I've been considering getting away from generic AA & AAA batteries around the house. I've got some closet led lights that go through batteries way too fast. There's also my rc controller. Just wondering if you guys think it would be worth while to switch over to rechargeable. If so, any particular ones to go with? Should I get some protected ones?

There is a voltage difference. 3.7v (4.2 charged) Lithium batteries are not direct substitutes for 1.5 v alkalines. NiMH batteries have more capacity for their size based on your need. The best you could do is use Lithium iron (LiFe) batteries and use one for every 2 alkalines, with a dummy battery placeholder. But you would gain nothing in terms of battery life as they are low capacity.
