1st Experience with an RDA Clone from Ebay

So, I saw this Veil Plume clone that seemed legit on Ebay and although it sounded pretty cheap at ten bucks decided to give it a shot. I have been very happy with the couple tanks I have (yes, I am a newbie) a Kanger Subtank Mini and a Ehpro Morph, I wanted to be able to build some coils on a dripper (without spending a lot) to see if I liked it and also for tasting some of the DIY blends I have been making before making tanks worth of e-liquid. The clone came as advertised but the 1st two coils I made shorted out promptly even though I was getting solid readings on my ohm meter. Backing up a second, the deck was so tightly inserted into the chimney at first I couldn't even figure out how to get them apart but I figured that maybe this is a good thing so it wouldn't leak. The real problems that I think are evident are that the center post spins when I am trying to torque down the screws and even worse is that the philips screws are too long for the holes and protrude too much, I believe that the bore is too small for the screws. The center post on the atty also always seems to need adjusting to make contact with the deck. I do have a question for you all; is there great danger involved in dealing with an unknown peak insulator around the positive terminals when attaching the device to my iStick 50w? Lastly, maybe someone could recommend a newbie friendly to build on RDA dripper that is reasonably priced for me to invest in instead of cloning around.

Do you know who makes the clone?

I picked up a Plume 1.5 clone made by Tobeco, definitely not top notch quality in the slightest, but it doesn't have any of those problems you've mentioned.

Try any of the Wotofo Drippers, they are cheap and authentic and well made

It is of unknown origin and marked "Aether Tech Plume Veil - Los Angeles, CA", but clearly a bootleg. I have seen the quality of the deck on photos of the real Plume Veil and this one clearly is not. I have since with some reservation and trepidation managed to get it to fire with a .5 ohm sleeper coil I built. The flavor is good but the concerning thing is the quality of the hardware. The chimney is really tight to the point of almost having to need pliers to pull it apart, as well as the other noted problems. Live & learn / caveat emptor.

@hvpvh you should try out the Mutation X V4, they go for about $30 and they are great. Very good airflow and 4 post so it will be easier for you to run your wire since you are just starting with builds

Mutation X v4 can be had for ~10 dollars or so for a good clone, if you look around. Honestly, short of the Velocity, nothing else I've tried gets close to the vapor production and flavor of the MutX. I keep coming back to it, it's a great RDA, not without it's share of issues, but damn it tastes good.

Brick and mortar for 20$!? Lucky dude. Most of my local shops would try to charge 35+ for cloned RDAs.

Actually it was closer to $22 with CA tax... but you're right, it wasn't a bad deal at all for a brick-and-mortar shop.

Bad clone = bad center pin = typical :)

I'm learning this. Zactly right!
Ive noticed most clones from Tobeco and other bigger name brand clone makers the quality is decent...others are either just a look-a-like and most end up nonfunctional within a week or 2....
I will never buy another Plume Veil Clone...I haven't found one yet that hasn't had a spinning center post...My screw actually broke and this is the third variant clone Ive tried. However, I LOVE the Derringer clone and the Twisted Messes/13 Heavens 1:1 and Mini Clones...These are the most used out of my Collection.I bought the 5 Caps Derringer kit from FT and then order 4 extra bases and sleeves...cheapest way to get 5 different Derringers ;)
I would advise you to try the Wotofo Sapor if you haven't yet...Its great in every aspect, including price for an Authentic and has features most $100+ RDA's are missing...

Thank you so much for the suggestion! I don't drip regularly although I do like the option when I am blending e-liquid. The taste by far is superior to a tank and it generally easier to re-wick for sampling. I have managed to salvage the plume clone but it has a lot of other issues with regard to the deck fit as well, regardless it produces a good vape when I have it all together. I'll definitely look into the Sapor as you have recommended!
