I never got into...

I wonder, just out of curiosity (and a desire to stimulate a little more vaping content on this vaping forum), what aspects of the vast vaping universe people have never tried or maybe tried but didn't get into.

There are a few for me:
- Billet/Boro/AIO type mods. Seemed like too deep a rabbit hole to go down.
- RDTAs. Tried one once. Terrible experience. Never went back.
- Side-by-Sides. Even though a small size is good they just seem limiting.

Anyone else have things they've avoided? What and why, please?

(This is my 1st time starting a thread. Forgive me if I've done something wrong.)

DIY coil making, for fear of getting it wrong and blowing up my building.

People talked about dripping when I was new to vaping. It seemed too tedious to even try.

Was never interested in competition style cloud chucking. I just wanted vaping to mimic cigarette smoking in essential ways.

Big fancy mods, nah. I do have a beautiful KATO Hammer, with a serial number for authenticity (not a clone). I had two but my friend who put me onto vaping had such a bad drooling envy fit, I gave the other one to him. As a mod, it works with my Aspire glassomizers and a single 18350 battery (no dangerous stacked batteries, just the one). It sits securely. When in use, the firing button is on the side, another "must" for me, as I find those bottom firing buttons klutzy.

I still never use it. I save it for show & tell.

Great idea for a thread @Freyja!
  • I never got into the billit box craze either. Those are holes that go deeper than any of my gopher holes.
  • I never really got into tanks. I have some, but I never use them anymore. One misplaced or damaged o-ring or wicking wrong and you got juice all over you. RDTAs are a little better as they aren't as finicky as RTAs.
  • After I moved on from EGOs I've been 100% rebuildable coils. Factory coils to me are just an ongoing expense I could go without and you're out of luck if they stop making them for your tank.
  • With coils, I never got into the coil porn type of coils. I'm good with a good ol' fused Clapton.
Just give me a mech squonk and RSA and I'm good to go.

Thank you, @Bliss Doubt !

lol

People say it used to be the only way to get peak flavor. Some say it still is. I dunno 'bout that but it IS handy for trying new mixes. And RDAs are easy to wick. But I can definitely see your point about it being tedious.

Me neither. I do like to "chuck clouds" once in a while though. You said you wanted vaping to mimic cigarette smoking. Back in the day, I would exhale a lot of smoke from younger, stronger lungs with cigarettes made the way they used to be. Big clouds remind me of that. It helps sometimes.

I hear that! A lot of us do, surely.

Fused Claptons would be a step up for me. Gotta try the good stuff someday soon.

Mixing my own elliquid was something I did a little bit of in the early days, but once I settled on clove as my all day vape, and all of the store bought clove liquids were good, I felt it was much easier (but not cheaper, I'll concede) to just buy it ready made.

I never got into Mech Mods or making my own juice or winding my own coils.
I do use Billet Boxes, squonk mods too, boros, RTA,RDTA and RDA tanks as well, I use premade wire coils and I buy my juice.

Oh yeah, disposables. Always hated them, maybe because my friends who put me onto vaping started me with open systems.
I've never tried a disposable either. They have their place and purpose but, as anything other than a temporary aid in getting away from inhaling anything besides air, open systems are the only way to go.

A coworker of mine used the patch plus a 0-nic disposable to quit cigarettes. She stopped using both after about 3 months then didn't smoke for about 3 months. Back to cigarettes, then back to the patch plus 0-nic disposable, then back to cigarettes, and then again. People are funny.

I've seen a lot of cases of people quitting cigarettes by vaping, then later quitting vaping, then soon afterwards, like zombies, going to the corner store, buying cigarettes and lighting up once again. Such a shame.

...they scare the spit out of me.

I would be afraid of anything that uses two batteries too. There were all the stories of exploding mods in the news back in the day. The Kato I have uses only one. This is an old pic, 5 years ago or so, the mod in use with an Aspire glassomizer.

Anyway, I hesitate to say too much, because each journey is individual, but the threat of a nanny apocalypse is very real. Smoktek doesn't have a great reputation, but they had a plastic "bolt mod" that uses only one battery. I think I cleaned the market out because you can't find the plastic ones anymore. There were some attractive brushed metal ones too. I got a few of those too. Smok no longer has those either, but other sellers still have them in stock. Before hoarding both the plastic and the metal, I tried one of each. They work great with my Aspire glassomizers, and the single battery holds a charge so much longer than an eLeaf does. They vape waaaay better, stronger, easier, than the old Ego-T.

I never got into mechs, or cloud chucking. Or having to drip every puff or two for that matter. For that reason, I like my RDTAs and squonks. I don't care how old people call them. I'll admit to using disposables on occasion. Foger is my go to on that. They don't leak if they get laid over when I'm working on something.

And they were always hybrid mechs used improperly, far as I ever saw. Still, I hope the nanny state doesn't compel me to use them; I don't trust myself to not be stupid.

They're certainly not necessary unless someone likes high wattage. There's no need to be afraid, though, with regulated mods that have safety protections. I use dual battery mods for longevity between battery recharging, even though some are a bit clumsy in my little hands. Vaporesso's Gen 200 is a go-to -- Very small & light. But if someone isn't comfortable with two batteries, they lose nothing with single battery mods except cloud chucking, and single 21700 mods even allow for a little of that.

My one fear about batteries is that our Li ones will be taken from us by either regulation or advancing technology.

I keep hearing, in podcasts, there is a sodium ion battery on the horizon, better and less dangerous than li ion. I don't know much more than that yet.
