I just got a mod with an 18650 battery in it. Can I put any mah size battery in it? It's the eleaf 60w tc. It charges the battery through micro usb.

As long as its the right type of battery for your mod, but remember the less mah the shorter time it will last between charges. Just make sure you get a flat top that is a good brand.

Short answer: NO!

Longer: you need to pay more attention to the amperage rating than the mah - and then I recommend sticking to legit manufacturers (LG, Samsung, Sony) over rewrappers who put fake specs on their batteries (every single other manufacturer besides Panasonic, who doesn't make anything suitable for your device). Try LG HE2 or HE4, or Samsung 25R - any of those should work nicely.

I absolutely did not think of amperage, but you're right that's a very good point. I guess I just didn't think of amps because I'm not worried about high amps. My battery is an efest 1600mah, I haven't found any info stating it is a rewrap (side note if you're going to claim it is, back it up with a link) but it is rated at 30 amps and hasn't made it past 20 in testing. Not a big deal for me, because I'm not going for low ohms. The lowest I may go is about a .7. But let me correct my original post. You CAN use any mah rating, PROVIDED it can handle the amps you want to pull off of it. So you need to know how many amps your battery can pump, and how many amps your coils will pull. Use an ohm calculator to find out how low in ohms you can go.

60W regulated mod with a single battery means you need a 20A battery. I'd recommend Samsung 25R or LG HE2 which are 2500mah, or if you want to try higher mAh at a little bit more cost go for the LG HG2 which is 3000mAh.

18650 = size (height 18mm x diameter 65mm)
mAh = capacity (milliamp hours, the higher this number - the longer your battery will keep a charge)

Not sure what you're looking for link-wise, it's pretty common knowledge Efest does not manufacture batteries.

Googling this was inconclusive, so I would not say its common knowledge.

If I could afford a decent brand name battery, I definitely would. But, I will say this about my efest. I don't chain vape or anything, and I'm running a 1.2ohm coil in my rda and a .7 coil in my tank. Today was my first full day of using my mech mod. I used my tank twice, both times while walking my dog, first when I woke up and then after dinner. The rest of the day I dripped. I probably vaped about 8 times give or take, and I just tested my battery before throwing it in the charger it read 3.85 on my dmm. All in all I'd say not bad.

Not bad at all - with coils that high battery life is great on a mech.

The funny thing is that legit cells are usually cheaper than re-wraps - LG and Samsungs can be had for $7-8, but Efests and MXJOs and the like are usually a buck or two more than the real deal.

EDIT: Also, with higher-resistance coils there's a lot less to worry about when it comes to taxing the battery and worrying about the fake amperage rating specs - so in your case it's no issue. Folks building stupid-sub-ohm are the ones that need to worry...

This efest was the cheapest one I could find that actually had a brand name in it, even if it is a re-wrap, $5 on eBay, free shipping. Some of the unbranded ones had higher mah, but I didn't trust it. So I got the efest. I was thinking I may purchase another, but right now I don't think I will need it.

What benefits will I see with the LG HG2? I have one coming. Will it cut down on my coils getting so warm? And feeling the battery in my device getting warm? @Mooch

It's normal for coils to get warm. Even my 1.2 ohm coil gets warm enough to feel it when I'm holding my mod. A different battery is not likely to have much effect on this. The battery will also get slightly warm sometimes. As long as its not too hot to touch, its OK. If it's too hot to touch, get it out of the mod immediately and let it cool down, and figure out what's going on before using it again. Battery getting really hot could be a short somewhere, or you're trying to fire when the voltage is too low, or you're exceeding the battery's amp rating. The lower the ohms, the higher the amps so make sure you're using a calculator when building to determine amps, and know your battery's amp rating as well.

My melo 2 0.15 ohm coil gets pretty warm.

It's going to, that's normal. That's a pretty low build for a mech mod, I hope your battery can handle it.

At 4.2v, that's 28 amps, at 3.7v its still almost 25 amps. And between 90-118 watts. That's a lot dude. Just saying.

Just realized you have a temp control. The chip in the mod controls the temperature of the coil. Unless you're exceeding your battery's amp rating, the battery has nothing to do with how hot the coil gets.

No, the battery won't affect how hot your atomizer gets. Your coil's resistance or power level, how often you draw, and how long each draw is affects that.

Some batteries run cooler than others but the same factors that affect atomizer heating also affect battery heating. To reduce the heat, reduce the current (lower power or higher ohm coil) or take shorter, less frequent draws. Longer rests between draws helps a lot as it allows everything to cool before you heat it all back up again,

I wish the would make temp control coils in 1.2, 1.3 ohm, because I am a mouth to lung. Meaning I take the vapor in my mouth then inhale. I can't build my own coils. I would so burn something up, lol!! I would go back to the 1. Ohm coils, but I like the temp control.

I just picked up 4 samsung 25r green's, with battery cases for 19 bucks & some change, delivered. About $4.90 each

Coils should get much more than "warm," they should get hot - really hot, like hot enough to convert your liquid into vapor. That's the whole point of a coil.

That said, I'm going to tap out with one last comment - I'll cheap out on clone mech mods, on clone RDAs, on clone tanks...the one thing I won't cheap out on is batteries and chargers, for the sake of my and my family's safety.
