 360 already, I made sure to check that out before posting. I've tried the higher temps also and man I just don't get as much flavor as I do on my Aspire Cleito with its clapton kanthal coils in watt mode. No idea what is up with that just can't seem to get he flavor hit like that stuff, I might go grab some kanthal and build a few claptons with it for the Griffin and give it a shot and see what it tastes like. Maybe it is just the tank itself....who knows for now it is a mystery..lol.

Whats your resistance at out of curiosity....some tanks are just tough to wick right...dont have griffin yet so not sure if it is one or not though sorry...Ti seems to take a sec to get hot too when its cold....once its goin its better but im not likin it so far or really getting better flavor than my nickel claptons(which ramped up faster almost instant and never tasted metallic but i used tempered wire)
