While there are sure to be many more unregistered drones enjoying the open sky, the Federal Aviation Administration announced today that over 181,000 have been registered so far.
This comes nearly two and a half weeks after the organization introduced a new registration program that went live on December 21, 2015. During the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas today, FAA Administrator Michael Huerta said the administration was "encouraged by the registration numbers we’re seeing so far." The challenge going forward is to make more people aware of the now-required process, as those that haven't register by February are subject to criminal penalties and imprisonment.
