With years to develop, hundreds of millions to spend, and an army of writers at their disposal, you’d think that the movie studios would be able to come up with superhero stories that aren’t the same.
But this past month, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War did just that, with both films – on the surface at least – telling tales of rising tensions in the cape community, building towards two almighty showdowns.
But dig deeper, and you realise that they are even more alike, the films at times having identical plot machinations, three of which we’ll explore here.
