I've been enjoying the heck out of reading threads on here, so much info. I've spent many hours learning. Hucs breakdown of flavors makes me hungry sometimes. So I've been mixing up a lot of batches and ordering way to many flavors. As I go at it I start noticing different tips on bottles, some drops look very small. I always assumed 20 drops was 1 ml. but by the size of the drops I know somethings not right. Starting testing that. I have some concentrate bottle that take 37 drops for a mil! I got a syringe, that's gotta be exact but I notice that there is about a 1 mil blank space at the start before it starts measuring. I decided I'd treat myself and buy a scale but the problem is my location. I live on one of the 7,000 plus islands in the Philippines, on my island they don't have a scale. I wanted one that went down to 00.1. The thought of mixing on a scale was awesome. Today I found three people online in Manila that were selling scales, it's a wanna be ebay clone called OLX I bought one from each. It's a gamble because you gotta go to the bank and deposit money into their account and hope they send it. All three said they would ship it today, all three took the money and ran, won't even reply to my text. I struck out. So my next thought is beakers. As far as mixing goes, I learned a ton. Never trust the 20 drop is 1 ml. rule, it's not at all accurate. I am so envious of you people that have a scale with a tare, that looks awesome and so do some of these magnetic stirrers. Like a fan with glued on pieces of magnets, you put a magnet in the juice and watch is blend to perfection. I am not sure if it really helps but it looks like it's doing something. I wonder if putting a magnet in your juice is a good idea, seems like it might have a bad flavor.

The Magnets used for magnetic stirrers are usually coated with food grade silicone. I use a scale and just shake the bottles to mix.. works well enough, as much as I 'like' the idea of a magnetic stirrer .. doesn't really seem practical for small batches.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the ebay scales. Hopefully one of those vendors is just bad at answering email and will eventually send you your scale. Good luck!

Thanks foggz, I hope your right. a food grade coating over the magnet, awesome. I wonder if stirring like that helps or are daily shakes the old fashion way as good or better.

Depends on how crazy you want to get ... if you are making liters of liquid .. then shaking by hand I would think would get old real quick ;p
But for DIY .. I think your good with just shaking by hand.. altho there are times I think about building a homemade type 'paint shaker' style gadget. Something I could throw 10 flavor bottles in/on and it would make sure they are all mixed.. then would also work for one or two 30/60 ml size bottles of finished mix.. someday .. lol

For now... I just put the mix bottles into a cup of Hot tap water for like 3 mins to make the VG less thick .. then shake for a minute or two.. works great!
