Music sure does calm the savage beast of my disease, or at least it feels like it sometimes ;)
I've had the impression that gardening is the other way you keep the savage beast in line. Gardening is symbolic of that inner work we do for ourselves, preparing the ground, digging, adding nutrients, seeding, setting the starts, watering, weeding out the invaders, then resting a bit as we wait for the harvest to come true, appreciating each season, expecting abundance. It all takes place inside of us as we do the work.

Can't wait to see the coming pics of your 'maters & 'taters.

I do have custody of the garden here at my building, mainly because nobody else cares. I put in some landscape plants after the big stormageddon in Feb. 2021 took almost everything but the trees. Lately I've been putting down cat deterrents, garlic cloves, orange peels, egg shells, coffee grounds, and I had to grudgingly buy soil to put down for the cats in another area, for their toilet, but I am NOT going to be a cat butler and change it for them.

There's just a lot of ground to cover with my cat deterrent materials before I can think of planting anything else. Eight stray cats can do a lot of damage. They don't like thyme either, so next time I can get to Whole Foods, they usually have plant starts out at this time of year. I want to plant some instead of spending on the fresh bunch every time I get groceries.

I think the mountain laurel behind the building likes cat crap though. For the first time since my landlady planted it several years ago, it's in full purple bloom, looking kind of like upside down hyacinths, just beautiful.

Keeping the ivy off the trees keeps me outdoors. I'll have another round of trimming the brown fronds off the sago palms. I don't know what their problem is this time. Last time it was the big freeze.

Yes stray cats can be a nuisance and you would do better with plants opposed to fresh, well so called fresh from the store, trimmings. The oils will be stronger in growing plants and fend off the strays more.
The mountain laurel sounds beautiful, I don't think I have ever seen it.
Wish I could help you there but I know little about palms.
