The name "Champions" carries a lot of weight in the Marvel Universe. The original team debuted back in 1975, but thanks to a prolonged legal battle, it's been decades since Marvel has been able to publish a new Champions comic. That's finally changing this fall, as writer Mark Waid and artist Humberto Ramos are introducing an entirely new take on the Champions as part of the Marvel NOW relaunch. The new Champions are a group of teenage heroes who are determined to prove they don't need any adult supervision to battle evil and make the world a better place.

Marvel held one of their "Next Big Thing" press calls today to shed more light on what promises to be one of the flagship titles of Marvel NOW. Both Waid and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort were on hand to talk about the new series and what role the Champions have to play in a post-Civil War II Marvel Universe.
